Best

For us non-celebrities who don?t want to wait in line two hours to get into a dance club, M Lounge above Republic restaurant is a great place to go. It maintains an upscale, chic ...

Worst

Went out on a saturday night to celebrate my buddy's bday and got a table. There were 6 of us to begin wtih and were expecting a couple other people to join us later,so we started...

Nice place, however disappointing food and service 1/19/2008

Looking to make reservations at a restaurant and nightclub for a large group I figured Republic would be a good choice. However, it later turned out this wasn't the case. I made dinner reservations at 8:30pm and it took about 20 minutes to seat my party. We ordered a 3 course pre-fix menu ($55 per person). It took 50 minutes just for the first course (salad) to come out! I asked the waiter what was taking so long and he said "the food was coming out." Well it never did so I went directly to the manager and asked him what was taking so long. He apologized and later came to my table to comp a round of drinks. Although that was a nice gesture it didn't make up for the fact that we only began to eat at 10pm for an 8:30pm reservation. The food was okay, but not great for the price. At about 12pm they began to clear the tables (we got to keep ours) and the place turned into a nightclub. The place was okay as a nightclub, but not the greatest spot. They're definitely much better places in LA as far as nightclubs go. Republic is definitely a beautiful restaurant, however for such an upscale and expensive place you would figure the food and service would be comparable. Pros: Beautiful space Cons: Service more

There's way better places with less hassle and friendlier people. 12/8/2007

How can I say this succintly... Long, long unnecessary waiting outside and the place isn't good enough to warrant it. Phony guest lists (they don't honor them). Overpriced water - try over $10 for a bottle. Bad drinks with inconsistent prices. Attitude from the bouncers, doormen and bartenders. If I wasn't going there for the birthday of a close friend, I'd have left before I got in. Way better places in Hollywood that will not give you half attitude. Maybe this is what you expect at 21 and it makes the place feel special but that's old for me now. I like friendly people. more

One of the best diningrooms in Los Angeles, and excellent food too 12/5/2007

Republic is a magnificent restuarant, even with the silly wine cellar complete with wannabe acrobats(Management should rather keep that show for Vegas). The food is delicious, magnificently presented, and in adequate portions. Definately the BEST mac & cheese in California! Winelist is pricey and the staff can be pretentious. The hostesses can be annoying about reservation times, but ignore them and enjoy the evening! Pros: Great setting Cons: Overly pretentious hostesses / front desk more

worth trying once. 11/12/2007

Went here for a birthday party - i had the chance to experience the bar, dining and the lounge - Had dinner reservations which were well accomodated - @ the bar - there were available seats at the bar around 9 pm - so we took a seat - the bartender was attentive- by 9:10 the lobby area was swarming with random guys- there were a group of guys that REEKED of w33d - and even asked us where he can score some - 3 drinks = $38.00 @ dining - the service was pretty quick - by the later part of the night - they close off the curtain between the bar and the dining area - and bouncers stand by there - to keep from the distraction of the growing bar crowd - which is great - the bread / cornbread is good. we ordered steaks - and they were cooked perfectly. their infamous macaroni which they croon over - were okay- but nothing THAT fantastic the music was LOUD - its hard to keep a conversation going - but this may be because of the dj was prepping for the lounge / club - so the volume was increasing what is was REALLY Impressed with however, was - the manager will walk around and fold your napkin if you've stepped away from your table so the night grew - and their staff were very quick in emptying the exchanging the tables with large white lounge couches + the music / vibe/ ambiance was great the crowd was very diverse - although i must admit - it was predominately armenians / perisans - - so, this is a HUGE con for me. ... THERE WERE SOOO MANY MINORS. literally a bunch of high school kids waiting around the bathrooms - getting dolled up and hitting the dance floor with drinks in hand. maybe they came for dining and stayed- but my good time on a night out - does not include drunk little teenagers trying to talk up on each other- or myself. i really hope the next time i go the management would have taken care of this all in all - it was an okay time - good place to go to experience the upper class LA and maybe even a first date. Pros: ambience, food Cons: drunk minors, loud music. more

Slow Service + Average Overpriced Food = Miserable Night Out 10/22/2007

Our 9:15 dinner reservation had us seated at 10, and we didn't see an entree until 11:10 PM! The service (on a set menu no less) was horrible, and only made worse by a DJ cranking tunes from the corner. When I'm still on the salad course (that I've waited a half hour for), and you've yet to convert your crappy restaurant into a club, I don't need to be going deaf from DJ mashups, and would much prefer to actually be able to converse with the people that I'm dining with. Fortunately they combine their crappy service with average to sub-par food. If you're going for drinks or to dance, it's a cool room with interesting decor. I'd just advise you to eat somewhere else beforehand. I'm putting 1 star here since that is the lowest Citysearch goes, but it really deserves more like negative 3. Pros: Side dishes (mashed potatoes/creamed spinnach) were the only thing worth eating Cons: Service, price, atmosphere, entrees, dessert (shall I go on) more

Great presentation 10/15/2007

This place has a very cool lounge where the people watching can help pass by the time it takes to get seated. The bartenders were nice and made very yummy drinks. The presentation of food was actually nicer than some of the pricer restaurants I've dined at, and the service was 9/10. The club afterwards made the night though! The maitre d' was more than happy to get us in and we had a blast! When making a reservation, request to sit in the main room (unless you have a larger group), because the back room doesn't have as good a feel. more

Birthday Disaster! 10/9/2007

Service was horrible! Not only did they not have the reservation that I set 3 weeks in advance, but they didn't have my guest list and they made us wait in line for 30 minutes because they needed to set up an area to accommodate us. This is why I made reservations! We didn't even end up in the cabana area that the promoter had suggested. The promotional staff was rude and the main chick got an attitude with me (Me, the chick witht he credit card). Nobody seemed in control or polite the entire night until some other promoter guy decided to step in when he saw the main chick getting an attitude. How can someone with such poor customer service skills stand at the front entrance and greet the guests? I wasn't the only one that was fed up with her nonsense, there was another chick waiting outside that was being completely ignored even when there was NO LINE! What was the main chick getting paid for? Oh, right, to stand around and talk to the other promoters. I was extremely disappointed and would not recommend anyone to put up with this promotional staff. It's not even Hollywood! Pros: Nice bathrooms and atmosphere Cons: Everthing but the bathrooms and atmosphere more

Loved it! Great Atmosphere, excellent service, tasty food 9/12/2007

LEAD IN: My husband and I went here for a double celebration...our first night living in LA and our 2 month wedding anniversary. We had a reservation for 7:30pm and we were one of only 2 tables ...this concerned us, but it did pick up closer to 10:30 with people eating and lounging. Being the only ones in there actually turned out to be a nice touch for our type of outing as it made it feel like it was reserved privately for us. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: The waitress sat us hext to the fireplace which was nice and had a great view of the 2 story wine wall, complete with "wine angel" in a harness to retrieve the bottles (so cool!) We ordered a bottle of champagne and told her we were in no hurry to eat or leave, which she was very accomodating to. FOOD:We just eased our way through the champagne, then apps. then dinner. For apps we had crab cakes which were good, but not amazing, then for dinner we both had the "filet mignon with bone in" (waitress recommended) and it was FOR SURE the BEST BEEF I have ever eaten in my life! We each ordered a side, I had the "famous mac and cheese" and my hubby had the mushrooms...but both servings were large enough to share, next time we would just get one side. The "famous mac and cheese" was soo good and soo rich...apparently it is made with real trouffle oil. Between appetizers and dinner they also served homebaked varietys of bread, and a tuna sushi plate complementary. OTHER NOTES: It does turn into a lounge at night complete with line up and bouncers and was pretty full when we left at 10:45pm. Bouncers stood in the street to hail us a cab which I thought was a nice touch Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: nothing really (we cabbed though so not sure about parking) more

Decent but overpriced food...great lounge..snooty service 8/9/2007

I can justify the price when the food exceeds my expectations however I cant say this about Republic. The food was good but I've honestly had much better so I cant say it was worth it. We had a party of 8 so they forced us to order from a limited menu which kind of put a damper on our exprience as well. The server was extremely condescending and snooty. Our tab was over $1100 not including tip and you would think he would have provided better service. The lounge upstairs is okay but the club outside is fun (the downside is everyone smokes in the club since it is technically outside) The drinks are strong and the music was good. Next time we will skip dinner and go straight to the lounge. Pros: Ambience, Music, Good Drinks Cons: Overpriced average quality food, annoying servers more

Almost as cool as partying at Banana Republic 7/9/2007

I hear the food is awesome here but we did not eat but rather we went to the Club on a Thursday Night and it was pretty bootsy. I thought the people at the door were robots . . . "Hello. Are you on the list? No. Please insert 10 dollars . . . Are you on the list? No. Please insert 10 dollars . . . Are you on the list? No. Please insert 10 dollars." Kinda funny actually. Once inside, I thought I walked in right after a fire drill happened because the place was amazingly empty at 10:45. The decor was pretty standard. The DJ was good but not great. I did see one guy pull a major faux pas. He ordered a Vodka RedBull without getting the sugar-free RedBull. That is 100+ extra calories right there Jabba the Hut. What a maroon! What a dolt! If there had been any hot girls there, they would not have been talking this rookie. Overall, it was boring here but maybe we were here on a slow night. Pros: Cool Restaurant, Good Location, fair price for drinks Cons: Deserted, Kinda Boring, Sold out of Chinos more

good time 6/29/2007

i went here for a party with friends and had a really good time. the drinks were good and so was the crowd. coming from ny the crowds out here and the clubs were not the best i have seen but this one did a good job. i look forward to going back again. there service was also very good for a big club. two thumbs up guys. Pros: valet Cons: great drinks more

A Good Place to Waste Your Trust Fund Money 6/24/2007

Haughty, crowded, and overpriced, this is one of the worst bar/clubs I've ever been to. The staff seemed to go out of its way to be exceptionally rude. Even though we were on the guest list, we were forced to wait outside for almost an hour. To their credit though, we were told more by more than one staff member that we'd be let in right away for $20 a person. Bring pads and a helmet, cause you can expect to get pushed and nudged and soaked with Apple-tinis and Diet-Red-Bull-Vodkas. Pros: Lots of Fire Exits? Cons: Rude Service, Rude Patrons, Overpriced Drinks more

Amazing food 6/13/2007

Dinner at this place is something to experience. Service was so so, but if you're from LA, you should be used to it by now in the city full of servers it seems that it's impossible to food good ones. But the food, is trully good. In the party of 5 we were all trully impressed with appetizers. You have to try pork sliders, wow they were out of this world. The steak was cooked perfectly, Scampy over green beans was a fresh touch. Pros: uncomfotable chairs, service Cons: food, ambience more

BEST burger and fries... 5/31/2007

I've only been here once and had the Kobe burger w/Maytag blue cheese and truffle scented fries--oh my gawd...INCREDIBLE! If the rest of their food is even close to being this magnificent then this is a great restaurant. The decor was interesting and it was filled with beautiful people but frankly, it didn't look like anyone was having any fun, so, not such a great atmosphere. We did enjoy the winefairy as well--very cool. I would definitely eat here again for the food but as I said, not much of a vibe... Good service too. Pros: food, service, decor Cons: atmosphere, pricey more

B E A Utiful Place, AWESOME SERVICE / What A beer list!!! 4/28/2007

I will make this quick. AMAZING. If you want to go some place and actually get served. This is your place. The food was great, the cocktail were wonderful and the BEER LIST!!!! Great Great beers. Try the 16 Unibroug. YUMMY Pros: SERVICE, FOOD , BEER List Cons: The night was over more

Great Food, Great Service 4/3/2007

The food is great here. Went this past Saturday and had a great time. It was a group of four of us and the food was great and so was the service. There was a little bit of a wait for our table but the meal was great. We all went to the club after dinner and had an ok time. The music was not great and the upstairs was unbearably hot. The crowd was ok but nothing spectacular. The drinks were a little over-priced and the martinis served in plastic glasses??? I will definitely be going back to the restaurant but not rushing back to the club. It?s worth checking out though. Pros: Great Food, service and awesome desserts Cons: Club is not as impressive as the restaurant more

Good Restaurant, Horrible Club 4/3/2007

I have been to Republic several times for dinner and the food is always good. It is a little pricey but overall a fun experience. The club on the other hand is horrible. Over priced drinks served in plastic cups is an embarassment. The crowd in typical hollywood fashion has gotten worse and worse over the months but they still have a pretty kick asss DJ outside. The crowd is far from great but it is an ok place to go if you generally have trouble getting into clubs. There is no cover there also which is a plus although you may have to grease the door staff to get in unless you are a group of girls. Pros: Food & Service Cons: Crowd at the club and price of drinks more

Flawless 3/31/2007

I had never been to the Republic before, but was taking a big chance by spending the last night of my parent's first visit to LA there. Flawless! The evening was flawless! I just love taking a chance with an unknow restaurant or movie and it paying off. I can't say enough how smooth everything was. I love the way the table was dressed(little "republic" ribbons, beautiful waterglasses). I was excited but nervous. Then our waiter came. Charley was his name(or charlie), he was cute, and he was very polite. "yes maam", "yes sir", something you don't hear too much in LA anymore, it kind of makes you uncomfortable, but it also reminds you that YOU ARE IMPORTANT here. I just LOVE this place! anyway, I had the Ostrich(Charlie talked me into it), I'm so glad he did. Absolutely wonderful, tender, and rich, like a steak...kinda. my dad had the sea bass with... i think lentils(whatever they are, they were tasty). mom had NY Strip.......needless to say I tried everybody's food. Just seamless, we ordered a wine Charlie told us about called Gougenheim, it was a malbec, I don't normally like Malbecs but wow, if it wasn't tasty. ...I'm even going to buy a few bottles for myself , he he. My dad couldn't stop talking about Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore sitting 2 tables over from us. I never knew he was a Charlie's Angels fan. Desert was just great, I had Chocolate Souffle Cake with vanilla ice cream.....it's funny, charlie described it as "oh so yum". I thought he was being sarcastic, but he paired it with Honig Desert wine....he was right, "oh so yum". I love restaurants and money is no object-- My evening at the Republic was memorable because I had a flawless evening with my parents, flawless food, and I Will be returning. I just want everyone to know. long review? ......go to the republic and tell me that you don't want to rave as well. .....one more time, FLAWLESS! more

Excellent service! Ben is the best waiter in LA. Food is always good 3/20/2007

My husband and I have been to Republic now 4 times and still love it! We have always had a wonderful experience. My husband loves the Filet it is very tender and I love their fish dishes. The first time we went with friends and we were so impressed with the service. The menu has a wonderful variety of entrees and appetizers to choose from. Our waiter Ben was so outstanding that we always ask for him when we go back. The decor is trendy but elegant. You can either dress up or be upscale casual. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: great service Cons: valet parking is high more

Idiot 3/11/2007

Bottles are $300 there, not $250. Plus if you had 14 people you would have had to buy at least 3 bottles. So thats $900. Theres no way their going to let in 14 people if you buy just one bottle. You guys were probably dressed like trash too. Can't have that. more
