The San Diego Wild Animal Park, or Zoo Safari Park as it's now called is my favorite. i like that you can see the animals in a more natural setting with room to run.

Worst

As stated by a previous reviewer, SDWAP is not the place it used to be. We used to visit it at least once per year, but ever since they replaced the (free) monorail with a tram r...

the world famous zoo 8/22/2005

Because this is the world famous zoo, many people come here. However, you can't really see too many predators because they're usually very lazy and sleeping. They do have lots of smaller animals though. Overall, I'm quite disappointed because the admission is very expensive. I can't really recommend going there unless you like small animals. more

The San Diego Zoo 8/21/2005

The San Diego Zoo is a great place to go watch the animals such as elephants and lions. They have many different kinds of animals from exotic ones to modern ones. I like the San Diego Zoo because I can relax there and watch the beautiful animals and see for myself the amazing habits the animals have. more

Great ZOO 8/21/2005

San Diego Zoo is a great biggest Zoo I’ve ever been too. They have the coolest animals and the most interesting looking! I love the tour guides and everything about the ZOO!! I was just so taken back when I first saw the zoo. It’s a great experience for any family! I would totally recommend this place to anyone and everyone of all ages! more

San Diego Zoo 8/20/2005

San Diego Zoo is one of the best zoos out there. Although I have only been there once, I had a great time. They have many different animals that you can see. Zoos are great for children and they will have a great time here. They can see all types of animals and some of them are really cool. more

Can you tell we like zoos? :) 8/20/2005

This is the second of the top 2 zoos in my book. This place is HUGE! Although it isn't free like the National Zoo in Washington, DC, it is well worth the price. We splurged and also got the Guided Bus Tour and the Skyfari Aerial Tram. The bus tour was well worth it. We did this first because it covers most of the park. Then we went back and walked to the areas the bus tour didn't cover. And finally, we got on the Skyfari to complete our journey across the zoo. It was very hot when we went, so the bonuses of the tour and skyfari helped tremendously. We would've ended up leaving early with cranky kids if it weren't for these things. I would recommend you going to the world famous San Diego Zoo...although do it on a cool day! more

Best Zoo Out There 8/20/2005

Probably the most fun zoo there is out there. It’s the only place where it’s felt like animals have enough room to roam freely. Plus, the place is just beautiful. If you go online, you can purchase adult tickets at a reduced price. It’s also part of the Southern California CityPass. more

Wild Animal Park 8/19/2005

I visited the Wild Animal Park last month, and enjoyed myself very much - other then the heat. You might want to bring an umbrella, they dont give you much shade there. The animals were very active that day, but that seems hit and miss, some days are good and some days are bad. Prices are a bit steep. more

Many closed exhibits 8/19/2005

This zoo was ok with a low price. However many of the exhibits were closed and this equates to bad service. Also the concession stand prices were very high for zoos. The exhibits that were open were worth it but so many were closed that I didn't feel like I got my money's worth. more

The world-famous San Diego Zoo... 8/19/2005

Long ago, I visited the San Diego Zoo...you know, in childhood. I don't remember much about the trip (which was combined with the obligatory trip to Sea World), so I thought I would go back in adulthood and see what the fuss was all about. I've been to many zoos in my lifetime and honestly this seemed to be just another one of them. Only it was more expensive and crowded. Sure there were some interesting exhibits, but none that made this zoo stand out from other large city zoos. I have a feeling that I might enjoy their wild animal park more, though I do wish there had been a baby panda bear when I visited! On a good note, parking is not an issue here, as Balboa Park has many parking lots for you to choose from and they provide a shuttle to take you directly to the admission doors. Also you can buy a combo ticket for the zoo and other attractions at Balboa Park for a fairly reasonable cost, so you can see a bit of everything. One cool feature is that they keep the zoo open late at night in the summers. This way you can avoid the inevitable sunburns, and there are less screaming children around. more

World Famous Zoo 8/19/2005

The World Famous San Diego Zoo is so much fun! The zoo is huge and there are so many animals to see. Since the exhibits are spaced out widely, you don’t have to worry too much about crowds, except maybe when viewing the baby panda. The park is very hilly, so be sure to bring your walking shoes. The admission is sort of expensive, but if you plan to go more than once, you can buy a season pass (in which the price counts as a tax deduction). Parking is free. more

Average Zoo 8/19/2005

The San Diego Zoo is like any other zoo that I have been to. The animals that you really want to see, like the Lions and Tigers, more often than not, are hiding. However, you can see any number of different types of deer, that gets old. The line to see the Pandas is always long. The layout of the zoo is difficult if you're not in the best shape. A lot of the walking is uphill. If you want to avoid the uphill walking you have to back track a lot to get to exhibits. The children's zoo is nice, there are animals that catch the interest of the kids like Merkeets, Parrots, Naked Mole Rats and Insects. The food is good in some spots, priced like the average theme park. Parking is free. more

Love the Koala's! 8/18/2005

The zoo was a fun place to visit. One of the better ones I've been to. My favorite animals were the monkeys, the tigers, and the Koala's! lots of fun for everyone, great place to take the kids. watch out for the hills though! It's quite a workout to wander around the park. If you don't like long walks, I recommend the bus tour instead. more

Understandably world famous 8/18/2005

The San Diego Zoo is amazing for several reasons. First, the grounds are extremely well kept. There is no "cage" feel as it is filled with all kinds of plants and trees. Second, it has a huge selection of animals, including polar bears, pandas, elephants, and much more. Lastly, the zoo is located right next to Balboa Park, another wonderful place to visit in San Diego. There is very little, if anything, to complain about in regards to the San Diego Zoo. more

Oh boy is it wild 8/18/2005

Next closest thing to doing an african saffri. The tram that takes you around the reserve is the coolest thing ever. View off both sides, of everything from zebra to elk and everything inbetween. They alos offer elephant rides if you are intersted. There is a pretty cool bird show scheduled throughout the day. more

World renowned zoo 8/18/2005

This zoo was world renowned for good reason. The zoo is the best that I have been to, and I can tell you that I have been to a lot of zoos. This place is always so popular no matter what month it is. The new panda additions and birth are the most popular attraction. It is easily accessible from the 5 freeway or 163 freeway. Be sure to wear good shoes and bring a lot of water because it is always warm and it is a big zoo. more

The don't call it world famous for nothing 8/17/2005

Top notch Zoo. Enough said! Currently there are daily Giant Panda viewings and if you are lucky enough you may get to see the feeding (watching the Panda's go at honey is great) If you plan on going during the summer they have extended hours. You can expect to pay amusement park prices for things like drinks and food, and that is just about the only down point I can think of. Another fun thing to do is ride the double decker bus, you get a guided tour and are able to see much more of the park than waking up and down the hills. more

World class zoo 8/16/2005

This is one of the world's best, obviously. You really need to give this one a visit. It is a huge zoo, you will need to do lots of walking, this will take the whole day if you want to see all of the wonderful animals. Take the tram if you get tired. Koalas and pandas are one of the things the the zoo is well known for, take a look at these beautiful animals. All the animals at the zoo are really well kept which is nice to see. Food in the park is expensive so watch out. But then so are the tickets. more

Safari....in California 8/14/2005

This is really a zoo, but it just doesnt feel like it. You drive around in this train car thing and it feels like you are the one who is in the cage, not the animals. The animals are all so free, they are now pacing around in cages. It is fields and fields of animals. Rhinos, giraffs, elk. They all seem to be roaming together, playing together. They dont seem to notice that humans are there. Although once in a while some animals comes really close to the train, but that is bushels of fun since you get to see it up close. more

Best zoo around 8/14/2005

Ok, so San Diego has the world famous San Diego Zoo, but in my opinion, the Wild Animal Park is just better. I guess I just like the idea of seeing animals in their more "natural" habit in the "wild". I realize that nothing can really be their natural habitat in a zoo, but at least they try to make it that way. The tram they have to take you around is also nice as it means you don't have to walk as much. (There's plenty of walking if you like to walk) Overall, I would recommend the wild animal park to anyone. more

There's a reason it's world famous! 8/14/2005

It's no mistake the San Diego Zoo is world famous. The Zoo is extremely large, and if you walk it all you will have gotten quite a bit of exercise. That being said, it's definitely worth it to walk the entire place. The Zoo has an amazing variety of animals-my favorite being the polar bears! Kids will love the animals, but get tired quickly. I recommend the San Diego Zoo to anyone stopping by San Diego. Just make sure you have a day to spend there! more
