A+ in my book... One of my favorite sports bars to go to in the area. They have great food, great service, and a fairly decent selection of beer. If you go definitely try their ribs. A++ more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/27/2012

Waitresses are friendly and nice, however overall customer service sucks. Asked to talk to the manager after waiting for an hour for my bill.....never showed. Then saw the waitress ask again to come see me and again never showed. After two hours of waiting I was told they could not swipe my card, but could write down my CC number. Not sure how I feel about this, but after 2 hours of no beer or check, I was ready to get the $%$# out! Horrible horrible customer service by the manager. more

Warm & Welcoming - Best Place in Town 5/17/2012

I’m a born Yankee but have lived in Raleigh for many years. One of the things I miss about living up North is the neighborhood taverns – the places you can go and feel at home, comfortable, appreciated and welcomed. If that’s appealing to you, then the only place to go in Raleigh is Sammy’s Tap & Grill, because it’s all that and more. Let’s start with the food. I’ve been going to Sammy’s since he took over and never have I had a bad meal, whether it’s a quick appetizer or salad, a pizza or burger or the best wings in town, bar none. The menu is impressive and far beyond the typical “bar food” found in so many places around town. Prices are more than reasonable, whether it’s for a rack of incredible, melt-in-your-mouth ribs or a mound of extra crispy wings with one of Sammy’s special sauces. Sammy and his crew go to great lengths to serve food that’s fresh, well prepared and appetizing. And with the variety, you will never be disappointed that you couldn’t find something that wasn’t appealing. If you’re a beer drinker, there’s plenty to choose, from the standards to the exotic, along with a full bar of mixed drinks. Like the food, you can always find something to quench your thirst. Service is prompt, attentive and professional, whether you drop by on a lazy weekday afternoon or come by to be part of the crowd on a football game day Saturday or Sunday. Sure, the place gets crowded sometimes, but with indoor, covered deck and outdoor seating, you can usually find a place either to join the crowd and cheer on your team or have a quiet conversation with a colleague or new-found friend. It’s easy to see that Sammy’s wait staff is well trained and the whole business well managed. They look and act like they are genuinely glad you’re there. Tucked between NC State’s main campus and Centennial, Sammy’s of course attracts a college crowd. But don’t dismiss it as a “college bar” unless you’re talking about faculty, staff, coaches and of course students, along with neighborhood families, office and blue collar workers. Sammy’s is more than just a place to go for good food, good prices and good service. It’s the place to go to be comfortable, appreciated and most of all well-taken care of. more

Sammy's Tap & Grill- Simply the Best! 5/14/2012

I have been going to Sammy's for 10 years. It is simply the best sports bar/restaurant in town. The food is incredible. Best Ribs in town! TV's at every glance and always locked into the latest sports event and not CNN or other meaningless channels not related to sports. Wolfpack fans, Sammys is Wolfpack central. Here is to another 10 great years for Sammy's Tap & Grill. more

Best Sports Bar in Town 2/13/2012

If you haven't been to Sammy's, I highly recommend it. Good Food, Cold Beer, Great Prices... Sammy's is by far my favorite place to watch a game in Raleigh. There are TVs everywhere so I can see multiple games going on at once. I've tried a lot of other places and this is without a doubt the easiest place to watch any game I want. The food is GREAT. I love the Ribs. The wings (and boneless wings) are cheap everyday, even on game days. I've really never had anything I didn't enjoy from the menu...and I've had quite a few different items. Sammy's is located right near NC State's campus, but isn't overrun by college kids. The waitstaff, on the otherhand, is hot college chicks and they're always friendly and enjoyable. Check it out! more

Burgers 2/2/2012

Loved the burgers, they were handpattied and the bacon was delicious. The fried were crisp and fresh and the beer is under 3 bucks everynight. Thumbs up! more

Eh Not Impressed - Not Inspired - Wasted Money 1/24/2011

Beer specials never go below 2.50 a pint although many ale houses do, wing specials never get to .25 a wing and aren't cooked with the sauce (it was piled on afterward) , waitress was rude the entire time and impossible to deal with (whatever happened to working for tips), people are crowded and knocking you over in your chair while sitting at a table, old timers are picking fights when cheers are made for the winning team, the bar flies are regularly disgusting, restrooms are nasty, volume of surround sound flat screens is so loud its distorted, there must have been 600-1000 people crammed into the place, I have enjoyed Sammy's on and off since 2004 but do not recommend going there. more

SAMMY'S IS THE NUMBER ONE PLACE TO GO!!! 11/24/2010

Friendly staff and friendly prices make for a winning combination at Sammy's! The food is excellent and the Beer is always cold. If you like ""wings"" as much as I do, there is NOBODY that does them better than the Sammy's crew. For a great meal at a great price, head to Sammy's! more

Sammy's is awesome 6/7/2010

Awesome Pros: Service is great! Tons of TVs and Beer! Best wings in the more

Love Sammy's!!! 6/1/2010

Sammy's is an NC State institution. Whether you're meeting to watch the big game, having a drink after work, or finishing a round at the Lonnie Poole golf course, Sammy's is the place to go. Always a great atmosphere for watching NC State away games, obviously! And Sammy is always there to greet you with a smile and make sure you're taken care of. Pros: Patio seating, surplus of TVs, great service and staff more

Great beer, great service 5/26/2010

I used to go to Sammy's every week while at NC State, and the smoking ban has made the place even better. I like the new outside. Plenty of TV's and lots of sports to watch We had a party last weekend for 30 people, and the management provided us with everything we had asked for. Our servers were great, very friendly, our beer glasses were hardly ever empty and we always had enough food. The prices were very reasonable and I would definitely recommend having any special occasion at Sammy's. Pros: Great service, good beer selection, great food more

Raleigh's best sports bar 5/21/2010

I've been going since Sammy's opened, over nine years now, and I'm there most days of the week. If you like sports, well, this is your place. With the multitude of big screen HD TVs and the ability to see any game or event you want, you'll feel right at home. They have wonderful and friendly bar service, and the wait staff is great. And most times you'll see Sammy, always with a smile for everyone. You know you're in the right place when you see the owner and the excellent managers running food, busing tables, and generally doing whatever needs to be done for the best customer experience every time you're there. As an added bonus, by far the best wings in town! And lots of different sauces. Get 'em extra crispy! The food is affordable, consistently great, and the service is fast. The bartenders are pros across the board, and good fun to chat with. Drink specials daily, great beer selection, and a hell of a lot of fun. And don't forget trivia nights with the loquacious Willie Wright, host extraordinaire. What's not to like! Pros: excellent bar fare, great friendly staff, fantastic deck more

Best Sports Bar in Raleigh by FAR 5/21/2010

Sammy's is awesome. The atmosphere for big games is the best in Raleigh (especially if you are an NC State fan or Pittsburgh Steelers fan). They have a million flat screen tvs (even some right at your table) and a huge outdoor patio. They also have tons of arcade games and NTN on several TVs. Not to mention electronic darts, cornhole on some nights, and skeeball! Great food and excellent beer specials and the staff is always polite and helpful. I've never had a bad experience when I've been up there and highly recommend it for any sports fan or really for anyone who just likes to have a good time! Pros: Great Sports Atmosphere, Huge Patio Cons: None! more

Worst service EVER 3/22/2009

Our first server never came to the table to ask us if we needed anything....we had to get our own ashtray which was full and we had to eventually ask her for a clean one...the second server was a little better but 10 minutes before last call we ordered drinks and only one of them was brought to the table and we were told the second one was coming but there was an upset customer at the bar....we finally went to the bar to get our own drinks and were told it was 2:05 when it was actually 2:58. they need more attentive servers and they need to put their clock on the right time. I wont go there again. Pros: no pros Cons: horrible service more

Typical sports bar, good location 2/7/2009

Good wings, OK beer specials, sometimes the waitresses are kind of slow, but considering it's always pretty busy they do a fine job\r \r Great place to watch sports, lots of TV's, really cool online juke box, lots of seating--inside and outside\r \r Especially nice since they remodeled. Pros: Lots of seating, lots of TV's, close to campus Cons: Sometimes gets really crowded and as a result the service gets really slow. more

Cold beer, Hot wait staff 1/30/2009

My family was in town recently. We were in the campus area and decided to get lunch. We stopped at Sammy's because they have the ability to handle larger groups. All 15 of us sat in the new patio area. There was plenty of room to stretch out. We had one waitress to handle all of our requests. She did not mess up any of our orders and kept the beer flowing! The food was hot and arrived quickly. We got there about 1:00 in the afternoon and were having such a good time we didn't leave until 2:00 AM! What a great place atmosphere!!! Thanks guys, you are the best! Pros: Cold beer and hot food more

THE ABSOLUTE BEST IN THE AREA! 8/20/2008

So that everyone knows, this is one of the best places to get a drink or have some food around NC State. It is always busy and you can see why! There are TV's all over the place, the music is loud enough to hear over the loud drinkers next to you, and students can still come in with their families. The food is really great! The wings take about 15 minutes too cook, but that is because they make them to order. The prices are the lowest you are going to find in a 50 mile radius and you still get enough to fill you up no matter what you order. The drinks are some of the best priced in the area. The bartenders are fast even when the bar is wrapped and people are standing everywhere. In regards to the service, it is as good as can be expected when you work in a place as busy as Sammy's is. They run all over getting everyone what they need and they are always fun and in a good mood. Sometimes they don't come over to the table right away, but that has only ever happened to me when they have been super busy and it seems like everyone came in and sat down all at once. In regards to the person who complained about Sammy being there to drink on his birthday, grow up and stop hating. Doesn't that say a lot about a place when the owner of a bar chooses to come to his own bar and hang out there instead of going someplace else? It thought it was great, and since you have such an issue with him being drunk on his birthday, lets see you not drink on yours. Prude! Anyway, Sammy's is the best place around NC State, for students, athletes, coaches, staff, parents, and anyone else who wants to go to a great bar with awsome food, cool waitresses, attentive bartenders, cold drinks and doesn't want to go broke doing it! Pros: BEST IN THE AREA - HANDS DOWN! Cons: Parking can be tough sometimes more

SAMMY'S Birthday who cares about the Customers 8/5/2008

I went with a couple of my friend to Sammy's that place sucked you would think that the way the view looked from Avent Ferry Rd that it would be a good atmosphere but, i think not how do you have music on with live music , an sports volume up loud it's too much going on an the servers are so worried about how they look more than how the customer is. Then Sammy kept walking right past us drunk, i think we sat down an no one came to ask us about our order for 20-30 minutes bad customer service. When we finally ordered, we got wings that had a glaze of sauce on them. It's like they took a brush or spray bottle an squirted once. I wasn't even hungry anymore then the server tried to tell me i had to pay for some non sauced cold wings. I told her you better add it to your boss TAB. She left an then didn't return for another 15 minutes on top of that no refills, no silverware, yeah NO TIP. When she finally stop flirting with some other table i got my check an left. I will never ever go back to Sammy Tap & Grill Pros: TV, College Bar Cons: Service, Customer Service, Food , an Atmosphere more

dont go if your in a hurry! 5/13/2008

my bf and and i go a couple nights out the week cuz its close to home and work. the food and drinks are great. but when we go and sit down it takes the staff at least 15mins to notice that were there. the bartenders walk like zombies (so slow)...love the place but the waitress's need to wake up and stop actin like ding-dongs and pay attention. Pros: cheap, stays open late Cons: slow service!(terrible)!!!!! more

Fantastic Deck, Fun Hang out, good prices 9/12/2006

I discovered Sammy's when I moved to Avent Ferry Road to be close to my job. It is awesome. The food is much better than you're average bar food. The wings are great & the quesadillas are one of my favorites. I had an excellent server who was knowledgable and fast with my drink order & food. I play trivia there on Tuesday nights with a group of friends & we have a blast. The bartenders are very polite and seem to work together to get the drinks out quickly. I also ordered from Raleigh Take-out and the order was hot & the exact thing I ordered so I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about. I believe this place has been around for more than five years and that says a lot for a restaurant these days. I look forward to hanging out at Sammy's for years to come. The deck is an awesome place to go to if you're with a large group or small. Go State! Pros: Great food, service & prices more
