Perfectly Satisfying 11/4/2009

I have read most of the reviews and just 'gotta tell ya' -- we had an excellent first experience before an ASO concert last week. I had done my research before making a reservation, so understood the menus and, more importantly, knew that this is a fairly expensive place to eat. Being an experienced ""foodie,"" I was not looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but excellent, well-thought-out food and service in a comfortable and beautiful atmosphere. This is exactly what was provided! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: None on this first visit. more

1280 Burger Well Worth The Trip 9/6/2009

On a whim, my wife and I checked in after a visit to the High. I wasn't impressed with the austere modern decor, but we decided to try it anyway. The lunch service was brisk, but we were seated quickly at a window table with a nice view of the courtyard. We both opted for the Table1280 burger, which is topped with portobello mushroom and swiss and comes with a side of steak fries. Our server brought our drinks quickly, along with fresh-baked bread that was delicious. It was a longish wait (30 minutes) for the burgers, but they were well worth it! Great char flavor, oh-so-juicy and perfectly cooked - totally unexpected! We've been to Flip, The Vortex, Rhea's and many others, and I'm shocked to say this was the most memorable burger experience we've had in Atlanta. The portabello and swiss added just the right accompaniment - no condiments needed. A word about the fries-I'm not normally a fan of steak-cut fries, but these were incredible. Just the right amount of exterior crispiness, with a delightfully tender center filled with potato-ey flavor. We overheard someone at another table complain that the fries were served too hot, but they were perfect for our tastes. . . I'd much rather have them served piping hot than the opposite! One final word about our server: Although we were only a table of two, both ordering one of the least expensive items on the menu, he was attentive, informative, and polite, never rushing us during the course of the meal. Overall, we were both very impressed and looking forward to a return to confirm our first experience! Pros: Best burger in Atlanta, great service Cons: Pricey, austere atmosphere more

Not at all worth it! 4/19/2009

My wife and I decided to try Table 1280 before we visited the High Museum. We started with two starters, the Shrimp and Grits and an Arugula salad. The shrimp and grits were cloying sweet, would have been sweet enough for dessert. The salad was very good however. We then had to wait 40 minutes for our entrees and watch all of the other tables around receive bread while we were never offered any. For our entrees, my wife had the red snapper. The piece of red snapper was much smaller than the accompanying fennel salad (i.e. tiny) and wasn't very interesting. I had the sous vide chicken with farro salad. The farro salad was good and the chicken had a nice crispy skin, but honestly not only have I had better at a number of restaurants in Atlanta, I can could have cooked this just as well at home. The prices were VERY high for the quality of food and service. I would not recommend wasting your time or money on this restaurant. Pros: Closest restaurant to the High Cons: Food, service, value more

Great Service, Drinks and Small Plates 2/15/2009

We stopped by the Table 1280 after visiting the High on Valentine's Night. It was surprisingly not that crowded, however, we found out that they were only serving a $55 price fixe menu that night so that may have been a reason why. My boyfriend and I ordered some cocktails at the front bar and ate two small dishes that were available aside from the price fixe menu. Although it was a bit expensive (appetizers were $15, desserts were all $8) we were glad we came. The server/bartender was extremely attentive and friendly. We ordered the prosciutto and arugula salad with bread sticks and the Creme Brulee Duo which consisted of raspberry and chocolate flavors. The appetizer tasted great, whether it was worth $15 is debatable, but we understood it was Valentine's Night. The dessert was skimpy, very tiny, but it did taste wonderful. It was rich and filling considering its size. I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for somewhere fancy and visiting the High Museum on a date or special occasion. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a lovely and spacious bar area with modern furniture and seating. I will definitely return on a normal dinner night when they do not have a set menu. The staff here is very polite and professional, no complaints there. Pros: Service, taste of food, atmosphere, bar area Cons: Very expensive food more

Don't even bother 2/4/2009

I dined with a party of 5 before the seeing a show at the theatre. Food was decent, but service was slow. We were in a rush when we finished, and recieved our check to find that gratuity had already been added. This would have been fine, except that along with the 20% gratuity was a 20% seating charge. We brought this to our waiters attention, and had it explained by the manager that they added a charge to seat each guest. In a rush, we ended up paying over $100 for a $250 bill. On top of that, we almost missed our show. If you're headed to the Arts Center, enjoy the show and skip the dinner. Pros: Proximity to the Arts Center Cons: Everything else more

Best Crab Cake in Atlanta! 8/24/2008

It is very unfortunate that many of the reviewers did not enjoy this place as much as I did. There is an incredible level of sophistication that comes with this amazing space, designed by famous archetict Rezo Piano, that's compatible with their delicious dishes. I had lunch with a friend at Table 1280 after we visited the museum. It was amazing how our touring of various works of art didn't just end at museum as we sat across from culinary perfection in both presentation and taste. I had a remarkable bowl of gazpacho soup served in a unique white bowl, which made it's beautiful red color pop. The vegetable and ingredients used to create this soup were diced just right, not too thick, not to thin and topped with a drizzle of olive oil. I sopped every bit of it up with pieces of warm golden-brown focaccia bread that I learned was made in house by their pastry chef. It was delicious, tons of herbs, tons of flavor. I took evreything in me to prevent licking the bowl. Our server, Marcus, was great. He made use feel completely comfortable as first time diners. He was very knowlegable of the menu and seemed to have a passion for it. My friend and I actually tried everything he recommended. The crab cake was AWESOME! I was a little disappointed in t's size but it is worth every penny. It was about the size of a tennis ball and broiled golden on a bed of remoulade. There was very little breading and a large majority of jumbo lump crab meat, next to a side of slaw made from a mixture of fennel, green bell peppers, and cabbage. Pros: It's at the High Museum Cons: I didn't get to try the entire menu more

Credit Card Compromised 10/29/2007

My credit card was compromised at this restaurant last month. Table 1280 has charged my card for hundreds of dollars, when all I had was a couple of drinks. I see this happened to another person on this site. Makes me wonder if this isn't fraudulent act on behalf 1280, as they certainly have not been accomodating trying to help me sort it out. I've wasted several hours at this point trying to fix the situation. This is unacceptable. I will be reporting them to the better b*siness bureau. If you must dine at this dump, my only advice to you is to make sure you pay with cash. Cons: food isn't very good, they steal from customers more

Unauthorized Use of My Credit Card 10/24/2007

I ate here on 9/19 with a friend of mine after a visit to the High. We had an overpriced, average-tasting $80 mid-afternoon appetizer/drinks combo. Subsequent to this meal our credit cards have been charged over $500 total on behalf of Table 1280. Both myself and my friend have had to dispute our AMEX bills for everything but the $40/each. I have called Table 1280 and have spoken with both Ellie and Valerie who assured me it was the fault of their 3rd party POS provider and they were in the process of remedying. I've called and left subsequent messages and they haven't been returned in over a week now. We'll settle this through AMEX, hopefully, but their customer service is just as sub-par as their overpriced food. I live, work and play in Midtown and will never return to this restaurant. Cons: Poor food and customer service more

Way overpriced for what you get 10/20/2007

I just went last night. Service was great. The bread and butter was great (maybe because I was hungry). Our entrees were absolutely horrible. You pay $30 for an entree, you'd expect it to be palatable. I couldn't even finish my food. Thank goodness we had bread. Pros: Location at the High Museum Cons: Value more

Too stark, food VERY mediocre 5/18/2007

Don't bother. Overpriced, stark, like eating in the lobby of an office building. The food isn't even that good. Service snobby to boot. Pros: Atmosphere is horrible Cons: Food doesn't compensate for that fact. more

Great Space! 12/25/2006

First I will start with the scene, as I always try to do! This place was funky, I loved the light in the main dining area, almost like a tie-dye light fixture, and the wave like ceilings were very cool. The waitress even explained to us the theme of the decor. Now, for the service. Our waitress did seem a little moody at first, but she cheered up and even took the time to take a picture of my girlfriend and I which is now in a frame. The plates, silverware, and cups make this a fun place to eat. The server was prompt and made great recommendations. The toe crab appetizer was delicious. The main courses my girlfriend and I had were the prime sirloin and best end of lamb. The sirloin was tender and juicy, with a piece of cheese to compliment the potatoes, overall fantastic food. My girlfriends lamb honestly was a bit tough. It was good but there are places such as Kyma that make lamb so well it is hard to top that type of quality. Still her dish was just fine for the price. I want to comment on the users who give this place a bad grade and say ""back off."" The portions are small yes, but it is attached to a museum! Get a clue if you want huge portions for cheap go to McDonalds. The place is supposed to be somewhat cold, again it is attached to a museum come one Atlanta! I would recommend this place to people who want a funky atmosphere with great food, and would not recommend this place to uptight pushovers! Pros: Setting, decor, and food Cons: Portions, and that is only if you expect a large portion! more

Very disappointing 12/12/2006

Went here for lunch before visiting the High Museum . Granted, it was probably the coldest day of the year so far, but I expect when I'm seated inside (nowhere near a door) for it to be at least a comfortable temperature. Guess again. This poorly constructed building allows you to feel exactly how cold it is outside. If you go here in the winter, I highly recommend you asked to be seated away from a window. Either that or bring some gloves and hat to wear inside. If you are unlucky enough to be seated next to a door, dont hesitate to leave because you will be freezing to death if you stay and eat. Pros: Its close to the High Museum Cons: Poorly insulated building, overpriced for what you get more

Palate Pleasing Appetizers! 10/3/2006

I can still taste the delicious crabcakes, decadent dessert, smooth non-alcoholic spritzer..well, you can tell, I was pleased. However, I do think 1280 is a little pricey, but worth it! I'll be prepared next time I decide to grab a quick bite with just a few bucks(LOL)..thank goodness for my VISA checkcard. A great place to unwind and enjoy the great view of the new and improved High Museum, it's quite picturesque. Pros: Nice view, convenient location! Cons: expensive more

Disappointing 9/23/2006

We went to Table 1280 because we had eaten at Oscars before and really enjoyed Todd Immels cooking. Unfortunately, our experience here was less than satisfactory. After being seated at a table where it seemed the air conditioner was blowing directly on us, our waiter told us he had gotten complaints about that table before and moved us. No better. The restaurant was still freezing. Bring a sweater. It took us over 20 minutes to get our bread. Although we never complained our waiter took it upon himself to apologize to us about the spotty service no less than 3 times during the meal. Although the food was very good, the portion sizes on the entrees were very small and we all felt cheated. At this price range we were all very disappointed in our dining experience. more

Overpriced with cold atmosphere 9/6/2006

Convenient pre-theater dining is the draw, however the stark, brightly lit restaurant looks as inviting as a hospital cafeteria. The service adds no warmth and we were rushed through the meal, though we'd arrived two hours before the play. Pros: Great location, convenient to High Museum, Symphony and Alliance Theater Cons: Overpriced, tiny portions, inconsistant food quality more

User review by bradevans 3/27/2006

Took Mother there for b-day on a Sunday night, food was awesome, great service, music volume was perfect, nice view of The High. Overall great experience. more

Visit Table 1280 and High Museum of Art 2/12/2006

Compared to what was previously available at the High, this restaurant is much needed. Food quality was excellent, although portions were small for the price. Wait staff was pleasant, but not well trained. Our waitress didn't check silverware according to what we ordered so we had to flag someone down and get a knife for quail and a spoon for soup. She also didn't know how to pronounce some of the items on the menu. We were there for lunch and the noise level was miserable. Call ahead for reservations on the weekend. I'm glad we tried it, but probably won't recommend to friends. If we go back, it will be strictly for convenience, and not because we think we got a lot of value for our bucks. Lunch meal was $72 for two people, which included just one glass of wine for me. Pros: food quality, convenience, cool restroom sink! Cons: noise, priced too high more

Not good if you want to catch the Symphony 2/2/2006

This is not the place if you want to squueze in some quick food before going to the ASO. The service was poor - slow and understaffed. The food was very elegant in presentation, but not worth the money. Pros: near ASO, good parking Cons: expensive, rude staff, slow service more

No, thanks! 1/31/2006

If you are used to having nice dinners and don't mind spending money on enjoying a high class experience, this is NOT THE RESTAURANT. I thoroughly look forward to trying out new restaurants every week and I don't mond shelling out the cash for it however, the money you spend on Table 1280 for what you get, is NOT WORTH IT! I think the chef believes he will be feeding people with no appetites. The ambience I have to say is wonderful, however, the amount of food you get will make you laugh. The service was ok. It's too bad because I had high hopes for the place. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Amount of food more

Delicious Minimalism 1/29/2006

Having eaten at several similar restaurants around the country, I found this to be a delight. Unlike the other reviews, the service was excellent with only a hint of snobbery, which in my opinion, is part of the atmosphere. Clean, elegant, bright, minimal... the few things that add to the ambience, such as the neon light bar, are stunning in such an atmosphere and because that is your only focal point, besides the food, and your company, bring someone you enjoy. The food was well prepared, though the chickpea fries were only soso. Pros: Ambience, Minimalism, Service Cons: Chickpea Fries, Parking more
