I like great Japanese food, and this is the place to go for sushi!

Worst

I do not agree with the good reviews here. We went there based on very good reviews here and on some other sites. We ordered 10 Nigiris each (combo), and one time 6 nigiries and 8...

new help? 4/5/2006

Man, I haven't been this disappointed in a while. I guess because prior to my visit, Sushi Bistro was rated #1 sushi joint by BoC. What a letdown. Pros: sushi, rolls Cons: terrible service, parking, noise more

Fresh and easy 4/1/2006

I moved to the city in December and have been compulsively sampling sushi restaurants in every neighborhood to find "The One." Sushi Bistro had some of the freshest fish I have ever had, and their roll selection was a wonderful combination of old favorites (Spider, Dragon, Rainbow) with unique and tasty creations (must try the lobster rolls!) The service is great and the price is right. It's not a big place, so make reservations on a weekend. Pros: freshness, service, price Cons: small more

Great sushi at a great place 3/3/2006

I've lived in San Francisco all my life, and have been going to sushi restaurants all over town - west portal, sunset, marina, Richmond, etc. I've never enjoyed sushi more than at Sushi Bistro. The fish is fantastic, the service is great, and it's the only place that I have been to that has the correct balance of price vs. quality of food/service. Pros: Fresh Fish, Service Cons: Location, Parking more

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! 1/22/2006

Great, creative rolls! A lot of yummy, lobster combinations. Definitely going back! Pros: Lobster rolls, creative rolls Cons: parking more

wasn't real sushi 1/16/2006

Fake crab meat.... Pros: Service Cons: Imitation crab meat, Soy Sauce more

They roll them out slow, but it's tasty. 1/12/2006

Most of the rolls have the same ingredients, but made differently and they're are very tasty. Service was good, but the only thing I didn't like was that the rolls came out one by one. We ordered 4 rolls. There was the three of us so we would get one roll, then wait then another came out. I was still hungry so we ordered chicken teriyaki to feel full, but the chicken is very dry. Next time I go there I'll request to bring out all the rolls at once. The appetizers and lettuce wraps are very good too, but they roll out one at a time. Pros: rolls, lettuce wraps, ice cream Cons: service of food, too slow more

Sushi Bistro is very addictive. 1/9/2006

I am a "Chowhound". One who loves to eat and would not mind driving out of the way to satisfy an appetite. In my case, all the way from the OC. I highly recommend "The Chowhound guide to San Francisco" for all food lovers. Every 6 month, I have to meet my sushi need and I do not mind driving all the way there even Sushi Bistro is almost 500 miles away. Pros: Genuine smile, good attitude, Creative and tasty Cons: Parking, Parking, Parking more

Very good Americanized sushi. 1/2/2006

My brother and I were in town from So. Cal and wanted sushi. We went on citysearch and decided on Sushi Bistro. While not in a very exciting part of town (north of GG Park, near UCSF) the sushi was pretty good! I ventured to try some sashimi and got gigantic servings of albacore--some of the most generous portions of fish I've ever seen. The quality was pretty good and the staff was friendly. I'd totally recommend it for most sushi diners. I really enjoyed my baby lobster roll and my brother got the spicy crispy roll, which was awesome! Still, for hard-core sushi connoisseurs, I'll always recommend my LA favs: The Hump and Echigo. Pros: open late, wide variety of rolls more

Excellent Neighborhood Sushi 10/16/2005

This is the kind of place you expect in San Francisco - quality, smaller place, excellent fish, neighborhood feeling. I've been at least 10 times now and have never gotten tired of the place. Even though I really do not care for tempura with my sushi, the tempura at this restaurant is excellent as well. Pros: Fresh sushi, Tempura more

A Regular's Point of View. 9/28/2005

Friendly service and yummy sushi 9/26/2005

Finally, I have found a decent restaurant that is friendly to kids! I have two under the age of 5. and while I was the only one there that had kids, the owners made me feel completely welcome and were very helpful (even making my oldest a set of "kiddly" chopsticks!). The sushi was delicious, as were the noodles. If you have kids but also love delicious good, I would go here. Pros: Service, Quality Cons: None more

I LOVE this place!! 9/25/2005

I highly recommend Sushi Bistro. I live out in Contra Costa County and have been to all the sushi places out this way and none of them compare to Sushi Bistro. The Sushi Chef there is amazing and very personable. The fish is very fresh and the rolls that they have created there are one of a kind and very tasty! Everything that I have had there (appetizers, sushi rolls, udon, entrees) is delicious. Nice, cozy setting too. Very friendly staff, in fact the last two times that I have been there, almost everyone that walked through the door was greeted by their first name. There is a very strong regular customer base here. Pros: Sushi Bar, Friendly Atmosphere, Fresh Fish more

Simply Delicious! 9/25/2005

I consider myself pretty picky when it comes to restaurants, so I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious everything was, and the decor was darling. Thank you City Search, for picking another winner!! Pros: Reasonable Prices, Great atmosphere, Good food! more

Great food, great experience! 9/24/2005

After trying to get into another sushi place and waiting for 30 minutes, we decided to go into Sushi Bistro. Boy, were we glad that we did! Not only did we get seated right away, the sushi and cooked items were out of this world! I am now a loyal customer thanks to the delicious food and great service! Pros: Quality, Good Portions, Affordable more

Service with a smile! 9/24/2005

Based on the ratings this place got. I decided to check it out, and I was NOT disappointed! Not only did I love everything I ordered, the owners made sure I was happy by coming to check on me, even when the restaurant got busy. You have to go to this place to experience it for yourself! Pros: Service, Quality more

Great place for a party 9/23/2005

I came here for a birthday party, and given the large group, there were a lot of room for problems, but it went smoothly without a hitch! I am very grateful to the owners for their helpfulness. Thank you again for a great night! Pros: Great for groups, Food, Service more

Excellent, Fresh Sushi, and Great Service!!! 9/23/2005

This new fusion style of sushi is great. They have a mix of Italian, Japanese, Hawaiian, Chinese, and Californian flavors in the sushi. The flavors in the sushi is so good that I didn't even need to use soy sauce. The fish there is also very fresh, (firm and flavorful) compared to other places where the fish is soggy and flavorless. I highly suggest sitting at the bar because the sushi chef there is very friendly and knowledgeble. You can also see him making the sushi. Try the wild salmon or tuna sashimi, it is very flavorable. If you're looking for a nice intimate place for about $15 max, a person (tax included), go try it out. Go on the weekdays when you can sit on the sushi bar, if not, weekends are just as good. Pros: Sushi, Service, Atmosphere Cons: None more

Don't listen to the negatives 9/23/2005

I have eaten sushi all over this city and every time I do I find myself comparing it to Sushi Bistro. My boyfriend and I have been going there for over a year now and have tried many things on the menu as well as some new creations. We always tell the chef, Xin to make us something new and he delivers every time. The fish is always fresh, the salmon melts in your mouth. I especially like the presentation of the Big Island roll, which is wrapped in cucumber instead of seaweed. Keep in mind that this place is getting a lot of buzz and it's a small place. If you want to eat quickly I recommend going on the weekdays. Otherwise Xin does his best to keep everyone in the restaurant happy by feeding you little by little. Pros: Food, Quality, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more
