Tango Sur is a great restaurant that really gives you a great value along with a wonderful dining experience. The steak there is amazing with all that flavor. Their mashed potato...

The food was excellent and the place had great potential. Very cute inside, but it was the worst service I've ever experienced. We were rushed through a three course meal in 30 ...

BEST STEAK EVER!!!!! 6/21/2007

I moved to Chicago about a 1 year and a half ago and this is one of the first places I went to. Needless to say after visiting many other Top Steakhouses.....I have been to this restaurant 7 times since the first!!!! I have taken everyone that has visited me in Chicago. The Argentine beef is beyond delicious. I have had the filet with the Argentine style potatoes as well as the Spinach potatoes........OMG it's so......freakin...... good!!!!!! And there is an olive oil based garnish for the steak that is delicious. The service is very good and atmosphere is great. It can be pretty loud in there so think twice about having and intimate evening. All in all.....it is one of best dining experiences in Lakeview. Pros: Location.....its on busy Southport Cons: Location......the parking can be pretty difficult more

A ""Must Visit"" for this NJ Girl... 4/7/2007

My best friend, a Chicago native, turned me on to Tango Sur 2 years ago, and I have craved it ever since! I live in NJ, so I am only able to enjoy the tender double filet mignon with spinach mashed potatoes on my visits to Chitown, which is 2X per year. Having dinner at Tango is a definite stop on my itinerary. We normally go early to avoid the crowd and the wait for a table. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful restaurant. more

No consistancy, but worth a shot 1/8/2007

If you don't mind waiting 2 hours for a steak, then this is the place for you. The prices are not bad, especially considering how big the plates are. There is nothing phenominal about the food, but it's a cool place to dine with friends or your significant other. The BYOB factor definitely is a great incentive as you can save money on the several bottles of wine that you will go through before you get your meal. I usually order the filet mignon, and it always seems to be just mediocre. They give you 2 filets to top it off, but I'd prefer just 1 good quality filet. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it just for the experience. After a couple bottles of wine, you won't even remember how the steaks were. Pros: Ambience Cons: Quality of Steak more

The worst service ever 1/8/2007

The food was excellent and the place had great potential. Very cute inside, but it was the worst service I've ever experienced. We were rushed through a three course meal in 30 minutes. We tried to slow service down, and the wait staff simply wouldn't have it. At one point, we were trying to take something off a plate before it was whisked away. It was not busy and they did not need to turn our table over, so I really don't understand what the problem was. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I definitely do not plan to return. There are so many places to go that treat customers better. Pros: great food Cons: terrible service, loud, tables close together and small more

Save room in the fridge for leftovers 11/13/2006

You will be completely amazed at the size of the portions at this restaurant. Bring four friends, order and appetizer and dinner for two and go home stuffed!! Amazing meat. Try the vacio and the empanadas. Avoid the melted cheese- too greesy! more

Enjoy an Authentic Argentinian experience -- well, except for the B.Y.O.B. part. 11/6/2006

Tables set so close you can hear the diners at the table next to you masticating & mmmming, fast service, dim lighting coupled with a simple candle on each table, good musica en español & the best churrasco I've had in a restaurant in Chicago make this an excellent red-meaty experience for a date, a group or a bunch of tourists wanting to escape the downtown spots. To start, sample some empanadas (argentine empanadas being my personal favorite). They're flaky & tasty and only more delightful when dunked in the chimichurri salsa (which consists of olive oil, loads of chopped fresh parsley, garlic & teensy bits of red pepper). Pros: Ambience, B.Y.O.B., Steak Cons: Authentic salads aren't so great more

Great value! 11/5/2006

I'm not even a steak person and this is one of my favorite places to go! My boyfriend always gets the filet which he loves and I usually get fish or the eggplant and we always leave full and happy! Pros: Value and ambience Cons: sometimes a long wait more

Great Argentenian Steaks 11/4/2006

Tango Sur is amazing for its meat fare. The steaks are succulent and sizzling on your table. The best part is that you get to bring your own wine from the wine store which is less than a block away. I hate the idea of restaurants charging a high premium on wine and therefore it is a welcome break. more

Fantabulous 10/17/2006

it was very simple with a candle lit dinner, yet was also very sweet with the decorations and paintings. The service wasn't very fast but it allowed more time for conversation and was completely worth it once you took your first bite. I had the Churrasco, which was incredibly delicious. It's a 12oz sirloin steak and the seasonings were flavorful, but not too overpowering. This place was great and i'm definately coming back again. Pros: great food and atmosphere Cons: service a little slow more

HORRIBLE!!! 8/29/2006

My boyfriend and I were seated at 6:30 p.m., at 8:10 p.m. we had nothing more than bread and water and our waiter had only come to our table twice. The service was UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE! When I asked to see the manager, she sent out a staff person instead who said the kitchen was really busy. But we ordered our food 1.5 hours before and tables around us were seated, had eaten and left. They staff was unapologetic and rude. We walked out and will never return. I would rather pay decent money for good service than go to this cheap place simply to be ignored. more

Loved this place! 7/21/2006

We went here last night hoping for good steak, preparing for bad service, and were really wowed! Our wait was only 30 mins so we went down the street and grabbed a drink, we were promptly seated in the back room and it was really romantic - I loved the dim lighting, candles, and exposed brick. It was a bit loud, but nothing too bad. Pros: Ambience, Food, Value more

Awesome group dining 7/20/2006

We celebrated my sister's 20th birthday here, and the food was incredible, especially the beef, and I would highly reccomend the basic filet, although the bife Vesuvio was also delicious but I prefer good meat by itself. The empanadas as appetizers were wonderful as was the ensalada russa, and the tortillas de papas. The portions were huge! and everything was easily shared. The value of the food was also amazing, especially with the amount of quality meat you were consuming. Great atmosphere, good looking servers who provide great service as well, just lots of fun! Pros: BYOB more

GREAT!! 5/22/2006

This is a great choice for a date that is not too pricey. The ambience is great, each table is lit by candlelight. The filets were awesome! And we definitely have some great leftovers to each throughout the rest of the week! more

Sales/Marketing 5/12/2006

This place is great!!! My boyfriend and I went for his birthday. We each got our own meal but they give so much food that you could share. The meals that are designed for two are more food then two normal can eat. It is also great because it is BYOB. Where else can you get a fabulous steak dinner for less then $50 for two people? Only bad thing is they don't take reservations, but they will take your phone number and call you when your table is ready. Pros: Food, Price, BYOB Cons: No Parking, No Reservations more

delicious! 3/24/2006

my boyfriend and i shared the ""vacio"" steak made for two... it arrived on a sizzling plate with grilled sweet potatoes on the side. the best steak i've had in a very long time. possibly the best steak in chicago! my sister had the churrasco, which was a HUGE portion for the price ($14), but also delicious. i could have dunked anything that was given to me in the chimichurri sauce! it was just perfect. we ended off the meal with coffee and dessert which was also good. :) our waiter was very nice, courteous and knew when to attend to us. overall, great experience, but arrive early! it got packed FAST, with a wait of 2hrs eventually, and we got our table at about 5:30pm. i will definitely go again! Pros: best steak, byob, good waiters, great value! Cons: small, gets filled fast more

Good Food, Good Prices 3/23/2006

I have been there about 20 times. I go for the food, but I would not want to go on a date there. It is so noise, you cannot hear yourself think! It get's so busy waiters trip over each other. They are so busy it takes them a long time to serve you. However, they are so charming, it's okay. This is not a place to go if you need to be somewhere else on time. Pros: Good food, Good prices Cons: Very noise, Service varies, Very Crowded more

User review by angmell 9/18/2005

took my wife for dinner on her birthday because we had previously had a big celebration earlier with 25 friends. this was our first. we had a candelight dinner in an informal setting dinner for two for less than $50, featuring the beef for two - $32 and worth every penny. best flank steak i've had. the venue included our own byob champagne, appetizers (eggplant was to die for)... and dessert. wow, what a bargain. obviously a popular spot for many others who looked like regulars- got crowded quickly...on a wed night. no wonder, the service and food was marvelous. we'll become regulars for sure, even though we are southsiders. worth the trip! Pros: casual ambiance, outstanding service Cons: parking, a bit tight... more

Excellent beef 8/14/2005

excellent meats, great atmosphere, can sit outside---fun and delicious dining experience! highly recommend more

Everyone agrees......can you all fit? 7/20/2005

One of the best BYOB spots in Chicago!! Tango Sur is an intimate restaurant with the dark ambience set off by candlelight creating a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. The food here is great and VERY affordable. The steak here has always been cooked to the perfect temperature! The Al Filet (filet mignon) are my favorite. Summers are VERY warm in there due to the crowds and the wait for the food can sometimes be considerable. BUT.....good company and a nice bottle of wine helps to while away the time. Definitely make reservations if you're a party of 6 or more or get there earlier. Late comers have been known to form long lines outside the restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Pros: Great Tasting Steaks, Bang for Buck!!, BYOB Cons: Lack of Good AC, Wait on Food, No reservations? SOL more
