Great Food Bad Service 8/7/2011

The food is great! but the service is super bad. The bathroom is not clean, so if you visit use the bathroom at home. Both service and management to bad ""No Customer Service."" It is clear that people do not like to work there. more

Fish every which way 5/24/2011

I think I have tried almost everything on the menu! Fish Tacos, Cajun style, shrimp....you name it all good! Extremely laid back atmosphere. Can come straight from the beach and not worry about appearances, but enjoy a great meal. Still a cool place in Malibu to hang out! more

Great Atmosphere; great Meal 11/19/2009

The atmosphere is loads of fun, especially for ocean-going types, casual but clever. The food is prepared fresh. Nobody makes as incredible cole slaw - I toss most other types, but I eat all of this! The Reel Potatoes are worth going for alone, but I usually get half rice and half potatoes because they are both great. the portions are large. I have never had a bad meal there, ever. Pros: Big selection of fish, delicious side dishes Cons: Kinda hard to find parking most days more

BE CARE FULL 5/20/2009

OUT SIDE PATIO BE CAREFULL THIS PLACE IS NOT CLEAN . THE REST ROOMS HAVE A ODER THAT GOES THUR THE PLACE \r THE MANAGMENT CAN BE VERY NASTY Pros: GOOD FISH Cons: THE MANAGMENT more

CAJUN STYLE 5/18/2009

Sea Bass Salmon Mahi Mahi ALL SO GOOD WHEN IT'S CAJUN STYLE. Very good food. I visit this place twice a month if not more. Pros: FRESHNESS Cons: LOCATION more

Beautiful Food, Beautiful People 5/12/2009

I dont eat fried foods, the mahi mahi sandwich was as good as anything I have ever had. I have been eating fresh seafood from the north sea to south east asia and this place is as good as any. I wont eat coleslaw anywhere else, but there's is the greatest. Be careful crossing the highway if you park across the street Pros: Fresh Fresh Fresh Cons: .Be careful crossing over Pacific Coast Highway more

Variety of Fresh Fish 3/25/2009

Its in beautiful Malibu , with a cosy atmosphere. outdoor tables also. Loved this place normally it's difficult to find Monkfish. They have it here and its cooked to perfection. I had Mahi Mahi grilled fish sandwich and it was awsome .My husband had the monkfish. They also have giant skin on potatoes fries\r and the clam chowder that was to die for.Love this place and when in the area I will be back. Pros: Best casual fresh fish Restaurant Cons: the rice was okay more

Great, Funky, Crazy, Classic Hole-in-the-Wall. Oh, and Good Seafood too 8/29/2008

This is probably one of the more passed by restaurants that line the Malibu coast, and that probably has something to do with it's sketchy exterior and rough location next to a skeezy motel. But, listen and listen well, this place is really pretty fantastic. Obviously, it's not upscale dining. Nay, it has kept to it's roots when Malibu was just a blip on the map and cows instead of celebs were roaming the seaside cliffs. It's funky, vintage, and one of the best little places around. So, be brave, ignore the sketchy exterior, and try it! more

Fun and funky! Just my style. 5/12/2008

This spot was a great find on our way to a conference up in the mountains. We were starved and we weren't disappointed. I had the shrimp omelet and could not have asked for anything better (except maybe a slightly lower price). There was plenty of delicately seasoned shrimp hiding in a fluffy omelet stuffed with all kinds of my favorite goodies, a tossed salad and rice. We sat outside since it was a gorgeous day. Probably could have used a little stronger hand with the tidying but the atmosphere was fresh and funky and definitely screamed Malibu California to a homesick transplant. more

Probably the Worst Fish Restaurant I have ever been to. 4/26/2008

First of all, I have been to places like this all over the country. The difference between this small (non-chain) fish eatery and other is:\r \r 1. This restaurant is not clean. (look in the kitchen, patio and on the tables)\r 2.They can't even make fried fish right\r 3. The employees are simply rude.\r \r They were great about 10 years ago and the last couple visits have shown how a place could really go downhill. Too bad!! more

Don't order the fish tacos! 4/20/2008

The fish tacos were basically unseasoned tuna, lettuce and a bit of cheese. They were really unpleasant and bland. The grilled fish looked pretty good. I think tacos are not their thing. I was absolutely starving, and left hungry rather than finish \r my tacos. Pros: Nice ocean view Cons: Food and price more

Fresh Fish done right - Casual Self Serve 3/25/2008

For the variety of fresh fish and the great side dishes - I'm never disappointed. You tell them how you like it and what you want with it (love the coleslaw, potatoes and the rice) It's casual, you have to go pick up the dishes and take it back to your table. But it's a friendly, rustic atmosphere with honest prices for fresh fish. Great for lunch or dinner. Dinner during the week is easier - less crowded. Always look forward to their chalk board words for the day. Found both locations pretty consistent. Pros: Good Eats in Casual / Rustic Atmosphere Cons: Access to Malibu location on busy PCH - into or out of Valet Parking more

Best after beach stop 2/6/2008

Inexpensive fresh seafood, well prepared and wide selection. Low key dive surf shack atmosphere with a cozy fireplace and well worn picnic benches. Pros: Great food, great price Cons: Those benches are not the most comfortable seating in the world more

casual atmosphere & good seafood 11/30/2007

Reel is ia great place to go if you want to be by the beach. it has an outside terrace where you can eat or there are tables inside. the seafood is fresh and you can pick out what fish you want and they cood it to order. they offer a variety of side dishes and appeteziers. It is a very casual atmosphere and a lot of fun to go to in the summer so that you can eat outside in the sunshine. Pros: fresh seafood, casual atmosphere Cons: sometimes there is a long wait more

Great Fish, Bad Rice! 10/21/2007

I've been going to the Reel in since I was 21, now I'm 41. The food has always been great and the fish very fresh. The fried food has also been very good since I first went. Usually, I have the broiled red snapper and a couple sides or oysters on the half shell, something like that. I recommend ordering anything broiled or blackened, but at all costs, avoiding anything fried, including calamari, any fish and shrimp. Usually these fried items are way overcooked and not fresh at all. Also avoid the rice. The rice stinks and they give way too much. The sides are drive through restaurant fare, basically, so don't expect alot. Most people come for the fish and the atmosphere. Pros: Very fresh fish, relaxing atmosphere Cons: Terrible fried food, terrible sides more

Pretty decent fish in a shack like atmosphere 6/22/2007

Okay, my boyfriend loves the fish tacos here and was raving about them. When I took a bite out of mine, I HATED it. They use very fish tuna. The fresh lettuce and cheese are great, but yuck on that kind of fish. It is very affordable at only $3.50 for a large fish taco. The first time I ate here, I also ordered the calamari. It was literally the WORST calamari either of us had ever eaten. It was disgusting. I never wanted to go back, but like I said, my boyfriend loves the fish tacos so I gave it one more try. This time I went with the grilled talapia and I will say that I enjoyed it. The french fries were good and the tarter sauce is very flavorful. I am going to try the grilled shrimp next time I am there. The coleslaw is just fare, but stick with this instead of the sad side salad. Overall, you can find something you like on the menu just stay clear of the calamari. Pros: fish was pretty good, tarter sauce is great Cons: worst calamari ever, definitely not for a romantic date more

Horrible Horrible 5/16/2007

Ordered the Fish and Chips with Slaw........Shrimp Scampi, Cajun rice, Steamed Veggies, and Red Fish Chowder. The Fish was insulting to the palate. The Shrimp in the Scampi ran back to Italy to tell Uncle Carmine how badly a classic Italian dish was treated. The Cajun in the rice was the only right.....it was spelled correctly. The steamed veggies were cooked perfect.ly......and the slaw wasn't half bad. The Red Fish Chowder was red from embarrassment......and the roll that came with the Chowder was ice cold. If that was Chowder.........I am moving back to San Francisco or Maine.\r \r I remembered this place from my childhood........I must be demented from old age. I don't remember it being horrible........ My family will never trust me again to pick out a restaurant. more

Great seafood and great prices 3/10/2007

This is a Malibu staple that can't be missed. If you are craving fresh seafood, this is the place to go. The interior is filled with bench picnic tables giving it some great atmosphere not often found at other Malibu restaurants and the seafood is fresh and abundant. This is a self serve place, so if you are looking for a nice sit down resturant where you will be waited on this is not the place to go. Order your food at the window and grab a table. There is often a line to order food especially at peak hours, but your food arrives very quickly once ordered. While the beer costs a little more than at Neptune's Net, the seafood is a little cheaper and much tastier. You won't be dissapointed. more

LONG LINES AND SUB PAR FOOD 8/11/2006

I almost lost it in this place. So at 4pm the line was only half way wrapped around the restaurant, which seemed not bad. Half hour later I was still in line and starving when I finally got up to the counter. I tried to order crab cakes, and at 4:30 pm on a Saturday, they seemed to have fun out of crab cakes!! So I got fish tacos but wanted to get the healthy sides in stead being salad and veggies, both which coast about $2 extra each. So two fish tacos plate coast $18 and it sucked. You want good cheap fish, goto Wahoo's. I will never go back here, and it should be avoided at all costs. Cons: Long wait, bad food more

Better than Neptune's Net 8/6/2006

First time trying it...the Reel Inn exceeded my expectations. Food is much better value than at competitor Neptunes Net which is super far down the PCH, where $17 gets you a big basket of fries and only a little fish.\r \r Ordered the fish taco entree...enough food for me and my bf to share. Delicious, satisfying soft fish tacos with great fries, coleslaw and cajun rice for only $11! Also tried the fried shrimp which were great if a little pricy. Beer was cold, slightly more expensive than Neptunes Net.\r Only drawback was that line to order food was super long. But once ordered food arrived really quickly. I will definitely be back. Pros: lots of food, fun ambience, good value Cons: Long line to order, pay parking, too many kids more
