Precision Camera LP

I have always had a great experience with these guys. They ""carried"" me up from my basic camera equipment purchases like my first DSLR, my first studio lights, my first high end lenses and so on and so forth. That's the beauty of it all. When I didn't know anything, they did and they readily offered the knowledge. more

I love photography and wanted to get more education with my camera to get everything I possibly could from it. I bought the basic class for 2 of us and although it was a little TOO basic for us, I contacted the manager about it the next day and he was so extremely nice, and understanding. He refunded both of the class tickets back to my card with no questions. As far as the class, it was instructed well by 2 instructors that knew what they were talking about and the class it great for people that know nothing about point and shoot cameras and their settings. If you know the settings and need more experienced classes, they have them and I will be taking one of those for more detailed information. Apparently I knew more about photography than I gave myself credit for. Shop around too, they have everything you would ever need and MORE! more

Sure they may know a lot about cameras and camera equipment but they fail in people skills and customer satisfaction. I have used Precision Camera on and off for 10 years, wether it was purchasing a camera or getting prints done, but my last visit left me disgusted with the company that has lost the Austin charm. I had brought in some rolls of film to develop that I had been saving up for a while. In his digital age it is hard to find a place that can develop film or when they do, to be of quality color and crispness. I drove all the way from Leander because I trusted this company. When I was dropping off the film I was asked if I wanted the photos on a CD. I said yes and asked the prices. There was an option of low, medium, and High res. I opted for the medium res photos for $5.99 per roll of film. When I picked up the photos, they were lacking in color and there was only one CD for all the rolls of film. I complained that not all the rolls of film were mine and I needed a separate CD per roll of film. The reply I got was to burn my own copy at home. I paid a great deal of money so that I did not have to take my time to do this. I was so mad. When I got home I had discovered the pics on the cd were low res at 72 dpi, even though I paid for the medium res at 170dpi. When I called and complained to the manager he served me nothing but an attitude and stood by his employees. I was lied to and deceived and management treated me like the villan when I complained that I did not get the service I paid for. His solution again was to burn a copy myself. I will never use this company again. Even Wal-Mart would give a CD per roll of film with low, medium, and High res photos. more

I needed someone to look at my DSLR and unfortunately Austin doesn't have many options for camera repair. Precision was unable to detect/repair the full 1-2 second lag in my cameras shutter. They brought another camera over, put my lens on it and fired some shots saying it was the same as my camera. I asked to see the camera and took a few shots - the shutter was instantaneous compared to mine - experts? While this was transpiring another Precision employee was checking the companies overnight messages repeating them in mocking voices - truly unprofessional. I can only imagine that the high reviews are from the extensive number of employees that hover inside Precision Camera. Over the years I have experienced nothing but unhelpful service and blank stare employees. Seeing that the customer service has remained poor over the years leads me to believe that the attitude comes from the top. I sincerely hope that another local camera option develops soon, until then I'll handle orders and repair work online. No more Precision Camera for me. more

I was interested in a certain brand of bag and camera strap and didn't think that a local store would have them in stock. I was pretty much resigned to having to order them off the internet and pay shipping for them, when a friend told me to go to Precision and buy them there. The prices online and the prices in the store was the same -- but, score!, no need to pay for shipping charges. So I went and I got to look at bags in person and choose what I thought was the one I wanted. When I couldn't find the BR strap I asked one of the guys working there and he found one in the back room for me. I liked that the folks here let me walk around and look at things (something I enjoy doing!) and only when I looked truly lost and made eye contact with a customer service person did someone come over to me. I hate being pestered when I first walk in the door. more
