Happy Hour 9/17/2009

As I sipped my Chocolate Manhattan, I stared off while enjoying the last few days of summer. Crostini with roma tomatoes and chevre (goat) cheese was amazing. The cheese was super fresh and the tomatoes with basil were mouthwatering. Topped off my Happy Hour with a Baby Burger which has white cheddar, fresh bacon shavings, and not overpowering BBQ sauce. Pros: Yummy options Cons: Full fat more

One of the reasons why I'm glad I live in W'ford! 5/23/2009

Have been here several times and general experience has been very good - good food, good drinks/wines, good ambiance. The staff is pretty knowledgeable about wines and the owner will go out of her way to please. However, space is small and some nights may get noisy if busy. Pros: Great wines & cocktails, location (for me) Cons: Svc can be spotty during busy times more

Loved it! 3/28/2009

Loved this place. The service was spectacular! You have to try the Flights! I went wine tasting with my boyfriend and eveything was perfect, the food, the wine, and the service. Will definetly go back! Pros: Wine, food, setting Cons: parking, $$$$ more

Give Smash a try, you'll probably be back! 2/9/2009

We've been to Smash a few times to enjoy a nice bold wine flight and nosh on (or rather, snuggle in to) their gooey-licious truffled white cheddar macaroni and cheese. Their food offerings are interesting and at times bold...most of the time they're on the mark but occasionally the do miss. The cheese plate (we've tried the Italian and French versions) is continually interesting and delicious, I'd recommend it. I love bold reds and have enjoyed their Spanish Inquisition and Oregon Trail flights. Give Smash a try, you'll probably be back! more

SMASH IS THE SH*T !!!! 12/7/2008

We recently had a bday party for my boyfriend and his bestee, along w/about 20 other guests. Dana was kind enough to shut down the place just for us. The food, the drinks, the service-everything was on point! From the moment we arrived, Dana and her staff were so accomodating and made sure everything we asked for was taken care of. Eric, I wanted to especially thank you for putting up w/my needy-ass. I know I can be pretty high-maintenance but you did a great job =)..The food we ordered was sooo scrumptious!!! The lil tater-tots were ridiculous, the hoison pork was very yummy, the crispy calamari was probably the best I've ever had, the truffled mac & cheese was de-li-cious..everything was absolutely crackin!! Not too mention the restaurant itself..when I first walked in, I knew this was the perfect spot to have the party. It's very elegant w/out being snobby. I like to refer to it as 'Grown & Sexxxy'. Dana, you are the bestest! Thank you for taking care of the birthday cakes so that I didnt have to go to a bakery. And also for getting the Paradis and bottles of bubbly that we requested. You really are like one-stop shopping =) I would highly recommend this spot for private parties, or even a date-night w/ur loved one. Once again, to Dana, Eric, Nicole, and the staff of Smash..Thank you very much. This was an unforgettable night! Pros: Food, drinks, service Cons: Still waiting on phone call about an item left behind.... more

Perfection again... 8/23/2008

I read with disbelief of a woman hating this restaurant. We love it! We can always get a table, the food is exqusite, the wine selection can be daunting but the staff is well versed, and can guide you well. I consider Smash a undiscovered Seattle jewel. We take people there all the time, and always reccomend it to others. Give it a try, you won't be sorry....the chipotle molten cake is to die for! more

I, for one, LOVE the Laugh! 8/15/2008

I am a chef, and an old friend of Dana's and have seen this little place from the start (I was there when they painted it). I love this place. I love their wine selection, I enjoy the food, and I love the all around feeling of welcomeness there. I know that Dana's laugh is unusual and can take you off guard, but loosen up people! You all (who mentioned the laugh) need to stop taking yourselves so seriously! She is a funny lady with a wealth of knowlege to share and she is so very entertaining! C'mon! LOVE THE LAUGH!!!!! Pros: Dana and her staff, the food Cons: some of the other customers! more

The Best Happy Hour Ever 2/20/2008

My wife and I are happy hour dwellers. We love them. We stumbled across Smash this last week. I had 2 martini's, I am a gin man. My wife tried the house red, very good. We stuffed ourselves on potato cakes, duck rolls, a mini-lobster tail, olives, and some savory flatbread, all of which was pretty amazing for happy hour flare. This is the best part though .......the bill $40 for all of that. The service was pretty upscale for happy hour. We appreciated though. My only complaint.....I didn't here about this sooner, and parking can be tricky in that are as well. Pros: Food, Wine, Service Cons: Parking, small sign more

Changed my mind! 2/19/2008

A group of 6 of us went here for Valentines Day and it was not great. After writing a not so great review on here, the owner tracked me down so say she was sorry , that they had a bad night that night and asked us to come back for a better experience. How impressive. This was a huge lesson, to at least give the restaurant a chance to make it right. Soooooooo right on, Dana at Smash Bar!! I will go back. After your efforts......you deserve a 2nd chance! I'm sure it will be great! AND IT WAS GREAT! I HAVE BEEN BACK TWICE NOW AND IT HAS BEEN FABUOLUS. EVERY RESTAURANT HAS A BAD NIGHT, I GUESS. I HAVE TAKEN 5 PEOPLE HERE NOW AND THEY ALL LOVED THE FOOD! WE WILL BE BACK! Pros: Wine, prices, FOOD, SERVICE..even parking was easy all 3 times I have been there. more

I Love it here. 11/26/2007

I went last Saturday. Food was awesome. I had the little cheesy tots, I had the duck with truffled mushrooms, the staff reccomended the pinot flight, it went rather well. I like that the have a sommelier on staff all the time, most wine bars don't do that. Service was great. more

Are you kidding? 9/4/2007

Smash Wine Bar is a joke. We had a flight of wines that were good, not great, and certainly not cheap. The food itself was good, but again not worth the price. I don't mind spending money on good food but this was average food at best served with a fancy name. The service was downright atrocious with one manager laughing loudly and obnoxiously the entire time and ruining any romantic night you were hoping to have. Compared to the other wine bars in Seattle the best thing I can say about Smash is that it feels amateur and I would happily leave Wallingford for my next glass of wine. Pros: It seemed clean Cons: Food, wine, service more

Great wine and food! 9/3/2007

My friends and I attempted to have dinner elsewhere, but after we were told a ridiculous wait time, we walked around Wallingford and came across Smash. A happy turn of events! We snagged an outside table and were doted on by an attentive server who guided us through the extensive happy hour menu. We started with their house made sangria, and couldn?t manage to move on and try anything else ? it was a perfect blend of wine and drunken fruit. The nicely sized portions of tapas consisted of olives, cheeses, salads, mussels, soup, and spreads kept us happy as we sipped away one of the nicest evenings this summer. Pros: Sangria, Food more

Excellent wines by the glass 5/12/2007

Smash is an awesome place to go if you like wine! You can order over 30 wines by the glass and even by the 1/2 glass if you would like to try out a few. OR even better, get the wine flights if you like a particular type of wine, and you'll get 3 1/2 glasses to compare and contrast. I got the Left Bank/Right Bank flight (btw, their website is not up to date) and this gave me a chance to taste 3 wines from different areas in the Bordeaux region for $18. I thought this was a great deal for the quality of wines I got! Ok, enough about wine. Their strong suit, food-wise, is their nibbles. Perfect to pair with wine (or without)! We had the Marcona Almonds w/rosemary and sea salt. I could tell they warmed the nuts in the oven with a few sprigs of fresh rosemary to bring out the oils and it was delicious, warm and perfect for nibbling on with a glass of wine! We also had the hummus platter which was very good as well, although the hummus was a bit thick for my tastes (think paste in a jar). I started with the organic onion bisque w/gouda that was their take on French onion soup and I have to say, although a nice change of pace, fell a bit short of the original. Our entrees left something to be desired. I got the NY steak, which came sliced and fanned which wouldn't be my preference. This is such a lean cut that it probably would have been better whole but I understand they did it for presentation. My gripe is that the Cab sauce, which you would think would be the one thing they would knock out of the park, was not very good! I couldn't really taste the wine or the sauce, really, for that matter. The desserts sounded delicious and we got the molten chocolate decadence cake w/Stoli vanilla ice cream and huckleberry coulis. It was very good! The service was great, especially from the bartender, who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I will bring my wine drinking friends back to smash! more

Great Wine & Cheese 5/5/2007

My wife and I were going to tilth, we stopped by Smash and had some wine and cheese. i didn't understand the whole flight thing , but they helped me through. We had a flight of cheese as well. I think next time we will stay for dinner. Really friendly service, it was a nice change from some other Seattle restaurants I have ventured. Pros: service, variety, ambience Cons: parrking, road construction more

Loved it! 3/12/2007

I have driven by Smash a million times and just went in for the first time Saturday night with a friend for a bite and a glass of wine before heading to the Guild for a movie. I was impressed. The menu had a great selection, the wine was excellent and the ambience is fantastic. I only have a couple small recommendations - the scallops could have been blackened just a bit, and clumsy me, I almost spilled my glass of wine, catching it before I dumped the entire glass. The staff quietly helped to clean my small mess, but it would have been nice to top off my glass. Bottom line - I will be back! :) Pros: Ambience, food, wine, service Cons: parking more

Best wine, Service & Food 3/9/2007

Just got in to town last night, I stopped by this wine bar and wow!!! Jeffrey is a gem. Love it. Love it. I live in New York, but excuse me this is great. Wine Flights, Cheese Flights, a nibble a bite.Casual digs with a flair of style. Maxim overload!! Try Try Try. more

A little less tude please, lot of potential 3/9/2007

My brother and i went last weekend. Very busy we had to wait 10 minutes. Service was friendly. Our hostess gave us some wine. Our server Matt was great, but when our wine came we felt like we were back in school. I just came to drink, not for a 20 minute lecture. Other than that the food was great, the wine actually was too. We will be back, I think i will stick to a bottle next time. more

Best Wine, service in Seattle 3/9/2007

I went the other day with my wife. Can you say fabulous. Server was great. She was prompt, friendly and really took care of us. Food was good, I liked that everyone was treated like family. Well Done. My wife and i moved here from new jersey, that was very nice to see, I have been a little put off by some of these downtown hot spots. more
