Best

We had an AMAZING evening there.

Worst

I am absolutely disgusted by BUTTERFLYLUV2 claiming to reply to his/her own post which is NOT the person who posted the review. Pros: Decent Food Cons: Be prepared to wait...

put your foot down 12/11/2003

There are an interesting mix of loves and hates in the reviews. I've had good and bad experiences here. One I learned to 'just say no' to the overbearing waiter/owner I've had much better experiences. Tapa eating is nice b/c you don't have to order large amounts. Think of it like gambling when you order... sometime syou win and sometimes you lose. But generally most of the food is great. There are some definite losers unfortunately. Pros: unique (for Cary), Sangria, tasty Cons: waitstaff, service, overpriced more

great food, nice service 7/30/2003

I love tapas, and after reading the reviews of Tasca Brava, I thought I would give it a try. I loved it! The restaurant, located in a little strip mall, was easy to walk into and was immediately comfortable, (unlike some snooty Cary digs!) The food was wonderful and reasonably priced - I thought the goat cheese was especially good, as were the large shrimp. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu! The waitress was very sweet and helpful, even though they were extremely busy and understaffed. Overall, it was a great experience that I am looking forward to repeating. Pros: great food, well timed service Cons: location, not for kids more

El mejor - Not your papa's tapas 7/10/2003

If you want to experience the true passion of Spain through food, go to Tasca Brava. What can be better than sharing unique food & wine with friends in someone's home? This is the feeling we have experienced on each visit. My wife and I have eaten here on at least 8 occasions, many times with groups, and I have been amazed with every dish. Our favorites were the gazpacho, paella, ribeye (unique marinade), empanadas, sampler (spanish anit-pasta). I have traveled and lived all over the world -- this is the real deal. Pros: Food, Owners conviction, $$ value Cons: , little hard to find more

Amazing Tapas 7/7/2003

""Definitely something to be experienced. Excellent Spanish food including some of the best tapas I've ever eaten. Additionally the wine list is incredible."" Pros: Tapas, Wine, Desserts Cons: Small more

Evening of Romance 7/4/2003

""We had the pleasure of dinning at Tasca Brava for our anniversary. We both ordered paella and a bottle of Spanish wine. Both were incredible! For dessert we had Flan de Caramelo and Cafe con Leche. Fantastic! Service was very warm and friendly. Tasca Brava we will come again and again."" Pros: Incredible, Fanatastic, Warm service more

""Push-Up-The-Bill Game... 6/27/2003

... is well stated in the previous postings. While the meal was exotic and original, the ambience was only luke; these taken together were not nearly enough to offset the dual irritants in the form of the (1) pushy owner/waiter & (2) the undersized portions but oversized cost. Refuse the waiter's recommendation to order 3 tapas per person - unless of course you'd like to contribute towards his Tasca Brava Mercedes SUV (selfishly parked in the spot closest to the restaurant). more

Sad Cafe 6/25/2003

I was really hoping this place was going to be great. The setting was very inviting and promising. Sadly, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Nothing about the evening was good. The portions were tiny, the service inept, the food unremarkable and the bill was huge. Second Empire or Irregardless or one of the dozens of other good restaurants within a few blocks would be a much better choice. Pros: location, exterior Cons: service, portions, quality more

The best soups in Raleigh & unusual tapas 2/26/2003

This restaurant has the best soups I've tried of any restarant in Raleigh. They keep reinventing the gazpacho recipe which is a cold soup,; i like the cruchy add ins. The also have a delicious corn chowder type soup and another with cauliflower accented with pears! Among the tapas I can recommend the croquetas plantano dulce which is as good as a desert. And they have a causa limena which is a savory potato tapas. Basically I like all their begetarian tapas. Among the entrees I can highly recommend the grouper; this fish comes with cruchy capersw, and rice and beggies that have been seasoned with the same sauce as the fish; its like a concert of flavors. All the deserts are good but the churros & chocolate is perhaps the most authentic I recall from my trip to Spain. The decor includes posters; if you look closely you'll see the owners have cleverly inscribed their names into the posters announcing bullfights! Enjoy! Pros: Easy parking, Reasonable Prices, Great tasting food Cons: can be a wait for some food...but theyre making it fresh... more

Columbus would have eaten here. 2/26/2003

Think ""Tasca Brava"" instead of fondue for your next date night. Youll talk about Tasca Brava at work the next day, guaranteed. This is the only place in town where you can find this unique style of dining. A new experience of Spain in Cary - at an independent local restaurant. I'm a gardener, yet, have never experienced asparagus this fresh! First dates, romantic anniversaries, impress your friends and clients. Pros: gourmet ethnic food, goat cheese, tapas! Cons: for food lovers more

Great Food at Tasca Brava 2/19/2003

I often eat out and ""Tasca Brava"" is one of my favourite restaurants in Cary. The menu includes a number of creative recipes based on classical Spanish dishes. Don't stop at the Tapas (which are really more appropriate for a ""snack"" than a dinner) but try some of the main courses. Some of the fish-based entrees (salmon or grouper for instance) are truly great. I also love some of the fine dessert-wines that the restaurant carries. The dining room is relatively small and therefore not really suitable to large parties (say more than 12 people) but it is well decorated in Spanish style with good taste. Service is excellent and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service Cons: Small dining room, Location more

Great people serve great food 2/8/2003

Great food served by some of the nicest people in the Triangle. You can make a meal out of the Tapas (appetizers) or go for the main dishes. There are always some special little surprises and all capped off with perfect expresso! Worth a visit just for something different! Pros: variety, unique, great service more

Absolute Best! 2/7/2003

I can only assume the previous two comments were patrons seated together, and that neither is well traveled. What they confuse for pushy behavior is a passion for the food and how their culture is represented through that cuisine. I discovered this Mecca of Spanish cookery well over a year ago and usually find myself gravitating back twice a week, minimum. Everything you consume is crafted by hand if you want processed meals, go to Chilis. If what you seek embraces the concepts of quality and a dedication to the basic principles that nearly every other country follows with specific regard to lovingly created gastronomy, go to Tasca Brava immediately. I have personally recommended this restaurant to nearly sixty friends and colleagues; none were disappointed in the slightest. Pros: Food, Food, FOOD! more

Happy Birthday Spanish Style 2/7/2003

I went to Tasca Brava for my birthday because I love Tapas. And I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful the food and service was. Everything was magnificent. The only thing I'd suggest to the owners is to increase the portions. When paying $5.95 for a tapas, I expect to have 4 pieces or so, not the 2 we were presented. But if you're willing to try some tapas I'd suggest going on payday - it's worth it! Pros: tasty, lots of room, great service Cons: pricey, small portions more

Pleasant Dining Experience 1/13/2003

What a great place to go for a romantic dinner. The service, food and ambience were all fantastic. I definitely recommend Bistro 607 to anyone who wants a nice experience dining out. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Excellent! 8/18/2002

This small Spanish cafe is great! Four of us tried an assortment of salads and tapas for lunch and each one was delicious. The owners waited on us and explained all of the dishes. The Spanish cheese assortment was great, as were the large shrimp and chorizo sausage. The food was very well seasoned- spicy but not hot. The rum raisin, apple crisp, and espresso ice cream desserts were each spectacular. We can't wait to return for supper. Don't miss the sangria! Pros: Intimate cafe, Friendly owners more

Hidden Treasure 7/24/2002

What a treasure for Cary and the Triangle Area in general. We took food out home from the restaurant so that we could enjoy the food and not be hassled by our young kids. We didn't realize the level of quality we were in for...the food was fabulous! This restaurant is a hidden treasure for the area. I do agree they do try to pad the orders so watch for that. more

Tipping tapas 7/19/2002

I agree with the previous post 100%. We were a group of 4 who visited the restaurant last month. That waiter is actually the owner who's only interested in hustling and pushing the bill up. Since we didn't order wine, he got upset. And to make matters worse, he was not satisfied with the tip. We saw his reaction after we got up. First of all, tips are 15% only if the service is good and second of all, owners should not get tipped. THAT'S A CARDINAL RULE! more

Pushy Waiter 7/15/2002

I visited Tasca Brava over the weekend. It is true that the dining area is very crowded but once seated that does not take much adjusting to. What did bother me was the lengthy amount of time it took to be approached by the waiter. Once approched and our order was placed (2 people) we were told that we had not ordered nearly enough food (five Tapas and bread) to be sufficient and we were asked if we even know what Tapas were...HELLO...even if we didn't there's an explanation on the back of the menu. Once our food came it was obvious that we had more than enough and our waiter was playing the ""push the bill up"" game. I did enjoy the food but did not like the attempted ""hustle"" by the wait staff. more

9.2? 9.2?!?!? How about 10! 7/6/2002

Excellent Sangria. Everything was very fresh and authentic. The owner and his wife are both very friendly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a little culture and a change from the boring same old restaurants. Pros: AUTHENTIC food, Intimate more

Really unpleasant experience 6/18/2002

I am a very undemanding diner and almost never complain or send dishes back. But this was the worst experience I have ever had out at a supposedly upscale restaurant. First of all, the prices -- come on!! There are so many great restaurants in the triangle who serve better food at half the price. The scallop appetizer made my fiancee and I laugh because it was a single, nickle-sized scallop on a HUGE plate. And we actually overheard the servers out in the hall making fun of the diners at the table beside of us. Service was the real downfall of the evening, but blowing 120$$ on such a horrible experience was a close second. Try Sullivan's or Enotica Vin instead. At least the wait staff won't ridicule you there. more
