Sema Hair

I would give negative stars if I could!! I went on the 15th for the Japanese straightening. They told me to wait 2 days before washing it. I waited 4. I had a hard time brushing it and I thought that was strange. I got the same treatment at the same place 3 years ago and I loved it! This time I was extremely disappointed! The first time it took between 4-5 hours. This time it took 2. I felt like it was rushed, but I assumed they knew what they were doing. I let my hair dry naturally and I was appalled at the outcome! My bangs were so fried they were sticking straight out. The back is still wavy and the sides are totally fried!! I called the next day and they told me to come back and they would fix it. That was this past Friday. They redid the Japanese treatment and also gave me a Keratin treatment. Again they told me wait 2 days. I waited 3. I'm using a Keratin shampoo and conditioner. My hair is still wavy and totally fried. They cut the ends to get rid of some of the dryness, but it's still a mess. I am going to have to get my hair completely cut off!! This was a huge waste of $200! There nothing I can do with my bangs except let them grow out. I am livid! They won't give me a refund. I filed a complaint with the Board of Cosmetology today. I will never go there or recommend this place again! more

I agreed the review below. I went to this place becase of the good reviews here. All the good reviews here were written by their own staff. I went to this place on a Friday night while all other hair salons on Broad Avene were bsy, there were only one 50+ year old grandma at Sema hair salon gettig hair cut. \r \r 1. They definitely have sanitory isses. Their towels smell. They don't have hair stylist assistant to help dry your hair. The receptionist does this. However, she doesn't wash her hands before touching yor hair!!! I sawher sneeze, swipe the floor etc then she came to me and dried my hari. I asked her to wash her hands first very politely. She got pissed off leaving me there half an hour unattended.\r \r 2. The owner cut my hair. I showed him the picture and told him only cut it 3 inches short. It wasn't a hard hair style just very basic look. He said I understood. However he cut my hair at least 8 inches!!!!! I had pretty long hair now my hair is short hair. When I confronted him he gave me an attitude saying ""it's already cut. what are you gonna do??? I don't fxxking understand what you want. I did exactly like your picture"" literally he said F word. I said it is no where close to the picture.\r \r I had no choice but call my husband who is tall and muscular and also a police officer. The moment my hubby walked in, he changed his attitude 180 degrees. He apologized again and again. my husband asked him very politely if you think my wife's hair looks like what's in the picture? he said I am not capable of cutting hair. And my husband asked him if your customer tells you to cut 3 inches loud and clear why would you cut 8 inches. It is not a small difference. He said I thoght she looks better with short hair. I can NOT believe the way he treated his customers. So he won't cut my hair the way I want. He cuts it the way he wants. what the hell! Then my husband asked him why you threatened my wife when she confronted you? He said I'm really sorry for being rude to her. blah blah blah like a coward.\r \r I had an event on Friday night and the japanese hair stylist I usually go for a hair cut went on vacaton. I saw all the good reviews therefore i came here. He totally ruined my day. I should have walked away when I saw only one 50+ years old grandma. If you don't want to have messed up hair like me, stay away this place. Don't believe the good reviews. It's easy to write made up reviews. But only real reviews could be this detail.\r \r STAY AWAY THIS PLACE!!!! more

Horrible!!! Never ever go there... i see this all +ve reviews i think the salon people might have written this... i went there and spent 180$ THEY DID NOTHING... just took my 4 hrs... after 1 week i see its not straight at all... went there twice but no +ve result... Beware dont spent and waste your hard earned money just like this!!! this salon sucks... BEWAREEEE more

The staff here is always so nice and patient. they really take their time until you think your hair is perfect. first time i just went to do root touch ups and they matched my color perfectly. have been coming here since then! great haircuts too! more

After years of bad experience at other places i finally came across Sema's and i am totally satisfied with their service ... I have been coming here for the past 3 years and there has never been a time i regretted !! .. i absolutely love the way the do my haircuts and styling .. !! more

This is my second time to Sema for a japanese straightening and its better than ever. The staff was great and quick. They expressed their goal to have me leave with healthy looking hair and they accomplished that. They gave me a free keratin treatment that help my hair look silky and shiny and they did it free of charge! I will definitely be back for my touch up in 6 months :) more

First time at Sema Hair and it was a great experience. Great and friendly atmosphere with great prices. I booked the reseration online wih Grace. I didn""t know what to expect but they Took good care of me and answered all my oncerns about the process of Japanese Straightening. She gave me the price upfront so no surprises. She walked me threw the process of the straightening and how to take care of my hair afterwards. I will definitely come back and would recommend this salon to everyone. You never know what to expect when going to a place for the first time but I definitely made the right choice. more

I read the favorable reviews and called to make an appointment. Receptionist said max price for Keratin was $180 and hair could be washed 2 hours later. When I finished the treatment they took out a ruler and tried to charge me over 210. Luckily the owner was sympathetic to the misunderstanding and did not me the charge the full price. Wish they would have measured first... Also, was told that I couldn't wash my hair for 3 days, which is common, but lots of other salons offer similar pricing options with a 1 day wait period for washing. Also, they sat me under the dryer for a really long time rather than just blow dry which would have cut the time in half. Def. had better experiences in Manhattan and Queens. Worth the trip into the city. more

i found sema hair salon through google and their reviews were good so i went and got my hair straightened with the japanese. with my hair length and curlyness the pricing came out to $180. more

I went to get a simple procedure of hair straightening which I normally have gotten done down the street at Samusal 4-5 times...I should have gone there instead...I lost my $230 and my hair isn't straight....not only that I had gone back twice showing how my hair wasn't straight and he spent more hours ""fixing"" my hair. Overall I spent 5 hours the first day 3 hours the next time and another hour the third time!! and it still wasn't fixed and to top it off my hair from the section that wasn't straight is falling out, the texture is horrendous. Please do not go there unless you want to be ripped off and want ugly hair! I would give zero stars but there was no option for that... more
