Best

i love this Cuban restaurant there coffee is the best also i like there food but i guess other people that have not been to Miami that often and also that they don't live here ...

Worst

Sure it may be some good cuban food, but the service given at the place is the worst! I mean there was this one waitress who would scream everytime she went from the dinning area ...

Best Restaurant on South Beach! 8/6/2008

We were lucky to have found this gem of a restaurant in South Beach. Looks like it's been there a while and that's a great thing!\r We have tried the Fried Plantains, Black Bean Soup, Cuban Sandwich(the best!), the breakfasts, Fried Pork, even the Burger and Fries. This place is excellent!! The food is always great and the prices are low, especially if you've eaten at other Miami Beach restaurants! more

I AM 32 YEARS OLD AND I REMEMBER COMING TO THIS RESTAURANT AS A LITTLE BOY AND I STILL TRAVEL TO MIAMI BEACH JUST FOR THE FOOD. THIS RESTAURANT HOLDS SPECIAL MEMORIES OF PAST FAMILY MEMBERS WHO TOOK ME HERE.\r I LOVE ALL THE FOOD,ITS HARD TO JUST PICK ONE.\r I ALWAYS START WITH THE SEAFOOD SOUP(YUMMY). more

Great Food 12/21/2006

We live in a time where we judge resturants by everything except the most important contributer, the food. This place may not look like a 5 Star resturant but the food speaks for its self. The food is as Home made as you can get. We spent the whole summer at Miami and we were tired of junk food. For a great home cooked meal I recommend this resturant. Right in the heart of South Beach, this is an awsome place to get your grub on. I also recommend Moms New York Pizza just a block away. Pros: The food, near beach, near night spots Cons: Service is Average at best more

Good. 2/19/2006

My husband and I really enjoyed Puerto Sagua. It is worn and shabby, but that's what we were looking for after 5 hours of driving and just having checked into the hotel. The door is hard to open, so it was somewhat difficult to get my husband's wheelchair in, but no one seemed to notice. I speak fluent Spanish with a very good accent, but I'm obviously American (blonde hair, green eyes). He refused to speak Spanish with me (even though his English was somewhat limited) and was rude after that. The food we had (ham croquettes, some kind of breaded chicken w/ yellow rice) was really good, but their soup is awful. They call it authentic Cuban soup of the day, but it's just chicken noodle. We'd go back, but expect a rude, unresponsive waitstaff. Pros: Great Food, Centrally Located Cons: P more

I dont know what that guy is talking about. The food here was actually really good. I had the shredded beef dish with fried plantains and ate the entire thing- it was sooo good! I was stuffed. They give a lot of food. The service could definitely be better, my iced tea sat empty throughout the majority of my meal with now waitress in sight after we were served. But isnt all service in SoBe is very slow and laid back? (Especially since the charge 18% gratuity no matter what?) But the food was definitely worth trying. Pros: food Cons: service, atmosphere more

Only a non-Cuban would like the place 6/6/2005

Are you kidding me?, this place has waiters with a bad attitude, food that never improved in 10 plus visits (I finally gave up), South Beach prices and no parking! The white rice was gummy, more alike something for sushi than what Cuban food is like, the black beans remind you ""Mom's home cooking"", as in MOM is HOME cooking, not at Puerto Sagua. The Ropa Vieja was over tomatoey, the fried plantains nowhere near ripe, though they were requested that way, even the Cuban coffee was made without sugar!!!!! When I requested they bring me another one I was told ""that's how we serve it""...maybe in Italian restaurants, but not on a Cuban place. It boggles the mind they are still in business. They would not last 1 month in The Gables, Little Havana, Kendall, Sweetwater, Westchester or The Grove Cons: Attitude, Food taste, Parking more

Best croqueta con jamon! 2/17/2005

LOVE the ham croquettes, best in Miami. Coffe is great and also there are fun walk-ins to keep an eye on. Pros: cheap, authentic cuban, near beach Cons: no parking more

Lunch Counter 11/23/2004

Sit at the lunch counter and order cafe con leche-nothing else. The coffee is excellent, but everything else.................blah! Slow service, bad food. Their fresh, potent cafe is great. Pros: cafe cubano, batidos Cons: , slow service, overpriced more

A RARE FIND!! 12/11/2002

Puerto Sagua is one of the last truly authentic cuban restaurants left in South Beach. Yes, the restaurant is old and worn, but, that adds to the charm of the place. You feel as if you have stepped back in time. The service is prompt and courteous. (Like all good restaurants should be). I really can't say enough about the food. It is flavorful and served piping hot. Have a glass of sangria with your meal and finish up with flan and a cup of Cuban coffee. You'll be talking about this place for years to come! more

Lousy Dive 8/16/2002

Okay one likes going to Dives for some great food, but here all I found was a Dive and really lousy food. I thought Larios on the Beach was Bad. more

Editorial
  • The fluorescent-lit interior might be shabby and the food is far from fancy, but Puerto Sagua has been a South Beach favorite since opening in 1962. In the morning, locals congregate at the bar...
