Waiting a half hour to pick up your pets from boarding? I think that reviewer is exaggerating. I have boarded my dogs at Southern Hills for awhile now and have never had any problem whatsoever. In fact, one of my dogs who has always been shy/nervous around humans is now great with people and I have Southern Hills to entirely thank for that. His tail is wagging from the moment we step in the door because he knows he is in a safe and happy environment in Southern Hill's care. more

I am disabled and simply cannot get out of my house to take my pets to a veterinarian, so i felt very guilty for calling Southern Hills Animal Hospital to ask them for the name and phone number of a traveling small animal vet. However, much to my suprise, the receptionist was more than happy to help me out even though her establishment would have nothing to gain by assisting me. I thanked her for taking the time to answer my question and apologized for wasting her time. She stated that I had absolutely not wasted her time and she hoped that someone would help her if she were in the same situation. She also stated that the Doctors/owners were good Christians and therefore believe in spreading goodwill. Pros: Helpful Staff more

My experience with Southern Hills has always been a pleasant one. The Doctors there care so much about my cats and their health. They always start with a conservative approach in diagnostics and request my permission before performing diagnostics or treatment . I have boarded my cats with them a few times and they always come back looking better than when they were dropped off! Pros: Passionate animal care givers more

Southern Hills is probably the most poorly run business I've ever encountered. My mom has taken her dog there for years. The most recent visit was the last straw and they have received their last dime from our family. The last visit I was in the office for an hour and forty-five minutes. The first hour was spent in the exam room waiting for the vet to come in and perform the most incomplete check-up I've ever seen. I felt like I was in a car lot the entire time, just being haggled for add-ons to the services. I also had a strange feeling that some of the staff was on some kind of drug. My mom boards her dog there and says she always has to wait around 30 minutes for her dog to be brought out. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. They will waste your time and unfairly charge you for services that aren't performed. Cons: Long wait times and uneducated staff more

We started bringing our boxer to S. Hills in November, 2006. She was drinking A LOT of water and was peeing way more than normal. They proceeded to do a series of tests and diagnosed her with Thyroid Disease, placed her on medication and requested a follow-up in a month. The next SIX months consisted of an Urinalysis and Thyroid Pannel (blookwork) once a month. Each month the dosage on her meds were adjusted in hopes to regulate her thyroid. We payed for each visit, in addition to her perscriptions that weren't doing a thing. We payed Southern Hills over $3,000.00 in vet bills for our BOXER ONLY! (We payed $2,000.00 for our 10 yr. old English B.Dog's surgery that died 2 months after recovering. After getting a 2nd opionion on this by 3 different doctors, ALL said they would have NEVER performed this surgery on a dog in her shape.) After six months of the SAME thing with Southern Hills, we finally decided to get a second opinion. We took our boxer to Brambleton Vet and within a 24 hour testing, Dr. Linda Jennings discovered she was diabetic. 6 months of treatment and nothing and Dr. Jennings figured it out in 24 hours!! Within a week, our boxer was back to her old self. Our boxer suffered 6 months of discomfort, because no one at Southern Hill would take my concerns serious enough to do different tests. And I trusted him that he knew what he was doing. They NEVER waved any of the office fees either, regardless of how often we were coming in and it always had to be paid in full at the time of the service. They also switched medicines on us - filled our boxer's medicine with our B.Dog's and visa versa!! Come to find out, it was the 'receptionist' that filled the medicines which she was not licensed to do! To top it off...they made us pay for the refills! No lie! DO NOT take your pets to them. They are overpriced, unorganized and their passion is not to meet the best interest of their clients. In my personal opinion, it's about the money only! Pros: They will always fit you in for an appointment Cons: Overpriced, unorganized, in for the money only more
