Place is losing its touch 9/16/2009

I've been going here for about 5 years and I've always had a good time.\r \r They appear to be cleaning house with the bartenders getting rid of some of the people that have been there a while.\r \r If they expect the people who are loyal patrons and loyal to certain bartenders to continue to frequent the bar, you can't just clean house on the staff.\r \r I've also noticed that many of the new hires are albeit hot 23 year olds, but I don't really want to have a conversation w a 23 year old and find it really patronizing to be called ""darling"" or ""baby"" by one which evidently they are instructed to do.\r \r Take a look around at your customer base - they are mostly dudes over 30 - who are drinkers. It would be nice if you had bartenders who have some life experience under their belt who you can talk to w/o feeling old or creepy.\r \r If i wanted just to see hot chix, I'd go to strip club.\r \r This is a messed up economy, you guys gotta ride it out and not change horses midstream. Changing your staff may give you a brief spike in sales, but it will not be sustainable.\r \r Pros: cheap drinks, kickass juke Cons: bartenders are twelve years old more

To all my sisters out there keepin it country... 7/27/2009

I really try to keep it classy in the big city, but every now and then a gal like me needs somewhere to let loose and allow her true po-dunk self to come through. That is what dive bars are for, and The Patriot is quite possibly the only true one of the genre that you'll find in NYC. The country music is in full effect fueled by juke boxes on each of The Patriot's two floors, and it's not hard to find a cute drunk boy to dance with (even if he does think dancing to Brooks & Dunn is pleasantly ironic while I consider it a necessary part of life). The drink prices are unfathomably low, we're talkin $2 cans and $6 pitchers of PBR (don't hate), with most other drinks and shots along the same level of cheapness. And obvi the cheaper drinks are, the drunker one can get! As drunk as I may have been, I 'm pretty positive I also saw their food menu boasting the same heavenly prices with many items well less than $5, and from what I hear the bar grub is pretty yummy. My one regret from my recent Patriot trip is that I didn't take the barmaid up on her invitation to dance on the bar, but as fun and friendly as she was, the current song wasn't up to my bar-dancing standards and I wasn't about to break the seal and be the lone drunk girl dancing on the bar. To all you posh nay-sayers: yes, The Patriot is a BAR in the truest sense of the word and it's not apologizing for a lil grit. But if New Yorkers can take the sticks out of their asses and come on down, I think anyone would be surprised at what a good time they'll have. And when y'all come back, I'll be the hot blonde boot-scootin on the bar.\r \r meganinmanhattan . com more

One of new yorks best dive bar 7/6/2009

You get the best of both worlds during the day a decent but cheap to have a cold beer and chat the day away.\r The night brings the wild side out.. I've seen and heard that, if you are a true male you will enjoy the fun. The wild girls come out to play.\r The bathrooms are not the best but you won't be in there that long.\r And can't forget about the bartenders. They sweet talk you anf flirt the the day or night away while getting you buzzing away. A plus for this area of the city. Pros: Best of both worlds Cons: Better to go oiut side than use the bathroom more

you get what you pay for!! 2/24/2009

cheap drinks and white trash crowd- drunks, sleazy men, fat disgusting bar owner, half the girls working there are on d rugs or so s lutty they might as well be strippers. I am all for a great dive bar and country bar- but does that mean all etiquette and standards should go out the window? why not just move to a trailer park? Pros: cheap Cons: everything else more

Great dive bar 7/17/2008

What a dive bar should be. I have no idea how a genuinely fun place like the Patriot is able to survive in the heart of yuppified, soulless Tribeca but I sure am glad it does. The whole staff is accomodating - the bartenders are all very charming and engaging and even the bouncers are friendlier than most. The two-level bar usually isn't too packed as I've been going there for a good while now and have rarely had trouble getting a drink. Speaking of which, The Patriot offers some of the cheapest beer on the island of Manhattan - $2 PBR in the can as well as very reasonable $3 and $4 pints for premium domestic and imported brews on tap, respectively. The crowd is usually raucuous but fun - not pretentious or overrun by idiotic meatheads and valley girls, which is always a plus. There's also a dartboard (albeit with awful plastic darts - bring your own) and a pool table which every good dive is required to have. The downstairs jukebox leaves a bit to be desired as it's filled with nothing but country music and the men's bathrooms on both levels (especially the bottom one) are horror shows but it's a very small price to pay for the great experience this place provides. Pros: Price, Atmosphere, Service, Staff Cons: Jukebox, Little Else more

Got loaded!!!! 4/7/2008

Great dive bar but watch out for the psycho butterfly bartender downstairs. Wow, what a nasty person!!!!!!!\r \r :o) Pros: Cheep!!!!!!!!! Cons: Guess.......... more

What a place! 4/11/2007

The crowd is not too bad before late hours, the company varied, but not insane, and the female bartenders-- WOW! If you are a male with a low libido, these attentive darlings will have your bp going high! Cheap booze, cheap eats, scuzzy decor, dark, low lighting, and where you been in a bar lately where women of all types raise their blouses and bare their breasts in total abandon. Huzzah! Pros: A lot. Cons: Bathroom is scary more

CHEAP DRINKS! 1/15/2007

I go to The Patriot all the time with my BF cause it's one of his favorite hang out spots and even though I'm not a fan of Country or Rock music, I still have a good time at this place everytime I'm there. It's always fun! I will continue coming to this place for the cheap drinks and the good, friendly service. :) Pros: Friendly Service, Cheap Drinks, Lots of Room (upstairs) Cons: Only Country and Rock music on the jukebox :( more

$1 dogs, friendly service, friendly crowd, faux r*dneck 12/8/2006

Is this the best bar in New York? I donno, but it sure was the best bar we've been to in A LONG TIME!! Take the giant allegator with on the ceiling-- please! NO DON'T! It's great. And there's a lot more.\r There's the hugely friendly crowd. (And it did get crowded between 10:30 and mid-night. Then it grew quiet again.)The free pitchers of beer. The bubbly and... er... endowed waitresses. The most affable bouncer I've seen this side of a certain bar in Boston. The most ethnically, racially, age-ally diverse crowd I've seen outside Times Square on December 31st. C&W and 50s music on the jukebox. GREAT B@LLS OF FIRE! What else could you want? How about $1 hotdogs? $1.50 onion rings? Okay, throw them in too. Yeah, the music could have used a 40 decibel reduction in volume-- a common complaint. But in this case, a minor one compared with the faux redn*ck joy of the place. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers. Pros: cheap, diverse crowd, great service, fun atmosphere Cons: Jukebox way too loud more

great down-to-earth bar 11/20/2006

If you remember the Village Idiot, (RIP,) this is its cleaner, younger brother. Like the Idiot, it's populated by hot bartenders, cheap beer, and a crowd of people looking for a good time. Unlike the Idiot, it hasn't fully developed that distinctive layer of beer/vomit/filth that gave the Idiot its distinctive stench & charm. (this can be a good or bad thing, depending on who you ask!)\r \r It's a great spot to meet up with the guys and have endless cheap rounds of beer. But if you're looking for a nice quiet bar to go to for a romantic night with your girl, you'd be better off looking elsewhere! Pros: cheap drinks, fun bartenders, usually a good crowd Cons: sometimes gets packed on weekends more

Bartenders rock 8/1/2006

Definately the coolest bartenders in manhattan. They literally pull girls up on the bar to dance and are great with buybacks. the drinks are cheap and flow like water, so tip those girls well they work their butts off when it gets busy. Some nights its slow, but when a good crowd comes in the place turns into a partyfest! Food isn't great, but tastes better when your drunk, plus its cheap. But all in all, the bartenders defintaely make the bar because even if it's not busy they make sure you have a good time and they're pretty damm hot too. Pros: bartenders, cheap drinks, girls dance on the bar Cons: slow sometime more

Best time in New York 7/19/2006

I went here for the first time last summer and i had the best night ever experienced. The Patriot is exactly what you want in a bar. Cheap drinks and food, ridiculous decor and bartenders that encourage you to get on the bar and dance. The Patriot remains the only bar worthy enough to dance on. And when you are up there, the bartenders poor Jack down your throat. This gem is one not to be missed. Don't wear your Sunday's best because cheap beer means messy guests. The Patriot-a hell of a good time. Pros: Dancing on the bar, friendly bartenders, awesome cheap food Cons: Shady men sometimes lurk in the corners but they are innocent. more

Best Country Music Bar In Lower Manhattan!!!! 7/2/2006

Well, the Village Idiot closed and the Patriot opened. Unfortunately the Patriot will never match the fun atmostphere of the Idiot, but it can get close at times depending on the night. There are times I've gone to the Patriot on the weekends and it was so packed that I had to squeeze my way to the BR. Other times on a weekend, I could literally count only five people in the place including myself and the bartender. To this day, can't explain why this is..........but if you happen to catch The Patriot on a ""good night"", it can be a lot of fun. But, WARNING: This place is still a great place, but try and avoid the bartender named PATIENCE at all cost!! She normally works Wednesday evenings until 8pm, I'm not sure what other shifts she works. She has dirty blond hair, disgustingly skinny, and wears glasses. I have witnessed her on several occasions take $20 bills, then claims that the person only gave her a 5 or a 10, and simply pockets the rest as a tip to herself. She's very sneaky and has a really nasty attitude, except towards 5-6 alcoholic regulars who come in every time she works. I have also seen her refuse service completely to people just because she has some kind of personal grudge against them. I really hope the owner Tom catches this and they eventually get rid of her. Pros: No Cover, No Dress Code, Excellent Jukebox Cons: BEWARE OF BARTENDER NAMED PATIENCE FOR SCAMS more

The cheapest drinkin' in Manhattan 12/7/2005

well, tied with Yogi's, the uptown counterpart to this place. Not a place to bring your grandma unless your grandma is a biker that can outdrink you. The bartenders are usually attractive, competent and friendly. There's quite a bit of turnover but the veteran tenders kick a lot of ass. Crowds are hit or miss; sometimes it's very quiet sometimes it's crazy busy. An awesome place for a cheap, drunk, fun time. Bring your drinkin shoes. Pros: Cheap, Fun more

""Cheap Beer and Cheap Women"" 7/7/2005

The Patriot has become like a second home to me. Ok, maybe tied for first. I was thrilled to find this wonderfully divey place within my downtown hangout area. The bartenders are as beautiful as they are friendly, and they are insanely generous with the buy backs. Being an after work spot, The Patriot is usually at its best on Thursday and Friday nights, where the bartop dancing girls are plenty. The Patriot also boasts a great country jukebox. Don't like country? I didn't either when I first started coming here, but now my iPod is full of it. The music is catchy and infectious, moreso when associated with a hell of a time at this great bar. Pros: cheap booze, bartenders, music more

I Love This Bar 6/12/2005

I like my girl friend, I like my pickup truck, but I Love This Bar! Pros: Energetic, Friendly, Rocking Cons: Not Irish more

One of The Best Bars In All of Manhattan 4/28/2005

Place is a hit or miss. There have been times that I've been to The Patriot on the weekends and the place was completely dead. Other times it can be elbow to elbow with girls dancing on the bar. Beers are only $3 per bottle.Bartenders are extremely friendly and make you feel like you're right at home. Jukebox blasts mostly country, southern rock, rockabilly, and some oldies too. There is definitely room to dance. Onion rings and fries are great..but I wouldn't eat their burgers.Ladies,if you dance on the bar you will earn a free shot of whatever you want!! Ignore the ""Unpatriotic"" reviewer because he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. They have tables and chairs in case you want to bring a date or a large group of people. Yogi's on the upper west side at Broadway&76th St. is also a great dive owned by the same person. Pros: Cheap, Fun, great jukebox Cons: burgers more

UN-patriotic 2/13/2005

This place is SO lame and overrated! Why? The place was empty on a Friday afternoon, the ONE bartender working was hideous , she made us ALL wait forever for drinks, FOREVER and a DAY for, the dollar burgers that were SO SMALL they make a White Castle Burger look like a Big Mac, AND those 2.50 well drinks were NOWHERE to be found. The bartender practically forced top shelf down our throats. What a disappointment! Cons: Miniature burgers, Ugly Bartender, long wait 4 drinks more
