Perhaps I found it so amazing because I generally consider buffet restaurants to be of poor quality, but I really thought this place was amazing. So much variety and so many cultu...

We went to Todai Monday for my birthday. The meal started out with an ICE COLD glass of Cabernet. I had to send that back. The buffet looked like things on it had been out since l...

great food, terrible service 7/9/2008

I went there for my graduation dinner with my family. I called and reserved a table for 7+. I got there early and the second I walked in, it was like walking into a sauna! It was unbelieveably HOT! So I asked the hostess if there was any air conditioning and she assured me that there was and that it was probably just from the heat outside. I again, mentioned something to the guy who was seating us, and he said that the air was working just fine. Then last but not least our waiter, after probbing him, said that the air was off, and offered me a free glass of wine due to the heat. Not once, but TWICE, did the staff LIE directly to my face! Pros: Great Sushi Cons: Horrible waitstaff, no Airconditioning more

The best became the worst by Customer service~!! 7/7/2008

Todai used to be the one of the enjoyable places for sushi in town. more

Great Customer Service 7/7/2008

I have been coming to Todai for a few years now. It's always a good place for a nice dinner with friends and they have accomodated us with anywhere from 3 - 20 guests at a time. Pros: good service, food selection, plum wine Cons: a little pricey, some food sits out too long more

Stomach turning sushi 5/31/2008

The sushi is not fresh. It sits out for a long time at an inappropriate temperature and gets crunchy. Even the salads weren't healthy, soaked in oil. The sushi was crunchy and the fried food was mushy. Gross. Pros: ramen soup Cons: old, disgusting sushi more

Satisfied! 5/24/2008

I've been dining at this location since day one when they opened. I must admit, our family stop coming for some time because of a couple bad experiences in the past. One of our friends recommended us to come back because they added a new churrascaria section to their buffet. We checked it out on a Thursday. It was semi crowded, with a totally different scene. Table cloths, dim lights, servers running around with skewers. The sushi was made fresh and delivered to the table. It was an amazing experience! The sushi is much fresher than before. I must agree with the reviewer below about the birthday promotion. I over heard a couple complaining about the birthday ordeal and thought to myself ""If I were to come to my favorite burger joint and asked for a free burger on my birthday, wouldn't they laugh at me?"" So why should they complain about not getting free sushi, seafood, and all you can eat steaks? Anyway, we had a wonderful time and will be coming back soon with friends. Pros: All you can eat! Cons: Only one stomach! more

Awesome selection. Great sushi, seafood and meat at unbelievable price. 5/18/2008

I went for the first time after they have upgraded with the new concept. It was s birthday dinner. It was quiet a surprise to see what they've done with the restaurant. It looked much more refined and formal than the last time I was here. The selection was incredible. Along with the old time staples such as snow crab, oyster and my favorite dim sums. There was larger selection of hot food and the salad bar has improved with more selection of fancy item. Sushi was much fresher, since they now make it to order. According to our server, during the slow hours, sushi is made to order to maintain freshness. Service was spectacular. Eveyone was wearing walkie talkies and when alerted someone was at our table in no time. The highlight of the upgrade was brazilian meats. The selection of meat was amazing. They hadarger selection than other brazilian bbq places in town, and although I could not taste them all because I was too full, The meat taste and especially the chimichurri sauce for the steak was superb. more

Fresh sushi and steaks. 4/21/2008

We came back after trying it for the first time last month. Still the best value out there in terms of fresh, all you can eat sushi. And lets not forget the steaks! Service was prompt as usual. Only complaint I have is the restaurant being a little warm. more

What a great deal 4/19/2008

I am only giving them 4 stars because they no longer have the birthday promotion. We decided to give them a visit because they had a great promotion where you can eat free on your birthday. I mean, who doesn't like a free meal? But the host told us that the program was valid only for lunch. We decided to stay anyway since we did drive about two hours to get there. When we sat down, the host explained a new concept to the restaurant. We were a somewhat confused but our server was kind enough to re explain the process and convinced us to order some wine since they were serving churrascaria meats. We started with some salad and and then with the sushi. The selection and freshness was unbelievable! There were times when a few items were missing, but was at least refilled the next time around. The hot foods were limited, but had a couple of good dishes like the grilled seabass that had so natural of a taste with the perfect amount of seasoning. Its hard to find a cooked fish nowadays thats not overwhelmed with seasoning. Something I think we can all agree on. The best part of the night were meats with so many different types of coming to our table. I have never been to any churrascaria that served filet mignon without the bacon at an all you can eat concept in mind. Our server did a wonderful job pairing the wine for us. Now we have new found interest in malbecs. I highly recommend this restaurant to those daring enough to try a hybrid concept. Todai you are to die for. more

Hmmm...Interesting 4/16/2008

Tablecloths, china ware, and dim lights. We immediately received the impression that this was no longer the Todai we dined at a year ago. In fact, much better. In addition to our sushi and seafood favorites, they now have different cuts of steak (churrascaria i think they call it) served table side. Most of the sushi were ordered a la carte and came out pretty fresh, especially the escolar. The Hawaiian poke was my favorite. The rolls were interesting, but could use a little work. I think all sushi restaurants should have the Tiger Eye roll! My husband tried most of the steaks and loved every bit of it. We were even offered rabbit, which I was a little iffy to try, but turned out good. The service was warm and friendly. Our server was attentive and stopped by often to entertain our daughter while we relaxed and enjoyed our food. We WILL be visiting again. Great Job! Pros: GREAT SUSHI AND STEAKS Cons: A LITTLE OVERWHELMING more

The Mother of all Buffets 4/15/2008

I went for a visit the other day since I heard there were some changes to Todai. So a few of us dropped on by and find Todai has up graded their buffet line up. To our joy their added Churrasco at first we were like; I thought this was a sushi restaurant but since we were meat lovers it didn?t really bother us but instead it made us even more interested in coming back. The waiter was very friendly and very knowledgeable as to what they had changed and explain to us about it. Also, the wine list was a great addition to the setup. Pros: food and service was great Cons: a little dark more

it's not the same 4/12/2008

I gave it an extra star...and must admit it may stem from nostalgia. Pros: big fun selection Cons: selection is not superb more

Terrible buffet food, horrible customer service, and ridiculously overpriced!!! 4/9/2008

What a huge disappointment!!! My husband came back from Afganistan with a prior request that I take him to an all you can eat seafood/sushi buffet. This place came highly recommended by family and friends, and unfortunately for us, it didn't live up to the hype. Pros: The meat were OK. Ambience was nice. Cons: Cold, left over food. Service was horrible. Overly priced. more

Horrible service, and expensive 3/3/2008

I went to Todai with a friend, and was not impressed. It definitely does not live up to the hype. Pros: Near the theater, variety of food Cons: Bad service, expensive more

Poor service 2/29/2008

They are trying to revamp the restaurant. It is a buffet but they are trying to provide service, which only works in theory.. We ordered shrimp 4 times and had to wait over a half hour before we got anything. This was for three broiled shrimp. It was annoying at first and then it became mildly entertaining. How long would we have to wait and how many times would we have to ask? In the end they brought out a platter for us to pick off of, which was nice even if it was too little too late. We weren't the only ones having problems. I bumped into a guy in the bathroom who was loading up on paper towels because he got tired of asking for napkins. more

First time--likely the last 2/16/2008

We went there tonight for my birthday (no, not for any birthday special) and were glad to see that there were plenty of open tables, figuring we'd get a quick seat since we hadn't made reservations (but apparently neither had anyone else). Not so. No one even acknowledge us at first. Once we finallly sat, the hostess awkwardly explained the restaurant. We then went to the buffett, which was sparsely stocked in the sushi/seafood/rolls section, which was the reason we had gone. Sitting back down, we had to ask for spoons, and then another saki glass, butter, etc, etc that once our coffee came, we didn't even feel like asking for sugar, which was not on the table. While we were eating, one table left, then another, and then about ten, until a whole section was empty and full of dirty tables. No one cleared them for the 20 or so people waiting to be seated. The table next to us was empty and dirty the entire time we were there. No one ever cleared our plates, either. We had to start stacking them on the dirty table next to us, which the other customers were doing as well. Nobody filled our water...etc. I'm not sure if it was a bad night or what, but it is NOT the kind of place I'd recommend or go to again. The food itself was good--not fantastic--but good. I was, to say the least, disappointed. more

Great Selection & variety for the Foodie in you! 10/20/2007

Visited on Father's Day and was floored by the size of the place and intense selection of sushi and other dishes. The grill preparations were delicious, including the mongolian bbq, the sushi was fresh, the salads were crispy and tasty. The snowcrab legs were over cooked and watery, but the dungenes was far better along with the sea bass. The desserts were fun and flavorful in bite size portions too. The green tea ice cream was fabulous I wish I could have fit more into my stomach at that point. The ready to make crepes were also a nice touch. Our servers were friendly and prompt with taking away our used plates and refilling our drinks. A place like this will make you want to starve days before in order to enjoy it all. This is a pricey buffet, but the selection and variety is reflected in what it offers. Pros: Variety, large groups, family Cons: expensive more

No more birthdays and terrible sushi that is way overpriced. 10/19/2007

The wife took me here to celebrate my birthday and was expecting to enjoy myself. We ask about the birthday special and the waiter says it's no longer available:( So I just say forget it. Pros: A whole lot of food Cons: You need a whole lot of money and no more birthday promotions. more

How interesting the reviews! 7/28/2007

How interesting it is that the only reviews with complain are the ones from those who go to Todai for free food for birthday or discount related issues. In fact this last guy have posted in several other review sites the same thing! I came across his reviews, while trying to post my experience at Todai. Pros: Seafood variety, sushi quality, parking Cons: Too many people on weekends. more

Horrible food and horrible service. Don't go! Birthday Scam! 5/3/2007

I wish I had read the previous reviews on this site before my husband I went today. We first ate at Todai in Las Vegas (it was good there) and signed up for their list serve. My husband got an email (one of about 40 as they come on an almost weekly basis) to come eat on his birthday for free as long as there was another paying customer with him. We went today and the food was HORRIBLE. The sushi (what little was left out) was lukewarm and old. The hot dishes were cold and the bite sized desserts were all bland. We waited for ever for our server to come get our check. Finally, my husband went to the counter and inquired about the birthday special. The server there was rude and said, ""oh, you have to have 2 additional people."" Then, we waited 15 more minutes for our server to come back and take our check. He never came. Finally, we went to check out at the front and told the guy there why we hadn't enjoyed our experience (the birthday scam). He asked who sent the email (duh), when did we get it, and a host of other rude questions. Finally, he pulled out an email that was heavily highlighted and underlined, ""is this the email?"". Clearly, not the first time anyone has complained however, the curt 20 questions about the email and email origins maybe scared some people... He wanted us to read the ""call locations for details"" fine print at the bottom of the email. He also wanted us to know that this was the last year for the birthday promotion...are you kidding me??? We explained that it's misleading and tried to talk to him about the poor service we received. He seriously ignored us and ran our check. We will NEVER EVER eat there again and suggest you don't either. Miyako and Little Miyako are both great deals with pretty good sushi. Pros: None at all. Cons: They are awfully proud of their BAD sushi 15.00 to 25.00 for horrible food and service. more

Great selection 10/29/2006

I like this place alot because of the great selection they have for sushi. The only problem is the price... about $20.00 for a buffett... too much if you ask me. Cons: Too expensive for the food more
