What an amazing dining experience. They have great service and the people that work here make sure that the customers are comfortable. I love their appetizers. more

Eastern European food needs to be in my belly 8/22/2011

Seriously. This place is really good. And I mean really good at any time of the day, not just at 3AM. The deluxe meat plate is the way to go if you're not a vegetarian and sharing or if you're just really really hungry. more

Veselka is love:) 8/24/2010

Veselka is a clean, pleasant 24-hour family restaurant, and the service is usually decent. The attraction here are the prices which are very reasonable. They are especially known for their breakfast special, called The breakfast Special, which is served 24 hours a day. For about $5 get juice, coffee or tea, 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, two slices of sausage, a short stack of pancakes, and toast if you want it (you have to request it). Yes, the amount is correct. $5 The food is decent, and the rest of their menu is reasonably priced as well. Note that around breakfast time and weekends you probably will find a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. Parvin :) server at Veselka!!!!! more

Worth the Brunch-Time Wait (And Open 24-Hrs!) 6/22/2010

Veselka is my go-to for brunch in the Lower East Side. The prices are great, the portions are perfect for the day after a night out. They're usually pretty swamped on weekend days but there are some cute shops nearby that you can wander through while you're waiting and the food is well worth it. I love that they have an outdoor seating option too. I really enjoy their pancakes and crispy bacon (it's actually crispy!). Their burgers are also delicious. And the best part is: they're open 24 hours. You can also follow them on Twitter: @veselkaNYC Pros: Yummy brunch menu, pleasant service, fair prices Cons: Usually a wait more

Poland Meets NYC Diner 5/24/2010

You know when the plus-60 senior citizen crowd visits a place, it has to be good (or atleast, cheap). Veselka is that East Village staple that has managed to brand itself so well you keep going back for more. Traditional Polish foods like borscht and pierogies meet regular diner food and brunch items like pancakes and waffles. Though there is ample seating, demand is high and there is sometimes a wait. Oh, and did I forget to mention this place is awesome late-night, after the bar? Try the desserts, which are hard to resist if you glance into the clear window of the dessert refrigerator. What a sneaky sales tactic. I recommend the baked chocolate custard. YUM. Enough to share. There are some real ""Far Eastern European"" dishes as I call them, for the more adventurous types. Or maybe they are just regular food and I am simple... Pros: Polish specialty foods, location more

Good breakfast deal 2/20/2010

Needed a quick breakfast/brunch before I hopped back on my plane to LA. Veselka was a great choice. I had the breakfast sandwich, which unknowingly came with a cup or orange juice and coffee...what a great deal! The sandwich was good, like a sausage mcmuffin with egg, but better. I'd definitely stop in here when I need a quick breakfast before starting my day. more

East Village Landmark, Best Pancake 1/18/2010

Love their pancakes, kielbasa and Ukrainian dumplings.During brunch time, they have great specials but make sure you get there early to avoid the crowd. Pancake is a must-have as well as their sausages. Pros: Opens 24/7, best pancakes Cons: Long wait during brunch more

Eastern European Home Cooking 11/30/2009

This is where I go when I am craving my Polish grandmas cooking. The borscht, kielbasa and pirogi are delicious. Sometimes the service can be a little spotty but its not really problematic and usually a result of miscommunication through minor language barriers. Yes, it can be seen as basic food but maybe that is just the style of cuisine. Eating here always leaves my friends and myself with full bellies and smiles all round. Smacznego! Pros: Great food, atmosphere Cons: Service can be spotty more

basic. Nothing special 10/8/2009

The food here is basically only good if you are on a budget. Its plain simple and anyone could make a simple meal like theirs. Pros: Cheap more

A Favorite! 7/9/2009

As far as Eastern European diners go, Veselka is great for a casual breakfast with friends or family. With a broad range of delicious breakfast options, Veselka has everything from Challah French Toast, Mediterranean Feta & Tomato Omelettes and Cheese Blintzes With Raspberry Sauce! Can you say yum? Pros: Causal, reasonably priced, great breakfast! more

Horrible Customer Service 2/26/2009

I live two blocks away from Veselka and love the buckwheat pancakes. It's simple food and the place has great history in NYC but the service is terrible.\r I realize this place is busy but there's a way to be treated as a person not just number. I feel rushed every time I order to go food and the guy at the cash register could care less whether or not you come back or not. Three out of four times they messed up my order specifically leaving the bananas out of my pancakes or forgetting my eggs, etc. Last Saturday really was the final straw for me as when I went to pay I asked for a description of the stuffed cabbage and he looked at me like I had three heads saying, 'Well it's cabbage stuffed.' Not wanting to make a big deal I just smiled and nodded and watched after he rang me up with his dirty hands finger every muffin for a customer to eat/ buy. I most likely will not be returning until I get over this and I start craving the meatballs again. more

Awesome Russian Food 1/6/2009

I have been wanting to eat Russian food for a long time and was finally able to work it into a NYC vacation. I chose this restaurant based on the the number of people that had reviewed it so highly. However, the ratings still do not give it justice. The food was incredibly good and the service was excellent.\r \r We got there around 6:30pm and it was jam packed with people. However, we were told that it would only be a 10-15min wait and it ended up being about 5 minutes. Our server explained anything that we didn't understand and made suggestions that complimented our order.\r \r Definitely make sure you get a bowl of borscht if you go! more

Pretty good Ukrainian restaurant 12/18/2008

I am confused by the few negative reviews. Perhaps they had one bad experience and gave up on the place, which is too bad. Having been born in Ukraine I judge Ukrainian food by the way I know it should taste--as if I'm eating it at home, and Veselka delivers on that. The borsh isn't the best, but I chalk that up to being made differently than the way I like it--there are over 100 varieties of borsch and maybe theirs isn't my favorite. The bigos is by far my favorite meal but everything else that I've had I've enjoyed quite a bit. Maybe if there were 500 other Ukrainian restaurants in the city, I would judge Veselka more critically, but there aren't, and from what I have available to me Veselka is my favorite. Pros: Great food, fair prices, especially in manhattan Cons: service isn't spectacular (but not bad) more
