LUCKY TO GET IN 11/22/2002

FOOD AND SERVICE ARE GREAT.THE ONLY DOWNFALL IS THAT YOU NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS A MONTH AHEAD OF TIME! Pros: FOOD, ENVIROMENT Cons: AVAILABILITY more

Propose Here! 11/11/2002

If you are going to pop the question, this is the place! The hunting lodge atmosphere provides a romantic backdrop, and the food is truly a culinary treat. We went for our anniversary, and even my picky husband was willing to shed his inhibitions to try the unique offerings on the menu. The wine list is superb, and the staff attentive. I highly recommend it. Pros: Unique food, professional staff, Amazing Presentation Cons: Expensive more

Arguably The Best In The City 10/31/2002

This place has amazing food. expensive but absolutely worth it. Accomodating and unassuming service. Thoughtful staff - told them I had an anniversary and they automatically gave us the table in front of the fire, best table in the house - without asking. Rustic yet romantic. Not an LA scene. Can't say enough good things about this place. more

Exquisite and classy in its way... 8/28/2002

this place has a wonderful atmosphere, a fabulous selection of game, meats, and seafood on the menu. Don't ask for salt like my friend 36 hours out of the IronMan (3rd place finish!) ~because they WILL SCOWL, but it's wonderful. Pros: Menu Selections, Wine Selections, Atmosphere Cons: bit of a drive, Expensive more

mooseheads and candlelight 8/24/2002

somehow i thought the dead animal busts mounted on the walls would be distracting, but the candlelit, rustic ambience was the perfect setting for our anniversary dinner. the food was outstanding (a great place for game-lovers) and the service was impeccable. i can't wait to go back. more

Best 8/8/2002

You may not like the heads of animals decorated on the walls at this restaurant (there were so many). One thing I reget is I ate ""rabbit"" meat. That was really tasty, but I felt guilty when I saw the tiny head of a rabbit right at the corner of the restaurant when I was leaving. Pros: at-home atmosphere Cons: need self-parking more

Amazing food without the 'tude. 7/19/2002

Especially now that they have restarted their weekend brunches (have the rabbit hash), SPL is a must for every carnivore near Los Angeles. The jaunt up the canyons feels like a little get-away to the best tasting dishes. The game dishes are delicious, not "gamey" and the atmosphere is fanTASTICly rustic/hunting lodge. Get on the mailing list so that you don't miss out on the event-driven dinners (Halloween is a lot of fun). Unless you are a vegetarian, there is no excuse to miss out on this amazing place. Pros: atmosphere, food, service Cons: distance more

Great food 6/26/2002

This is a very special place. Set up in the Mountains, it follows a lodge decor that is very relaxing and romantic. There is a great big fire place in the main room, a library on the second floor and a nice terrace on the top floor, which is great for private parties. Pros: atmosphere, romantic, food Cons: far away more

Simply amazing 6/21/2002

A wonderful atmosphere and food that you'll talk about for days, Saddle Peak is simply enchanting. It is perhaps California's finest restaurant. The chef is an artist, the service is efficient and unobtrusive and the setting makes you feel as though you're in an exclusive club high in the mountains. Don't expect a bargain, but expect a great evening. Warning, if you're a vegetarian or like animals so much that a few stuffed heads bother you, stay away. Pros: Dynamite food, Beautiful setting Cons: Expensive, Can be crowded more

So good 6/12/2002

This is probably the best food I have had in California. The menu was small but there was enough options from steak, fresh fish, buffalo to pasta. The wine list was impressive and the service was very good. The drive to the restaurant is a beautiful one. Nice and romantic. more

Rustic Elegance 5/20/2002

Saddle Peak Lodge is a wonderful spot for lunch or dinner. I took my boyfriend here for his 40th birthday. We drank and stuffed ourselves silly - couldn't hold back because everything was so delicious. The menu has a lot of venison type dishes which fit in perfectly with the woodsy decor. There are a number of small rooms in the restaurant which make for an intimate setting. The outdoor patio is very nice too. This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. I've also eaten there for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful meal. more
