Best

The San Diego Wild Animal Park, or Zoo Safari Park as it's now called is my favorite. i like that you can see the animals in a more natural setting with room to run.

As stated by a previous reviewer, SDWAP is not the place it used to be. We used to visit it at least once per year, but ever since they replaced the (free) monorail with a tram r...

Original Jurassic Park 8/12/2005

The San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park provides the amazing opportunity to travel through animal herds from several continents in the comfort of a covered tram. Originally meant to provide animals affiliated with the San Diego Zoo an open place to roam, it was opened as a visitor attraction in respoinbse to public interest. The valley featured in the movie "Jurassic Park" was modeled after a valley in the main enclosure. more

World famous zoo 8/12/2005

The San Diego Zoo is by far the best in the nation. One of only two locations in the United States with giant pandas, this zoo has truly earned its world famous reputation. Visiting not only allows you to see amazing animals in extremely well engineered habitats, but your admission, food, and souvenir purchases help to support zoological research that will save these animals in the wild. more

Great Animal Kingdom 8/11/2005

Animals of all different species that you cannot see in the wild forest are here. The zoo has some of the exotic animals which or near extinction on earth. I like the zoo authorities taking up action to prevent the animal trafficking & pouching else where on our planet. This is the place for an enjoyable family trip. more

AWESOME NATURAL ANIMAL ZOO 8/8/2005

This is a great experience to take in after visiting the San Diego Zoo. This animal park is a HUGE outdoor facility that covers hundreds of acres. Very shaded walk ways which is nice as this is located in the desert, inland from San Diego about 30 minutes. The animals co-mingle in large "pastures" which are reminicent of their natural environments. Lots of great gift shops and areas to sit in the shade and enjoy watching the animals. The safari ride is available and definately worth every dollar! You take a ride in the back of a safari truck out with the rhinos, elephants, giraffes, camels, etc. Guaranteed to have a giraffe slobber on you! more

Excellent animal experience 8/8/2005

The San Diego Zoo is world famous for it's research on animal preservation and habitat studies. The animals at the zoo are all in wonderful health and appear to be very happy in their enclosures. Animals are in "cages" which feature indoor and outdoor areas and are very natural in appearance to their wild habitats. Some animals are hard to see - but they are at least living how they would in the wild. This is a HUGE place with lots of big hills - so LOTS of steep walking. Very fun. Excellent caregivers who can answer most any questions. more

Wild Animal Park is a trip to remember!!! 8/7/2005

If you are looking to see the most amazing place in San Diego, look no further!! The San Diego Wild Animal Park is an entity all unto it's own!! There are several ways to travel around the park in style, but I warn you, you still won't see it all!!! The park is vast, the animals plenty, and the educational opportunities for your young ones and yourself are immense!! This was one of our favorite stops in San Diego...I highly recommend this if you love wild and exotic animals!!! more

The San Diego Zoo!!!! 8/7/2005

If you want to visit a zoo that is the end all, be all, to zoos, you can't miss the San Diego Zoo!!! It is so big, we couldn't see it in the one day that we had there!! It was just fabulous. There is such a wide variety of animals, and the habitat that these animals are kept in are just awesome. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and you couldn't ask for a nicer place to have a zoo of this caliber. I highly recommend the San Diego Zoo!!! more

San Diego Zoo 8/6/2005

This was a very good place to take a family especially with young children as they usually enjoy watching the animals in their environments. As with any amusement or entertainment type place, the food and toys for tourists were a bit more on the expensive side, but overall it was a great place and there were lots of things to do. more

Great Place 8/5/2005

I remember my first time to the san diego zoo, and I have always retained happy memories. The staff there is excellent, and the animals are very well attended to. I remember learning a lot while having a bunch of fun at the same time. Remember this is close to non-profit, so please support and visit this great establishment. more

San Diego Wild Animal Park 8/5/2005

The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a great place to take kids. There is a tram ride that one must take in order to see the animals and it is a lot of fun. Do not go in the middle of the summer. The area is like a desert and with the intense heat the animals do not move much. The children's area is fun for little kids. You can even make arrangements to camp in the park. more

San Diego Zoo 8/5/2005

The San Diego Zoo is probably the world's most famous zoo. While it is expensive compared to most zoos in this country, it is pretty incredible. The tram ride around the park is highly recommended. It allows one to get a feel for the park prior to walking around. The bonobos are fun to watch. The children's section is incredible. This is a great family outing. more

Good Outing for Kids 8/5/2005

If you're a local or planning to visit the zoo three times or more, buy the Zoo Membership. Family of four can buy the package for about $128 (one visit at regular price would be $104). See http://www.sandiegozoo.org/membership/ Good place to burn off some energy if you skip the bus tour. Without the bus tour, I don't think you could see the whole park, but you do get to spend more time watching the animals you like. The Elephants, Gorillas, Polar Bears, and Panda are the big draws, but nearly all animal have good displays. I like the Polar bears and hippo's display as they are setup so that you can see below the water. There is a sea lion show about mid-day that is hokey but fun. Bring a lunch as the food inside the part is expensive. You can get your hand stamped for re-entry later that same day. more

Better than the Zoo! 8/4/2005

I have always enjoyed visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park more than the zoo. They try to put the animals in an environment that is more like there natural habitat. If you visit right now, you can stay at the park until 10 p.m. and see the nocturnal animals being more active. There is also a railway, which gives you an hour long tour of the park. You can also reserve a spot on a special sufari truck and get close to the animals. If you come to San Diego, you should definitely visit the Wild Animal Park! more

No other like it! 8/1/2005

The Wild Animal Park is a must see for first timers to San Diego. I will say it's not really appropriate for toddlers, you'd be better off at the zoo. The reason I say that is due to the tramway at the park. It takes you around the entire park where you can view the animals living together, almost like you're on an African safari! It's quite the photo op! It's really quite amazing to see the animals co-existing as they do here. A must see. more

There's a reason it's world renowned... 8/1/2005

This is by far the best zoo I've ever been to. The pathways are lush with greenery, the animals have wonderful enclosures, and are obviously well taken care of. There are some areas where many animals co-exist (the otters, monkeys, and fish for example). The zoo keepers are very friendly and will help you find out where you need to go. This zoo is HUGE and there are quite a few hills, so bring your walking shoes! The nighttime zoo during the summer is definetly something to not miss! more

travel to fun! 7/30/2005

This is a bit of a drive for most parts of the county but it is very worth it. The wild animal park has a large park that houses many different specied of animals together. It is a great learning experience. They always have baby animals to show and they now have an exhibit where you can feed giraffes. That is a very great experience. more

World Class 7/30/2005

This truly is the best zoo in the nation. They take great care of the animals while still allowing visitors to see them in their most private moments. They have great underwater viewing capabilities for the hippos and the polar bears. How cool is that? This is fun for everyone. more

Less than expected 7/29/2005

While the San Diego Zoo was nice, it was not as great as I expected. The bus tour around the park is ok, but you can’t always see what they’re showing you. The exhibition shows are quite good but you might have to walk a long way up a steep hill to get some places. Use the moving sidewalks when available. more

Wonderful place to go... 7/28/2005

I really enjoyed visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It features many different types of animals from hippos to rhinos, lions to tigers, elephants to giraffes, and all are in a natural type of environment, sort of like a big savannah. It is really awesome to see these animals in what is similar to their natural habitat. Admission prices are a little higher than the San Diego Zoo, but I don't believe admission is higher than $30 for an adult. I highly recommend visiting the Wild Animal Park to get a different feel for what these animals are really like. more

Great place for a family! 7/28/2005

The San Diego Zoo is a wonderful place for families and people of all ages. They have a wonderful assortment of animals to see, including polar bears, giraffes, lions, elephants, zebras, tigers, koala bears, snakes, reptiles, bugs, hippos, etc. Their admission price ranges from around $15 for children to up to about $30 for adults. Great price for such a wonderful day of fun. Their food and drinks are expensive but that is typical of most amusement parks or zoos. I highly recommend visiting the San Diego Zoo anytime you are in the area. more
