Good Food - Bad Service 8/3/2010

The food was good, not great, but if you have time. Don't come here if you plan on having good service. If our food had not eventually come out, we were about to walk out. One waiter for the whole room and one bus boy. Our dinner too way too long. Sorry Teala's, I think we will just go to Tila's down the street. The food is about the same and the service is excellent. more

Tealas is always amazing 1/18/2010

I can only think of good things to say about Teala's. I have visited many mexican restaurants, as have most people who live in Houston, and can honestly say this restaurant is a cut above. One of my favorite things to do is to have margaritas with my boyfriend or friends on the open patio while we wait for the sizzling fajitas to arrive at our table. Especially after a long day! I like to mix it up on the menu but I have a friend who will ONLY get the shrimp diablo now after having it once. I really love the enchiladas and flautas and CHIPS- I can never get enough of their chips and salsa- so so good! I love the waitstaff too, they do not pressure you but will be around for your every need. Enjoy! Pros: best margaritas and mexican food, great atmosphere Cons: none come to mind more

Teala's--the only Mexican restaurant in Houston I'll go to! 8/26/2009

I've been a regular at Teala's for the past few years and can't stop raving about the food, people, and drinks. The margaritas are strong (just the way I like them), the food never ceases to impress, and I've gotten to know the waitstaff personally--they're all so friendly! Whenever I have a large party, I make sure to go to Teala's. They've even closed out the patio for me before! For such a colorful, vibrant, busy place, they're also extremely accomodating. I've never run into any problems at Teala's! Pros: Friendly waiters, delicious food, margaritas to die for more

Cinco de badservice? 5/5/2009

I was greeted and sat inmidiately as i walked in, a nice surprice for being cinco de Mayo. I waited and exchanged looks of hunger with my friend as we got stuffed with fried tortillas. I knew something was off when we still had not received a menu after thirty minutes. I wondered if my waiter had to fly really quict to Yucatan or Thailand to bring a ""special-exotic"" menu. \r When i confronted him with my disapointement and frustration he was quick to s lap me back with a reply : ""well...it is cinco de Mayo!"". As i looked at the back tables half empty half full i replied that it was not my foult they were understaffed. As a bolting light and aristocratic air he left me talking in mid air. I was shocked! I would spect that from a hole in the wall struggling restaurant but not from this pretencious mexican restaurant. I complained to the manager and he was nicely supportive. The food was exellent, much better than your usual hustonian mexican restaurant.\r I hope next time that waiter gets the chiles out of his pan ties! Pros: Aweosome cochinita pibil Cons: Understaffed with a bitter unt attitude more

Good food. 5/4/2009

Nothing ticks me off quite as much as when a restaurant forces me to valet my car 3 feet away from their front door in their own half-empty parking lot. But I've been to Teala's during off hours when they didn't require this. The food has been great each visit. One time I must have been sitting by the bathroom, because the place smelled like raw sewage....which really turned me off to the place. Margarita's were always good. Service was typically average. The restaurant is nice, and has a patio which is nice during good weather (although it's on a busy street). However, Houston has too many great Mexican food places that are much cheaper (drive over to the second ward or up north main), not to mention the valet parking thing, so Teala's is probably out of my budget for the future. Pros: Good food. Cons: Parking. Not real cheap. more

You need to try this! 3/6/2009

One of my favorite things to do is come to Teala's after a long day at work, sit on the patio and enjoy a margarita! It has become a tradition with my friends over the last few years. Truly, the patio and even the inside of the restaurant are quite romantic, and in addition, the food is incredible!!! I have many favorites such as chicken alamades or the chilean sea bass. THE most amazing thing, however, is that this restaurant is always consistent. I never wonder if the food will be good- it always IS, or if the service will be good- it always is as well. The waitstaff is perfect. I am so excited because my husband and I are going tonight before we go to the movies. You should go too- you're missing out! Pros: the food, the service, and value Cons: none! more

Remarkable 3/6/2009

I don't write many reviews but I just have to for this one. It really is different from your run-of-the-mill mexican restaurants you can find all over Houston. The food is soooo delicious and seems healthy somehow at the same time! I have not had a meal here I did not like, and the thought of it actually makes my mouth water! Fajitas are superb, as well as the chips and salsa which I can never get enough of. Also, try the black bean dip, nachos and guacamole, and all the different kinds of ""ritas"" are wonderful. All this plus a nice open patio outside to enjoy on a nice day brings me back over and over. All I can say is that this place is a cut above! Pros: pretty much everything Cons: can't think of one more

Don't know what all the hype is 1/23/2009

The margaritas are good, but that is about as far as it goes. The service was ok to good, but the food was not good at all, and the food and margaritas were over priced. I read that this place was supposed to be a good place for drinks and food, but the last few people I talked to about this, had the same experiance i did, not good. Better places are so close, that I will not go back there! Pros: Decent marg's Cons: Food, service, and price more

Great place for groups and parties!!! 1/9/2009

I am SO happy I discovered Teala's because when I brought a large group here to celebrate a birthday last weekend, they did not let me down in the slightest. I must say, I was kind of nervous because I was giving the party so to speak and other restaurants have let me down in the past but I am SO relieved and happy to report we all had a blast! Our group was large, but was accomodated perfectly. The atmosphere was sophisticated and relaxed, our waiter was perfect (and patient with those who were unfamiliar with the menu), the drinks were superb, the food hot and delicious and everyone was happy and satisfied when it was all over. That it what you want when the choice of restaurant is up to you for a big occassion. You know a restaurant can really make it or break it when it comes to a party and I must admit I was impressed with the smoothness and efficiency with which our table was handled. Everything appeared almost magically (as it should when you are out to eat) as we all visited and enjoyed each other's company over great food and drink. If you are considering a birthday or graduation party this a wonderful place to celebrate it! Pros: delicious food and drink, good for groups more

My favorite place to eat! 1/9/2009

I grew up eating out at various Mexican restaurants and for me, there is now only one choice and it is Tealas. Try it once and you will agree. It has been a special place to my husband and me for years. Now we have a baby and we take her with us. No surprise-she loves going too! She likes to look around at everything- especially the chandelier- and the staff is very good to her too. Anytime we have company from out of town we bring them here and even a year later they remember what they had to eat and want to order it again! We live in Cypress now but love it so much we still drive into town for this restaurant.. I would recommend anything on the menu as every option we've ever had is superb- fajitas, nachos, the black bean dip, guacamole, margaritas (especially mangoritas and guavaritas- WOW!), just to name a few. Lately I've been ordering spinach enchiladas and my husband tried the puerco chops last time and absolutely loved the meal! Teala's is just so different from any other place. There are just so many nice, subtle touches to the food, drink, even the service. It truly creates a unique dining experience. The waitstaff is very kind and attentive and the atmosphere is wonderfully inviting. You're never left wondering where the waiter went but they are very careful to give you plenty of time and let you relax. You can entertain yourself just by looking around at the artistic style in decorating. It is great for a date, a large group gathering, or simply just when you are hungry for great mexican food! I guarantee you will leave every time feeling satisfied and impressed. Pros: amazing food and kind waitstaff more

A great place for lunch and dinner 1/5/2009

I come here almost once a week for lunch or dinner, and love the place. The head waiter knows me now and talks when I come in, and the rest of the staff is nice. They do tend to take a while when its busy though. Their salsa is really good, and their queso is good too. I didn't really like the queso flameado, but that is just a matter of taste, others have liked it. I love their combo plate at lunch and their camarones diablos for dinner. The quail is good, but a little greasy here. Also, I've never liked any of their pork dishes. It has a cool little patio that is fun to sit and drink on when the Houston weather allows. I don't like how the lot is valet only, so I park around the corner. Pros: Food, drinks, staff is nice Cons: Valet Only Parking, Sometimes a little slow waitstaff more

Fabulous!!! 10/29/2008

I love this place! Went to dinner last night there for a small birthday celebration! Great service, great food, and great Mango-ritas!! I love the Chicken Alamades!!! Pros: Food, Value, Atmosphere, Service Cons: none really, I don't care for valet parking more

Do not plan a special celebration here 6/20/2008

There are many Mexican food restaurants in Houston and we chose yours to celebrate our son's H.S. graduation on June 1, 2008. We planned and reserved this with you two months in advance and our evening on the patio was as if 25 of us just walked in off of the street. There was no table set or reserved when we arrived at the designated time (8:00 pm). We had to wait about 20 minutes after 8 to even sit down. We had no time to prepare our table for our son. We were moved twice. We had insufficient space even though we were assured that there would be plenty of room for our 25 guests. Several of us were served dinner after most people had already finished eating and it was cold and dried out (not your typical Teala's dinner). Although our waiter and bar tender were trying their best, clearly no one else cared enough to make this the special event we intended. Our total bill, including drinks, was over $600 and I feel extremely disappointed in your management failure. I have also sent a letter to the management and there was no response. This is an indication that the management is insensitive to the service, especially for people celebrating once in a lifetime special occasions. more

A big YES to Tealas! 5/13/2008

If you've lived in Houston for even a short while, you probably have come to realize you have choices when it comes to mexican fare. For me, there is now only one choice and it is Tealas. Pros: out-of-this-world food, drink, and service Cons: no complaints! more

Best margaritas in Houston 3/21/2008

I've been going to Teala's for years and trying to branch out and find other good margaritas and there are none. They offer so many fruit flavors too! The staff is great! The service is excellent and the bean dip and salsa are the best also. Pros: Margaritas; bean dip, salsa and chips Cons: parking more

Almost as good as expected 1/20/2008

We did lunch at Teala's. We showed up promptly at noon and the restaurant filled quickly. Overall it was good food but one of our dishes was much better than the other so I would ask for recommendations before you order. We had the top shelf margarita - which was excellent... but don't drink these and expect to be able to drive. more

Now that is Mexican Food! 9/23/2007

Sheer Heaven! The food was out of this world. The Ritas were to die for! Brought my parents from out of town and they are still talking about this to their friends!! Pros: The Food, Ritas, and Value Cons: The parking can be hairy at times! more

Best damn ritas!!! 8/24/2007

This place has been a favorite of my partner and I for over a year now. The food is great, the people, are great, and the ritas are to die for. Don't miss this place it is one of Houston's greatest hidden treasures. Pros: Ritas, Staff, and Atmosphere Cons: Hot Houston Summers more

Cool place to go with friends 8/19/2007

I have eaten at Teala's twice since I moved Houston and it was incredible. The black bean dip is really nice to go with tortilla chips because you can't really get that at any other restaurant. The margaritas are perfect, with not too much alcohol in it but just the right amount. The service was very prompt, refilling drinks and chip bowls quickly. I definitaley recommend it! Pros: great food, service and margaritas Cons: parking valet is your only option more

Nice little getaway 7/25/2007

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go that was relaxed and where we could sit outside. We sat in the outdoor patio and both had the mango ritas (frozen) since it was recommended and they were great! One of the best places I've had a rita b/c you know how hard it can be to find the perfect one! We also had two entrees which were just the right size. Great place to go for conversation and drinks! I'm ready to go back again this weekend.\r Pros: margaritas, nice neighborhood restaurant more
