Unfortunately- I cannot recommend this spa. My very first experience was negative. There are too many day spa's that provide better service and LESS disappoint. I had booked an appointments months in advanced only to be told it could not be accommodated. more

Ups and Downs 6/29/2011

Read through 33 reviews as well as visited myself. Philipes is one of the oldest spa's in Indy and at one point it set the bar for high standards, expectations and service providers. Over the years this spa has gone down hill and lost its luster, once management changed hands the quality of services has changed drastically and the professionalism has diminished. More so it is the oldest spa and it is outdated as you can see by the wear and tear. I say this spa needs a make over and reset the bar for its professionalism, quality service and a stronger staff across the board. True clients leave but they end up going back to seasoned service providers for the simple fact they are seasoned and all the newer locations have professionals fresh out of school and lack experience. So with that said the one thing going for this spa is experience over the newer spas in the city. This spa is no longer an upscale spa due to aged decor and lack there of. Step it up Philipes and become that award winning Spa that it once was. more

Don't Understand? 6/12/2011

I have been to this spa several times. I do not understand what everyone is complaining about. I see that most of the negative comments are from years ago, so perhaps things have changed, but I always have a nice time. While I think the place could use a little updating, I understand that they are corporately owned and that may be why this is not done. Otherwise, the front desk is always polite when I am there, I see a few ladies there regularly, and I have never had any of the issues I have read from others. I have witnessed some patrons actually being quite rude and a bit out of line for issues that were completely their fault and not the staffs' fault. I read comments from others about customers becoming angry because they were late for a shorter service and the technician did not have the time to still get them in. I myself have witnessed this twice! Which can only mean that this occurs often, and that people need to be more respectful of a business that runs on a strict time schedule. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it is not fair to you, the technician, or the person behind you for them to still take you and hold up everyone else. None the less, I always have a good experience for a reasonable price and it is definitely worth checking out. more

I have been a client with Philipes for many years now. Actually, my mom and I both have been clients- and we have never been unsatisfied with our services. We have experienced everything from the waxing to the massages and everyone has always been helpful, informative and willing to accommodate whatever is asked of them. \r \r I will say that most of the negative remarks that are made below can only be taken with a grain of salt. No one has any right to be upset over an appointment that couldn't be accomodated when they arrive 15 minutes late for a 30 minute service! I don't know if some people believe that Philipes has the god-given ability to create more time- but the reality is, they do not. \r \r Philipes will do whatever they can to make your experience a relaxing and enjoyable one. The front desk is kind and will offer you a beverage the moment you sign in for an appointment. The service providers at Philipes are always there to make your experience not only relaxing, but informative as well. They are well versed in their knowledge of products and other skin-related issues, which encourages me and my mother to go back... because we know that we are in good hands. \r \r This spa has always been at the top of my list and I encourage clients- new and old- to be aware that while Philipes is there to make your morning/afternoon/evening a relaxing one... that, us, as clients, need to do our part and do the most important thing-- be there and BE ON TIME. :) \r \r Overall, I am huge fan of this spa and refer friends/family there all of the time! more

Philipes Day Spa 1/22/2011

I was behind a woman today who had arrived for her service 15 minutes late for a half hour manicure. While waiting for her to finish I heard her say she should have listened to the reviews online about ""this place."" This spa is always busy when I come in but this does not take away from their service. The woman was kindly told that they could reschedule her appointment for another day or time but that the technician would not have time to do the service and that it wouldn't be fair to her to only do a 15 minute manicure. The woman walked out very unhappy but my thoughts are that the Philipes staff did what they could to accomodate her and the people who would be after her. I have been going to Philipes for awhile now and ALWAYS have a great experience. No one should believe all of these reviews. As long as you arrive ON TIME you will be taken care of. This spa is very classy and every one goes above to make sure my experience is relaxing every time! more

Relaxing fun worth the money! 1/9/2011

I read through the previous reviews and was a little surprised--I have been coming to Philipe's for years and have always had a good experience. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I a) arrive on time b) come alone or with one friend, not a large group c) I am rather realistic about my experiences in a spa that makes the best of a small, busy space. I have only ever received massages (always fab) or facials (only one) so I can't speak to the other services, but plan on trying out more services this year. They accept SpaFinder cards which is great for my out-of-town family. I just really dig it. Again, I don't have ridiculous expectations, just a great spa I regularly visit. more

Most unsatisfactory. 12/16/2010

I booked pedicures for my friend and me at the same time. When we arrived, we learned they had moved one of us to an appointment 2 hours later, contacting neither of us about the change. I took the later appointment, spoiling our vacation "kick off". Both of us reguarly get pedicures at our neighborhood discount salon, but we had decided to splurge for the pedicure at this luxury salon. We booked Phillipe's regular pedicures, and were stunned that they did not include any scrubbing of the feet with a loofah or stone, nor did they include any foot or leg massage. (Those service cost even more!) Cuticles were pushed quickly and poorly. Polish application was messy. They put something on top of my polish for quick drying ... which I watched turn to big spots of opaque white on top of my red polish. They refused to remove/replace the polish ... just swiped over it with remover to get rid of the white opaque, leaving it even messier. Worst of all, I later called three times and was never allowed to speak to the manager. I mailed a lengthy letter of complaint, and never received the courtesy of a reply, nor any offer of apology. I prefer the skilled, polite, reasonably priced services of my regular neighborhood discount salon more

Friendly staff 8/31/2010

I recently had an incidence when I had to contact their manager for resolution. She was very helpful and quickly resolved my issue. I also bought very cute baby hats and outfits at this spa and although they are a bit pricey, they are unique and my 1.5 year old loved them! So overall I like them better now. more

Call me an idiot, but I keep going back... and EVERY TIME I have a bad experience!!!!!!!!!!! The professionals providing the services give great massages, facials, pedis, etc, but the front desk staff is a joke. They just can't seem to get it together, and they make it your fault... After waiting 30 minutes PAST my appointment time (should have been finished), I was told the computers were down and they didn't know I had an appt. I couldn't wait any longer because I had a sitter at my house, and wasn't willing to reschedule, but for my 'trouble', they offered me 10% off my NEXT visit!!! Seriously, you really think I'm coming back, for a whopping 10% off?!?!?! Don't waste your money, go to Dreamweaver (may not be the most beautiful spa in town, but the treat you like ROYALTY and are professional, prompt, and sweet)!!\r \r Cons: everything more

I had just purchased a spa package for my wife and her friend, only for my wife to cancel and go elsewhere. I asked her why she did this, she informed me of rude comments being made towards her and her friend. I suggested her try it one more time, because i had heard good things about it so she did. Would never return! 4/29/2010

My best friend and I booked a couple's pedicure at this spa and it turned out to be a terrible experience. The pedicure itself was subpar, and the girls were downright rude. We were seated on opposite ends of the pedicure room for our couple's pedi. We asked if we could wait for two seats together to come open and we were told that we'd just have to come back another time. The techs were put out that we asked for french pedicures and my friend was told by her tech that her pedicure wouldn't look right because her toes were "weird". The service was rushed and totally basic. After we left, I called the manager to explain our situation. She was extremely apologetic and expressed her desire to make it "right". She asked if we'd return to have our service redone if she'd send us giftcards. I told her that we would. A few days later, the giftcards arrive in the mail-- the value of both cards wouldn't cover a single service for ONE person in that spa- let alone two. So much for making it right. I guarantee that those giftcards are going to sit unused. We won't be returning. more

A Good Spa 2/24/2010

I've gone twice to this spa- both times for my feet and hands. They usually can get you in same day if not next day which is a plus if you have kids! The staff is nice, not overly talkative and the pricing is pretty fair on services, however the product pricing is a bit steep!! more

Somewhat subpar 9/24/2009

I have gotten a GC for my birthday so I went ahead and booked a package. I had facial, manicure, and pedicure. The facial was horrible, probably one of the worst I have had. The manicure was OK, but I loved the pedicure. I came back a second time for the pedicure alone and liked it again. So for now I'll just stick with that. more

Great Svc; Poor Front Desk 8/3/2009

My first visit - arrived at the front desk and my greeting was, ""Do you have an appt,"" to which is responded affirmatively. Then a pleasant, ""Sign in."" No, ""Have a seat and your massause will be right with you,"" or ""Can I get you something to drink while you wait,"" or anything else that might be even close to a pleasant greeting. The girls then chatted amongst themselves about personal life issues - obnoxious to be listening to! Since front desk seems to be a continuing problem for Philipe's, you'd think it would be job performance closely monitored. Guess not! Pros: Massage was outstanding Cons: The front desk service is deplorable! more

Bad Attitude 1/3/2009

My wife, wife's daughter and daughter in-law wanted to make a morning of it and get a pedicure at a local spa. What should have been a relaxing and a fun time turned into a stressful event as they were met with icy stares and contempt because of arriving 12 minutes late to their appointment. The staff at this over-priced spa were rude and unforgiving, making the experience an unfortunate one for 3 ladies out to enjoy themselves. I have been in retail and in business for over 40 years and this is NOT the way a customer is treated. The owner of this shop should know that not only did they lose money that morning but these ladies will never frequent this shop again! more

UNPROFESSIONAL 4/8/2008

I was appalled by my experience at this place considering the amount of money I spent on my services and looking at the other reviews I'm not the only one who had a bad experience. The women who work here are extremely unprofessional, with the exception of Monica the nail technician. She was fabulous and very professional. There is nothing relaxing or unique about this place. Will not go back and will not recommend it. more

Terrible 4/8/2008

Terrible service. Women working were extremely unprofessional. There was constant loud chatting, laughing and doors slamming in the hallways while I was getting my facial. Not relaxing at all. Facial is overpriced and there is no neck/shoulder/foot massage included in the facial like there is at every other day spa I've been to. Woman who gives facials is way too chatty and tells you all about her personal life including showing pictures of her kids! I will never go back and I will be telling people not to waste their money. There are so many better day spas in Indianapolis than this overpriced hole-in-the wall. more

This is a customer service industry and if you cannot be polite and cater to the needs of your clients then you should not be working there. Massage - was very bad. I have had massages all over the country, too. more

Not the best massage I've ever had, but the atmosphere was nice. I liked the locker room. more
