Best

Me and my friends eat out a lot and there none better for the money. The Filet Mignon is some of the best in the city. Pros: Great food and atmosphere Cons: Finding a tab...

Worst

The food is simply not as flavorful or as well seasoned as Shiki; plus, the menu lacks the variety of shiki. I enjoy a good steakhouse but also like the option of sushi or teriya...

TUNA 10/29/2007

EXPECT ANYTHING LESS OF A TUNA I have been to Shoguns many times & never was dissapointed till recently when I decided to take my 11 yr old there for his birthday. I called 2 weeks prior to make reservations on a Sunday @ 6:00 which I thought maybe better than a weekend. Upon arrival our table was not ready so we were asked to sat in the bar. While in the bar we were never approached or even asked if they could get us a drink while we waited & watched as others were being called to thier table. Finally 30 minutes later we were called to our table as we sat with 5 others & a baby in a highchair & there was 5 of us which was over the 9 limit they had told me at a table. We were very crowded, no elbow room & 1 of my party actually had to sat at the corner of the table on the rounded part. The cook finally arrived WHITE as could be & so did the waitress who was a blonde. I was very dissapointed even before he started cooking & then we find out hes just started & hes a ameteur. SOOOOOOO bad we were watching the Japenese cook across the way. They never even aknowledged my sons birthday or anything. The food was very good but for 130.00 it definately was a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!!! Think they all left & went to Musashis. Pros: FUN Cons: HAVE NONE more

Best food in town 7/6/2007

I made reservations and we were seated very promptly. Our drinks and first course was also served very promptly. The chef put on a good show and my entree was cooked perfectly. All of the wait staff were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. We got lots of food for our money and are planning on returning very soon. I definately reccomend this restaurant to friends and am looking forward to my next Shogun experiance. Pros: food, food, friendliness, cleanliness more

Agree with one review 5/9/2007

I used to love going to Shoguns when it was on 50th. I agree that the service and taste of food have not been great as of late. As for authentic Japanese people working there, there are not too many of us that live here (yes, I am Japanese) and would probably work at other places instead. Food is OK and service is too but have had better. Pros: Still entertaining Cons: not good for groups of more than 10, hard to talk to friends more

What happened? 3/17/2007

We were loyal Shogun diners for over 20 years and have entertained at both the old location (SW 63rd?) and the new location (May ave.) quite consistently. It saddens us to see what was once a wonderful dining experiece become a corporate nightmare. The food has started to lose its quality. The portions are smaller, the flavor less and yet the prices have increased way more than necessary. Also the staff is not pleasent at all. Normally I would not write a review like this, but after having consistently BAD service and food for 5 consecutive visits, enough is enough! Pros: Sauces, salad dressing and onion soup Cons: small portions, pricey for what you get and rude employees more

Great restaurant 1/26/2007

I HAVE to respond to the comment below. First off, Shogun Steakhouse of Japan is a wonderful restaurant with a unique experience--the premiere establishment in Oklahoma. It has been in Oklahoma City for over 20 years. Any establishment in this industry can attest to the fact that service and expectations are subjective. Many people have never worked in a restaurant and have no idea how it works. They also have ridiculous expectations. (In response to the comment below) WE ARE IN OKLAHOMA. How could one expect for everyone in the restaurant to be Asian, let alone Japanese! What a crude statement to be so disappointed that your waitress would be white! I just do not understand why people expect there to be all Japanese people working there! Would they magically flock there? GET OVER IT. Furthermore, it's also hilarious that of ALL of the trained and skilled chefs that work there, not one of them is even Japanese! So ironic. What generalizations we make! You're paying for Japanese food--not people. Let me clear up some other misconceptions about this restaurant that others do not understand. They will not seat you if your party is not all there, UNLESS you can order for the late arriving party. It is a very self explanatory rule for the following reasons: you are seated with different parties who would not want to wait for you to order, you are taking up a table that others who are all on time could have, by not ordering you are pushing the restaurant behind in their schedule. Also, just because there are open tables does NOT mean there are enough servers or chefs to take care of you (especially if you do not have a reservation!!). All tables are not used during the week, and because the restaurant is slower during the week, there are only a set number of waitresses/chefs available. Hopefully people can understand there things and will comment on more appropriate things. The food, ambiance, and service are great. Stop having ridiculous expecations. Pros: Best hibachi grill in Oklahoma, hands down! more

Dissapointing 8/12/2005

We called to make a reservation and they said they were full. We decided to show up anyway. They had several open tables yet the hostess ecsorted us to the bar. We waited close to 30 minutes without having anyone ask us is if we wanted something to drink....They acted as though we were a nuisance. When we were seated the restaurant was still only partially filled and it never filled during our stay. During dinner our chef never spoke and the food all tasted the same. The vegetables tasted identical to the steak. The rice was good and the soup was good as well... All in all, not worth the wait..... Pros: Rice, Soup Cons: Service, Food, Atmosphere more
