Great atmosphere and great comfort food 11/1/2006

Great experience...The food is just fantastic. Heavy, comfy, exotic. The atmosphere is fun. Keep in mind that you wil probably share that table with strangers but that's part of the fun. Cons: No reservations for party of less then 6 more

food is great, authentic. beers are flowing - no stale pipe deal here. social setting - great mix of people instead of the old lederhoesen kraut (I meant crowd) Pros: enough food/beer for 2 days more

Better than you'd expect 8/6/2006

If it weren't for my sainted grandmother Id say German food is a contradiction in terms. Even so I go here once in a while to remind myself why I don't try spaetzle at home. Noisy crowd here is mildly entertaining and the trout here is as good as you can expect trout to be. Pros: Good beer selection Cons: Crowded more

Suppenküche is the ticket! 7/24/2006

My boyfriend & I go to this place quite often. [Delicious Food, Great Beer, & Wonderful Service] Can't say that we've EVER had a bad time here. We mostly go for dinner, but went once for their brunch. Go early to the brunch, it gets very busy, very fast. Woohoo, Mimosas! I had a fantastically Cheesy, Vegetarian Omelet & my boyfriend got the Potato Pancakes. Wonderful! When we go for dinner we usually get the same thing each time, because we're Vegetarians, but it never gets old! There is a huge beer menu & if you get confused, the servers aren't shy about giving a recommendation about, or a quick sample of the drink in question. We've actually never asked for a sample, but we've gotten a few here-and-there, if we ask about something we've never tried. [a great help for picking out your next beer, if you're worried about commiting to 0.5L of something new] When it comes to the food menu, The Cheese Spätzle is to die for! & with a Side Salad, it just can't be beat! I also recommend the other Vegetarian dish, the Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms, with Spinach, Feta & Pepper Sauce. If you're like me, and you want to eat light sometimes, they cater to your needs as well! [Unlike my boyfriend, I still eat fish... so...] I'll order their fantastic Salad, with Beets, Carrots, Cabbage, etc. & have them add Prawns to it. [most of the time it's not a problem, unless it's pretty busy, but it always gets done right] If there's a wait, chill at the bar until you get a table. 20 minutes goes by fast, on the busy nights, when you're kicking back a nice cold beer after a hard day of work. Prost! Sharing the tables when you get one is fun as well, sometimes you talk a bit, sometimes you don't. When the tab comes, we usually get out at about $40-something, [excluding tip] on the two-beer nights, so not that bad, and worth every penny. All-in-all, this place is like a chameleon. Whether you like to eat/drink light or heavy... they can help you out! Pros: Food, Drink, Service Cons: No Fresh Ground Pepper (but i'm a pepper-a-holic) more

super cookin'! 5/8/2006

I went here on a reccomendation and loved it. The wait wasn't so bad and the neighborhood's pleasant to walk around through in the meanwhile. The seating was a little cramped, but I didn't mind (three of us shared a longer table with another couple who sat at the end). I ordered the Marinated and Braised Beef with Cranberries that was good, but my friend ordered the Sautéed Porkloin in Mushroom Sauce that was killer. I kept picking at his plate the entire night. ADDENDUM-- Went back this past weekend and had a horrible experience with the food. Pork was WAY over cooked and dry, spatzel was flavorless and mushroom sauce was the same that came with the bread dumpling. I'm not coming back. Sorry guys. Maybe it's better in the winter? Pros: , service, beers Cons: food more

Noisy, best German food I've had 1/23/2006

This is a noisy restaurant, but the food is quite good and the beer selection has many of the best beers in the world. They won't sit you until your group is all in attendance. Parking can be difficult, but there is a valet service across the street. The neighborhood is a little 'rough' around the edges, so keep alert when walking to/from your car. Pros: beer, food Cons: neighborhood, parking more

Overrated!!!! 11/16/2005

When I was looking for a new restaurant to try for my birthday dinner with group of friends I came to citysearch. Deciding that I wanted to go to a German restaurant I choose Suppenkuche based on the user reviews and over rating. I was VERY disappointed. I made reservations, but when we got there all of the tables were full. Why I'm not sure, but about 30 minutes later we finally got our table. The waitress was fairly attentive, but the food was just okay, and it certainly wasn't anything to write home about. It was definitely overrated and overpriced. The only good thing was the beer, which was AWESOME! So I guess if you want to go for drinks its a pretty good place, but not for food. Pros: Great Beer, $7 Valet Parking Cons: Food, Sparse Seating, Overcrowded more

Fun German Restaurant but Poor Service 11/6/2005

Fun ambiance with great beer selection, but long waits for parties of less than six and very poor service. Food is average, typically heavy and greasy classic german food, but fair for the price. Wait staff is typically unattentive and wait for food may be long. Pros: beer selection, classic german food Cons: service, long wait, bad parking more

A Surprise 10/15/2005

I did not have a high expectation, but I was pleasantly surprised. The host was courteous, even though the wait was long. He recommended the specials to us. When we were seated, we ordered potato pancakes, suckling pigs, leg of lam, venison sausages. They were beyond our expectations. The side dishes were as well. Especially the creamed spinach. I feel oliged to write a postiive comment here because we had a great time. Bring friends, its agoing to eb a great night out Pros: Group, Food, Beer Cons: wait more
