Best

I absolutely LOVE the Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sushi deal. Before finding Shiki 2 years ago, I had never really tried sushi because it was too expensive and I was afraid I wouldn't like...

Worst

Both times I had lunch here, the service was horrible. It was almost impossible to find a waiter, and when we did, he was extremely slow to respond. The sushi itself is good, no...

Best Of the Best!! Love sushi and all the kitchen food!! I have been dined in shiki over 20 times, tried all kind of food 11/23/2007

I've eaten at many sushi places around the world, and I'd have to say that Shiki Sushi is the best! all the servers are very nice ! The sushi chefs are great ! You should try all the Shiki Specialty rolls! all on the sushi menu, and All 2for1, They get sushi shipment afew times a week, the fish are very fresh! The hosts are super friendly!! you have to go there and give it a try!! never say never! Pros: best value ,fast service great place!! don't miss it more

Came to Southpoint to shop but should have eaten at the food court 11/12/2007

Left with a sour taste after eating here. My wife saw this place as we stopped to get gas before going to southpoint and we decided to go after (she) finished shopping lol. I ordered a couple of rolls for my wife and I and had some special instructions on the rolls but the ""Chef made a mistake"" and it took 45 min to get our sushi. Luckly my daugher got her food sooner but the poor thing didn't even eat it because she didn't like it. Eventually after we got our sushi I ssked the server to bring us some white rice and she ate some but wasn't happy at all. Had to go to Wendy's to satisfy her hungry. The buy one get one free deal isn't worth coming there again. Pros: There's a couple of other restaurant around there. Cons: Eating at this place more

Messy and longggggg wait to eat. 11/12/2007

Server was nice and attentive but sushi took way too long!!!!! almost and hour wait. I will say that I was a busy Friday night but I wasn't the only one complaining about the wait. Also the sushi wasn't fresh and it wasn't a picturesque like you see all the time at other sushi places. I looked like it'd been rolled, shoved in a dryer and put on a plate. Very messy. I don't recommend. Pros: Service was nice Cons: Bad sushi, forgot to add that they where out of a lot of their drinks more

Do NOT go here! 11/4/2007

First of all, the ""buy one get one free"" deal screwed my friends and I over. They ended up not splitting our check, so we paid 20 dollars more than we should have. Secondly, the owner was completely rude to us. We wanted to ask him about our check, and it took him about ten minutes to finally get over to us. Then when he did come over, he would not let us speak and kept on interrupting us. He finally yelled and walked away from us, without finishing the conversation. I later went up to him to tell him that I would have been more compliant if he had not been so rude. He then started yelling about how he was 15 years older than we were and that he would not listen to us. In the end, I told him that he had lost our business. We paid the check and tipped our waiter, who was really nice about the entire ordeal. If you want to avoid being insulted and completely humiliated by an unbelievably ridiculous owner, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! Cons: Completely rude owner more

not worth it 10/26/2007

Service is not good. Hostess doesn't know what's going on. Soy sauce is watery. Sushi is okay. Not even worth getting the ""buy one get one free"", when you still have to pay a quarter for the sushi that is ""free"". Went there once with a couple of friends and the bartender took about 15 minutes to make our drink, and I would understand if he was busy and there were tickets piling up but I'm pretty sure he wasn't busy. Service is just not good. Pros: ""buy one get one free"" Cons: service. service. service. service more

best sushi around! 10/3/2007

Everything at shiki sushi is wonderful. The wait staff, the host, and the management. Everything is very enjoyable. The buy one get one free is a good deal, as it is exactly what it says. You buy the more expensive of the two and the second one is free. I honestly think that they have the best sushi around, and the best for your money. I look forward to going once a week! more

Displeased with the half price thing, service; sticking with Akashi 9/7/2007

After being referred by work friends to Akashi, we wanted to try the place their owner started in- Shiki. Honest assessment is this place is better for a date as far as money spent on decor and was indeed doing much more business than Akashi dreams of (at least at night, which is when we go). more

great food at great prices 7/30/2007

I stumbled upon this place randomly, but I'm happy I did as it is located close to my house. The hostess at the front door was ""busy"" doing something else, but we were picked up by someone else and seated. Except for the hostess, everyone else has been incredibly friendly (incl. our waiter). The food was great (entree and 2 rolls of sushi) and at very reasonable prices! The decor was pretty and mellow (relatively quiet, which I like). The service was pretty quick - I've been to sushi places that take an hour to bring our the order but this one was different. However, the place was at about 30% capacity so I don't know how it would do when it's more crowded. And to those who don't grasp the buy-one-get-one-free concept: you pay for the more expensive one, and get the cheaper one free! I will definitely return often to this place! Pros: nice, quiet atmosphere, great prices, delicious food Cons: none! more

Worst sushi I've got in triangle area 7/21/2007

I've been there several times and it was very professional service with good sushi there in the past years. more

Sushi has gone downhill!!! 7/11/2007

Okay, so I used to come to this place at least one a week. The sushi and service were great! I was so excited when they introducted the buy one get one free sushi as it meant I could go even more often! However, the last 5 or 6 times I have gone, the food and service have both gone downhill. The pieces of fish they put on the rolls are now tiny and often chewy and odd looking, and the soy sauce on the table is watered down. Soy sauce might be expensive, but please don't stoop to the level of watering it down to make it last longer! I really wish this place would bring back the fresh and delicious sushi they once served!! The last time I was there, we complained to the server about the food and the soy sauce and she asked us to tell the owner ourselves because she did not want to do it herself! We went to the cash register and told the person up front and they also did not want to tell the owner themselves. We spoke to the owner and told him that sushi was not good the last few times and that the soy sauce was watered down and his only response was to argue that everything is still good! You might want to start listening to your customers if you want them to return again!!! Pros: Good location for RTP workers and Buy 1 get 1 Free Sushi Cons: Sushi has been bad and soy sauce is watered down more

Best Sushi in Durham 5/3/2007

Shiki is a great place for some good sushi in Durham. I still love Penang in Chapel Hill for the food (worse service imagineable), but Shiki Sushi does it up right. They offer the buy one get one free every night for dine-in orders only, which is a great deal on paper. But the rolls you'll pay for are expensive and you still get taxed on the free ones. Nonetheless, I love Shiki and don't go there enough. They have really catered to a clientele of people wanting to come in, sit down, and order quickly...all while sitting in a great atmosphere with earthy tones. They remodeled awhile back and the new atmosphere is awesome with the HDTVs and all, so your husband/boyfriend/girlfriend won't miss the game. Also, they are going to expand soon in the space next door, so there will be even more room for them to make that fabulous sushi! Try the special yellowtail roll with white tuna or the VOLCANO ROLL (my favorite!). Definitely visit if you haven't already. Pros: Service, Price, Location Cons: Wine selection more

Best Sushi in Durham 3/23/2007

Great sushi, good service, and great prices! Beware of going in a group - they won't split checks so you end up getting ""buy one pieces of $9 sushi, get one piece of $3 sushi free."" Otherwise, great deal! Pros: Sushi, Prices Cons: Group Dining more

We've Always Enjoyed Shiki Sushi! 2/9/2007

My wife and I dine here at least 1-2 times a week and have always enjoyed our experience here. We've tried sushi at a number of different places in the area and have found the rolls and nigiri at Shiki to be as good or better than the others. The two-for-one special allows you to try lots of different sushi without busting your wallet. The rolls are are huge compared to some other places and have always been very fresh. Our service has always been attentive and they really appreciate regular customers. It does get very busy on many nights because of their popularity, however, we have never had to wait long for a table or seats at the sushi bar. Pros: Nice upscale decor, plasma TVs, two-for-one specials and service Cons: crowded with hungry people! more

Worst service anywhere! 1/5/2007

I give this restaurant a 1 only because the sushi was actually decent. (Otherwise I would give it a zero.) It is the WORST service I have ever received in my life. No staff member greeted me when I arrived; I had to ask the girl behind the hostess desk to seat me (she just stood there looking at me and doing nothing for 5 full minutes). It took them 20 minutes to bring a high chair, At which point I TRIED to place a drink order, however, the waitress would not take it. Another 25 minutes before a waiter came over to the table. Up until this point, there were only TWO occupied tables in the restaurant. The waiter took our drink order and sushi order (as I was afraid if we didn't put it in then, it would take another 20 min for him to come back and take the order). Then the restaurant began to fill up. It then took 45 min to get our hibachi order and OVER AN HOUR to get our sushi. At that point we'd been there over 2 hours and had to leave as my toddler was an hour past her nap time. I never dreamed arriving to lunch at 11:40am that we would leave at 2pm without having eaten!!! Pros: good sushi Cons: other food only average, NOT child friendly, no milk, no changing table, no kid's menu, staff is unskilled, unattentive, unfriendly, and slower than molasses more

Coast to coast, the best sushi 11/16/2006

I travel quite a bit , and I eat sushi quite a bit. So far, around the triangle and around the US, Shiki serves up the highest quality sushi. And it is buy one get one free. Try the nigiri salmon - it is lovely. Pros: Great sushi, prices, and service Cons: None so far more

The best sushi restaurant in the area - period. 9/20/2006

I've recently moved from a much more sushi-ful area than the Triangle where I ate sushi almost every day for lunch. Shiki Sushi ended my anguish at the thought of only being able to eat sushi on vacation (after many disappointing experiences elsewhere in the Triangle). The sushi is fresh, prepared well and VERY reasonalbly priced. I have always had pleasant and competent servers. Pros: Best sushi in town; incomprehensible "buy one, get one free" offer on maki Cons: Wish it were downtown! more

Shiki Sushi 9/11/2006

This is great resturant. The staff is friendly and the Sushi is great! Is one of the best resturants in Durham . Pros: good food and friendly people Cons: not enough to talk about more

Fresh and delicious sushi at great prices 8/16/2006

I'm sorry I didn't discover Shiki Sushi sooner. It is the best sushi I have had in the Raleigh/Durham area and would highly recommend it to anyone. It's very unassuming in a not-so-new strip mall, but don't let that keep you from trying it out. I have been there several times and they were running an buy one, get one free deal on sushi rolls. The Sunumono (seafood salad on seaweed) is very good. Everything tasted fresh and I thought it was a great value, too. Pros: Conveniently located off of I-40 near Southpoint Mall, great sushi and prices Cons: None really, except for the fact that it's in an old strip mall, interior is nice though more

good sushi and great deals 7/16/2006

Atmoshpere is good, service is average and sushi is great! Prices very reasonable. Recommend highly. Pros: no wait, good food and pricing Cons: service could be better more

Very Poor Service 1/11/2006

My husband and I went with our three children on a Monday early evening. There were a total of five tables occupied with two waitresses working. It took our waitress 15 mins to approach us to take our drink order. Another 10 mins to return with our water and then another 30 mins before our food was ready. She was very rude and did not once smile at us. I can imagine if they were busy but out of the five tables, she only had two. On their plasma tv, Goodfellas was playing. If they are considered a family restaurant, they really need to be more aware of what they are showing. I had switch places with my children so that the tv is not in their view. I complained about the service and the show but the young man at the front did not seem to care. Very disappointing. Pros: good food, big portion Cons: horrible service more
