I have been going to this place for 5 years. The staff has changed, and the service is not the same. There are no more fun parties as the reviews states because Victoria is gone ...

most welcoming neighborhood bar 9/18/2006

Fantastic place! It's been there since Prohibition, in the same family the whole time. Real neighborhood feel. The ambiance is amazing with everything original from 1940s. It's been on an upward trend since Devon came on who is one of the best bartenders and who ALWAYS brings her ""A"" game. The new manager, Sebastian, has turned things so positively, it's made this my favorite in the city. He is a true ""paisan"" who exudes sincerity, honesty, brotherly friendliness and integrity, AND he makes outrageous martinis. There's alot to be said for the current staff who all have incredible loyalty to the Nicco family and tradition. more

Bar tenders are funny and if you wait for a minute there is usally a place for two to sit at the bar. The only down side I have found is that there are gross men that are always hitting on everyone... but I guess this is to be expected in SF. more

Avoid, Boring, Messy 7/7/2006

Sorry, I used to really like this place. There is a new ""manager"" that is very pompous and arroggant. Pros: quiet bar, you can get a seat. Cons: not fun, boring drink, just a Jack Daniels bar. more

Only at Happy Hours 1/9/2006

I have been going to this bar for a few years after work with my co-workers. Only at Happy Hours 4-7 is this bar cool. Victoria runs the bar like it's her own place. Food, snacks, killer drinks, and she makes people smile. Her music selection is hot, and her spirit bright. Thanks Victoria for your years of fun. Our office is moving and we are going to miss you ! Our recommendation to anyone who want go to this bar is A + ! Don't stay after 7 however, you will not get the same service. BTW...the reason why this bars rates 9.3 is because we voted for you Victoria !! more

Easily my favorite... 9/7/2005

Tony Nik's is easily my very favorite bar in the City. I will say it's far better on a quiet weeknight when the delightfully entertaining neighborhood regulars take residence on the barstools, but weekends are very lively. Be warned: weekend nights occassionally can be amatuer nights, including the possibility if you're a woman that you could be relentlessly hit on. But nonetheless, it's a great scene: hip without being trendy. The bartenders (Danny, Victoria, Pat, Luke, Pete and Sebastian) are all great and treat their customers like friends. Tip them well. more

...the space isn't that big so don't come with large groups. The line for the restrooms can be long too. It's a good spot to stop off at before heading to another bar. Pros: atmosphere, crowded Cons: small venue, parking difficult more

Fantastic cocktails, excellent service. Best bar in the city. Not for those who like to boogie down at post-teen clubs and lounges (like Velveeta Lounge on Broadway). Give it a shot. Have a shot. more

Where the North Beach locals go 1/28/2003

North Beach has several wonderful personalities to suit your mood. When you're looking to esape the hard-drinking, party-party atmosphere of the Broadway strip, Nik's is where to go for a mellow time out. The crowd is usually friendly, the atmosphere understated, and the drinks reasonably priced. more

Always meet at Tony Nik's 1/6/2003

I don't know what a ""FAKE BLUE COLLAR CROWD"" is, I don't think it exists, however, this little bar is an original from 1933. We come from the North Bay to drink here, where the bartenders are very friendly, the happy hour $2.00 draft is great deal and the bar snacks are totally original. This bar is always different with the changes of music and the different crowds. We have never felt uncomfortable there. If folks don't like blue collare crowds, then jum of the planet because you are everywhere. more

One of the best bars in SF 12/10/2002

Truly a San Francisco gem - I cross town to have a drink at this joint. Excellent mixologists bring you near perfect drinks - they even have fresh chantilly cream in the bar, for goodness sakes. Excellent after work, before going out, before dinner, after dinner, whenever. Renovated a few years back, this jewel will be an SF landmark for ever. Beautiful Bar 7/8/2002

No, this place may not be a destination place if you were not intending to go to North Beach, but it is definately THE place to party for a few hours ! The day turned into night rather smoothly as the beauty behind the bar got us so pleasantly intoxicated that we stay until 9pm, when we decided it WAS TIME !! Tony Nik's is a 1933 original complete with stories, and colorful history that the owner and manager keep well under thier dice cups. Turn the cups over and you find a classy fun filled gin joint, or Negroni joint.....Hmmmmmm.anyway, thanks for the hangover !! Pros: , just go outside !! Cons: small when crowded more
