Best

I like great Japanese food, and this is the place to go for sushi!

Worst

I do not agree with the good reviews here. We went there based on very good reviews here and on some other sites. We ordered 10 Nigiris each (combo), and one time 6 nigiries and 8...

Not up to the hype 3/10/2007

My first visit was when the restaurant first opened. Since there was such buzz among my sushi loving friends, I went back. Both visits were disappointing. Kudos to the menu writer as the descriptions sound amazing however the execution is poor. We ordered a yellow tail & sea bass special roll from the daily menu - to our disappointment - the fish was cooked! No where was it indicated nor mentioned that the fish would be cooked in a sushi roll. The nigiri sushi had slabs (larger than usual slices) of fish, however the flavor & texture was not the best & rice (the true art of sushi) was non-descript. Dinner (all sushi w/1 small sake) was $100 for 2. So if huge pieces of fish = great sushi this is the place for you. Pros: decent for location Cons: not tasty more

Spectacular service and sushi . . . seriously, it was super 3/9/2007

Been to this place a couple of times, but my most recent experience is what prompted me to compose this review. Pros: great service, great fish, fun atmosphere, bargain, Cons: it's kind of a hike to get out there more

Best Sushi I've Ever Had 3/2/2007

I've been coming here since I moved to the city, around 2 years ago. The food is always top notch and they keep the menu interesting. Sashimi fans will not be disappointed - the portions of fish are huge and they are the freshest I've ever had. I recommend the Tuna, Albacore, Yellowtail, and Aji. more

Best Sushi in San Fran 2/6/2007

Hip and Trendy Sushi restaurant. Amazing food, great music, and good saki selection. Great place to eat sushi and drink saki with friends. Fun and lively atmosphere, 10+++. Pros: Great sushi, saki, and music!!! Fun atmosphere! more

BEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD 1/24/2007

I live in Orange County, Ca and was in San Francisco visiting family. I eat sushi about three times a week at home. While in San Francisco we stopped by Sushi Bistro. This was by far the best and most creative sushi restaurant I have ever eaten at. From the sashimi to the elaborate specialty rolls, everything melts in your mouth. The sushi and service was so good we ate there the next night as well. I had to get as much of sushi bistro as possible before I went home! Pros: Excellent sushi chef Cons: None more

Great sushi, lovely presentation and excellent service 9/30/2006

I found Sushi Bistro on Citysearch when looking for a place to take my sister on her birthday. I must say the most disappointing aspect was finding a parking place; then again, I would do it all over again to dine at Sushi Bistro. I found it hard to believe there were open tables. Pros: Food, service, availability of seating Cons: Parking more

Excellent neighborhood sushi spot 9/10/2006

Terrific, fresh sushi. Not the most exciting place visually, but the sushi rocked. So did the lettuce wraps and the few rolls we had. I would definitely go back. more

Best Sushi in SF 8/29/2006

This little place is the best in the city. Top two reasons: Really fresh fish and friendly chef and staff. They have a menu full of unique appetizers and rolls (Omega 3!), as well as the more traditional stuff. Like any good sushi place, it's not cheap but, large nigiri portions make it a pretty good value. Sushi Bistro also has a great premium sake list and Kirin on tap. Regulars at many of the Irving St. places are constantly converting so, it's a good idea to call ahead on weekend nights. more

Nice Flavors, Nice Atmosphere 8/26/2006

The sushi rolls are great, many new flavors and pairings. The Hawaiian and Aloha 101 are excellent, as well as the daily/weekly specials. It is just as pricey as most sushi restaurants so no bargains here but at least the food is worth the cost. The service is generally good with one or two nights exception recently when sitting at a table. The sushi bar service is always great! Pros: Specials, different flavors Cons: parking more

Absolutely the Best Sushi! 8/22/2006

What more could you ask for! The fish is super fresh, the rolls are amazing and inventive, the service is extremely attentive and friendly -- AND they play 80's and reggae all night long too -- great vibes great sushi. more

Most innovative and delicious sushi in the bay area! 8/13/2006

Now a regular spot for us. The sushi is super-fresh, the rolls and appetizers are unique and are not only beautifully presented, but are delicious. The staff is very friendly and always attentive. Very resonably priced. A MUST for any sushi-fanatic. Pros: Unique rolls, fresh fish, delicious! Cons: Not a large restaurant. more

You have to try this place! Great Sushi and Great service 7/18/2006

I frequent sushi restaurants often. Sushi Bistro definetly is by far my favorite in California. I am a southern cal resident but I travel to SF once or twice a month. I have to make sure to eat at Sushi Bistro everytime I go. My favorite things to order is the cajun albacore, lettuce wraps, and the miso glazed sea bass. My clients and I always have a great time! more

Best Sushi Ever 6/26/2006

The Rolls are Ridiculous. Sushi no bushi! more

THE SUSHI THAT MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH AND NOT IN YOUR CHOPSTICKS. 6/21/2006

Traveling throughout all my life, I have had a LOT of sushi. From the trendy New York bistros to the humble stands in Japan, Ive had it all. But I never knew what sushi was until I ate at sushi bistro. sf. Rolls like Watermelonman and African Spider are true winners--literally. I remember speaking to the sushi master, Sheen. Not only was he friendly but he makes a mean Caucasian Afro. These names are as creative and original as their taste. I highly recomend this restaurant. YUM! Pros: freshest of fish, personal staff Cons: not open for lunch =( more

SLOW SERIVCE - STILL BEST SUSHI 5/19/2006

Sushi Bistro is the freshest tasting sushi in the city and the chef's special rolls are some of the most creative I've seen (and tasted). The food is meticulously prepared by the lone shushi chef, whoever he is. Despite the crappy parking and the seriously slow service, it's still my absolute favorite and I will continue to patron SB. Pros: Innovative Rolls, Fresh Sushi, Uber Tasty! Cons: Parking, Slow Service more

Great Sushi and Good Service 5/7/2006

We went at 7:30pm and despite the place being full were seated in 10 mins. The Baby Lobster roll was very good. The 8 piece nigiri sushi were excellent. My friend even had the Asahi Kuronoma(Black) beer that is hard to find. The bill came to $51 with 2 beers, very reasonable for good sushi and good drinks. I really liked this place and would recommend it highly. Pros: good sushi, good service Cons: parking difficult more

Everyone should try this place 4/14/2006

Go to shushi all the time and this is as good as it gets. That simple. more

So many rolls to choose from 4/10/2006

I came for the first time since I saw some pretty good reviews of it. This place was so busy, I should have made reservations (even at 9pm on a thursday night). I was amazed at the number of rolls they had. The chef recommended the rolls, and they were so delicious. We also ordred the nigiri, the portions were huge. Food was great, and the staff was friendly. Parking was a little tough, but then again, its SF. Pros: Food, Appetizers, Service Cons: Parking more

service with a frown 4/9/2006

My expectations from this place was high, but was terribly disappointed by the abyssmal service we received. We were planning to head out once we got a rude attitude before we got seated, but we decided to stay to see if the food could make up for the rude service. We ordered a varied selection from the menu including specialty rolls, sashimi, and the sashimi salad. Though the food was fair, there were nothing interesting or unique about their food. This is the first negative review I ever wrote about a restaurant which I felt was warrented. You can find better food elsewhere and at a better price. The service was truly poor and embarassing...I've been treated better at most fast food places. Cons: service, parking, pricey more
