Much like Figlios, I think the updown diner has become one of those places that no one really raves about, and yet everyone will find themselves in at some point. It's clunky, has horrible decore, mediocre food (although with huge portions) outrageous prices, and yet... it's open all night on weekends, and when your really need that late night (or late afternoon) eggs benedict, well, there you are. Thankfully, you can split an order of just about anything (with a two dollar service charge, mind you) and still end up with two very full people. Even so, it can add up to a pricey breakfast. However, despite all that you will find yourself sitting at one of it's tables some day, some time, and really, really dang enjoying that disgusting hollandaise sauce. You can also comfort yourself by looking at your fellow diners and whispering to you companions ""do you SEE that guy over there? WHAT is she wearing? Can you BELIEVE those shoes? That HAIR?"" This will help quell the pangs of guilt after having spent 30 bucks on a single plate breakfast that you know contains your fat intake for the month.
Pros: open all night, great for people watching
Cons: the cost, it can get too busy, mediocre food
