Best

I absolutely LOVE the Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sushi deal. Before finding Shiki 2 years ago, I had never really tried sushi because it was too expensive and I was afraid I wouldn't like...

Worst

Both times I had lunch here, the service was horrible. It was almost impossible to find a waiter, and when we did, he was extremely slow to respond. The sushi itself is good, no...

Consistently Delicious! 10/26/2005

I wanted to wait to review this restaurant until I went at least three times to make sure my first night wasn't a fluke. This is good sushi. We bring all out of town guests here because the value and the quality are unbeatable. The service is wonderful; not overbearing but very attentive. I read another review that said something about the decor, but I don't really care if there's deer antlers on the wall as long as the sushi is good. And it is! So fresh, big cuts, and great variety. My husband always orders the sushi sashimi combo, and he loves the rich white tuna sashimi. The soft-shell crab appetizer is delicious, but really everything is! Avoid other swanky, high priced sushi restaurants. Your search stops here for delicious sushi. Pros: Fresh Cuts, Consistent, Excellent Staff more

Not Authentic Japanese Food 5/10/2005

This is not a place to go if you want to get real sushi. I went to this restaurant because my friends recommended it when I first moved here. However, I was very disappointed. When I went in, I could tell that the place was not authentic by the decoration of fake Japanese paintings. I ordered some sashimi, but they did not even know how to slice the fish, and they just put a big chunk of it on the plate. Steak was okay, but I thought it was expensive for the average food. You can get better steak at other restaurants with the same price, and same goes for sushi. Maybe I did not order their best food, but I can say for sure that this place is not authentic. Knowing now that there are better places in the triangle, I would not go back to Shiki again. more

Disappointed 5/2/2005

Really expected a decent experience given the reviews here. The sushi was okay, not exceptional but the service was really sub-par. I am usually not picky about service in a restaurant but there were only two people working in the entire place. Even then, they managed to mess up our order. There were people pacing around the place asking when their food was going to be ready, not exactly a great atmosphere. Maybe we caught it on a bad night but I would say that the food is not worth the gamble. Cons: service more

One of the best in the area 9/3/2004

This is our favority Japanese place. We've probably eaten there 50-60 times over the last 3 years. Sushi is always fresh and well made. Entrees are consistently delicious. Best udon in town. Service is friendly and professional. Always clean. Quick to get in and out. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Clean, Great service, Fresh, tasty food more

Tasty 5/31/2004

This sushi tastes great - the best I have tasted here in the triangle. The spider rolls are excellent. The only problem is that the rolls are small, and the fish is sliced fairly thin. Pros: Great taste, Good service, Resonable price Cons: , Fish sliced thin more

good sushi, good service, good value 2/11/2004

I live close to shiki sushi and dine here as frequently as once a week. It is the perfect place for a simple meal without pretentious surroundings. I've never had lunch at the restaurant, but dinners are always good with prompt service. I've been stuck down at ""the streets of south pointe"" with 30-50 min waits for a table at those restaurants, only to find no wait at shiki sushi. It's a great place for a pre or post movie meal. Pros: seldom a wait , quick service, good basic sushi more

Fabulous Sushi 11/19/2003

This is my favorite Sushi place in the Triangle so far. I wish I could afford to eat here every single day. Shiki offers a great selection, fresh fish, and some other interesting choices. more

Shiki Sushi is consistently great! 3/12/2003

My husband and I go to Shiki Sushi approximately once per week... what can we say? We are addicted! The sushi chef's are very talented, the selection is expansive, and the fish is always amazingly fresh! I have been to many places for Sushi, and this place is far and beyond the best in the Triangle. It compares to sushi I've had in DC, Philly, Boston and San Francisco. Pros: good selection, fresh ingredients, great staff more

For non-Japanese food 12/9/2002

For those that like sushi americanized, in other words more like chinese combos than Japanese food, than this is your place. But, if like me you've tasted real japanese food, then avoid this. I don't know how any critic can recommend this place. Service is always slow and I've been there 3 times. The sushi is smaller than usual. The rest of the dishes aren't worth talking about, since they aren't Japanese. Don't know about the noodles, never tried. Typical dishes such as Katsudon or Eel on rice are missing. Tuna on rice is only one available, which is not very good. Also the green tea was not green. Probably was just hot water. Verdict, you can get better sushi at Harris Teeter. Stick with restarants with real Japanese chefs or chefs trained to make Japanese food, such as Waraji. Pros: not crowded, didn't get sick Cons: bad selection, americanized Japanese, bad service more

My favorite neighborhood restaurant 12/1/2002

I discovered this place while shopping about six months ago. The food is great and the people are very attentive and friendly. Good selection of vegetarian as well as fish sushi, and they are willing to make special orders to suit you. They recently got their ABC permits and are still a little shaky on the bartending end, and service can be a little slow on busy nights. But it's a great relaxing atmosphere and all in all a great place to spend an evening. Pros: Great Food, Gret Ambience Cons: Bartending, Sometimes Slow more

Good Food, Average Service 11/27/2002

Shiki has fairly good sushi and for being close to my house is often a stop. However the service is less than desirable. There is one waiter-i think he has moved over to the hibachi side-who I have dubbed ""Mr. Personality"", he could not be farther from friendly. You would know if you had him. Most of the waitstaff seem pretty detached. I was slightly annoyed when about 3 months ago they raised their prices by about $1-2 per sushi roll. The hibachi grill is ok, not as good as some others in the area. The atmosphere is nice, I like the artwork, in the past they had japanese music playing which was nice, lately however they have been playing the mandy moore CD non stop which is not cool. I would go to Sushi Blues over Shiki any day.... Pros: food, artwork Cons: music, waitstaff, prices more

Solid Sushi 9/20/2002

Shiki Sushi is by far the best sushi in the triangle. Not only do they have a good selection of unique rolls like their special Sweet Dragon Roll, they are reasonably priced for quality sushi. more

Super Sushi 9/17/2002

I am glad that I tried this great Sushi place. The fish is fresh, and the service is very good. For a small place, the ambiance is quite nice. We were greated by friendly waitreses and host and he quality of the sushi was very high. Anyone claims to be a great sushi chef... but there's more to sushi than just rolling fish and rice together. Shiki will be a mainstay for this long time west coast sushi lover! Pros: good selection, good service, fresh fish more

The best 9/12/2002

Shiki has something for everybody! My friend says I like soul food sushi. I like traditional sushi, but the soft shelled crab, the fried oyster and crunchy are three of my favorites, either in a hand roll (the best!) or as maki. Friends who like raw fish, it's the freshest. If not, theres also teriyaki, noodles, and other traditional fare. I take all new Triangle friends there so they'll have the best from the beginning. I come from west of Chapel Hill more than once a week to either take some home or sit at the bar. I'm addicted! Pros: easy parking, tasty and fresh Cons: in a strip mall more

Decent Sushi! Nice Management too. 9/9/2002

This business offers a pleasant atmosphere with good sushi. The salmon roe sushi had a telltale preserved taste, completely understandable when you remember you're on the East Coast, and ingredient availability is limited. The chef's signature Dragon rolls were superb, with bits of shrimp sauce over eel in a roll. Service was great, and the servers, management and owner were pleasant hosts to this solo traveler. Pros: rolls Cons: roe (fish eggs) more

good stuff 8/24/2002

delicious and fresh sushi, friendly and fast service, all-around enjoyable. more

The BEST sushi EVER! 8/21/2002

Wonderful service, great food -- what more could you ask for? more

Hopelessly hooked 8/8/2002

I have been gone to Shiki since the first week it opened. I enjoy the sushi and hibachi menus and think it is a very pleasant setting. I am a regular weekly customer and for the most part have found the service to be very good. I have been to the lunch as well as to dinner there and have always enjoyed myself and my meal. It is a excellent place and I always feel better after the meal. Hopelessly hooked more

The One and Only 8/8/2002

Shiki Sushi was my first sushi experience, and of all the places I've been since, it's the best. It also helps that it is conveniently located less than 5 minutes from my house and is a great fix for a sudden craving! Pros: quiet, easy access, helpful staff Cons: small space, less "presentation" more

This place is awesome! 8/7/2002

A group I work with goes to Shiki Sushi every Tuesday for lunch. We've never been disappointed and the food and service are excellent. The sushi chefs are very friendly and masters at what they do. I highly recommend Shiki. I've eaten sushi in most major cities and find this to be some of the best I've ever had. Pros: great selection, good value, best sushi around more
