Once the best store in Portland, now not so good. 3/26/2007

I have been shopping here for a couple years here and have always thought they were the best all around. They have always had slow service, but the tanks looked great and fish were healthy. That and the selection I thought were worth the extra cost. The last three times I have gone in I havent recognized any of the knowlegable staff I was used to. All three times it took almost an hour to make a purchase of one fish I had already decided on due to the unhelpfull nature of the staff, and more importantly, their tanks are looking horrible! Last time I was in there were sick looking or dead fish in a lot of the tanks, and nasty green and black hair algae on everthing in all the tanks! I would still shop there for their great plant and rock selection, but Im not buying any fish from them untill they hire some new people who will help customers and keep the tanks clean. Pros: Amazing selection of live plants Cons: Consistantly bad service, fish not as healthy as they used to be. more

Wondeful Experience!! Relaxing Environment!! 8/12/2006

The whole store is one big relaxation cove. The tanks are well maintained and the fish are all healthy and active. The selection is absolutely amazing!! In all of Portland NOTHING compares to the selection found at the Wet Spot. I have been to many different pet stores and this one tops them all. The staff was helpful, friendly, and willing to work with you. Pros: Superior Selection and Quality, Great Customer Service and Understanding Staff more

AMAZING SELECTION AND WONDEFUL SERVICE!! 8/9/2006

The Wet Spot has an amazing variety of freshwater fish that are kept in great condition. Many pet stores will sell fish that are sick and not in the best condition but at the Wet Spot they tell you right away if a tank is sick (which is VERY rare there) and they won't let you purchase it until they sure that the fish in that tank are all doing well. Pros: Great Service, Amazing Selection, Good Deals Cons: No Cash Back, Gets Busy on Weekends more

HORRIBLE customer service! 3/31/2006

The Wet Spot has a large selection of fish. However once you buy a fish from them, don't expect any help if you have a problem. The staff is more than willing to sell you a fish, but once you leave the store they couldn't care less. I have purchased fish from them twice. Both times my fish died within one week. When I returned to talk to them about it, all the manager would do is show me their return policy(24 hours). The only fish I have lost came from the Wet Spot. Pros: Large selection Cons: apathetic staff, questionable quality more

Great Selection, excellent staff, good prices! Andrea rocks! 3/23/2006

It is near my house so I have tried a number of times and I can't believe how hard it is to get someone to help you and when they finally do, it's like they are doing you a favor. Will NEVER return. Cons: Not service oriented, Rude staff, Expensive more

Take a number for help 11/11/2005

The Wet Spot Tropical Fish is the best place you can go for your everyday fish needs. They specialize in anything and everything, both Tropical and saltwater. In the past their famous fish, Bernie has made it to the news for his special tricks. The people that work here have the highest knowledge in this industry and they offer excellent customer service, when a person can get to them. This place is always so busy, it's difficult to get helped, but with lots of patience, somebody will get to you and help you out. Wet Spot is always very clean and have healthy fish, if the fish are sick, they usually move them to the back room and properly medicate them and refuse to sell sick fish to anybody. The owner eats and breathes fish and he also owns another place up the street specializing in internet and fax orders. He is a top breeder of all types of fish. You might want to wear light clothes when going in. They keep the heat turned up in order to heat all the aquariums instead of u more

Even if you don't have an aquarium, it's fun to come to the Wet Spot and just look at all the different kinds of fish they have. The prices are good, too. Highly recommended. PROS: selection, friendly & knowledgeable staff, free water testing CONS: more

Something fishy- in a good way! 7/20/2005

This store feature the best selection of fishes. They have some of the most beautiful exotic fishes here. Some of them I have never seen before. They categorize the fishes into region: Asian, N.American, Africa, etc... It's really cool knowing that these fishes come from all over the world. It's like you travel there and get these fishes yourself! They also sell handbooks and guidance for taking care of the fishes. The fish foods are really cheap, by the way. I can custumize and create a unique diet plan for the fish that ensure the get healthiest. This is the best place for a fish. more

Freshwater Fans Must See! 11/24/2002

This place is amazing! It's like the old Bell's, when it was off of Kellogg in St. John's, but better. They have a great selection of killies, catfishes, cichlids, plants, and odd and unusual fish. I am a dedicated customer of this place. On Saturdays or rainy weeknights you can expect this place packed to the gills with fish nuts buying fish and looking for advice. The owner, Steve Lundblad, has been on the Portland fish scene for twenty years and has been overseas multiple times to view and collect his own tropical fish. A great place for the real aquarist! Pros: Awesome selection Cons: Needs to be bigger! more
