I brought my 14 year old Pekinese to Handel with care for a grooming as I have been doing for some time and was told he was over due for a rabies shot. I thought about going to my own vet for that I have been using for some 20 years but they said they would do it there if I wanted. I thought about it and said ok go ahead and give it to him. What a mistake! When I brought Gizmo in that day he was fine. When I picked him up his head was tilted, he was stumbling to one side and could hardly stand up. Dr. Handel said he didn't understand why, (he's a vet I thought) and left it as is. Three weeks later Gizmo has only gotten worse and I fear I'm losing my friend of 14 years. I let him down by allowing those people to give him that shot. What happened during his stay there is anyones guess but all I know is he was perfect when he went in and horrible when he came out. I have been takeing my pets to Handel with Care for quite a few years and in my opinnion you can't find a better animal to bring your pets to. Dr. Handel and his entire staff go above and beyond to keep your pet healthy and they know you and your pet by name wich is very rare these days. They make you feel like you are part of the family. I would never even consider bringing my pets anywhere else for medical care and I trust Handel with Care and his entire staff with all my animals. I have been a client of Handel With Care for 15 years. I have two dogs, one of which has had serious health conditions for the past 10 years. Handel With Care has given my dogs top notch veterinary care and has, in fact, brought my sickly dog back to good health many, many times after some serious health issues. The staff is always professional and friendly, and Dr. Handel and Dr. Sierra are very competent and compassionate and truly care about all of the animals they treat. Dr. Handel has been my vet for all of my animals since I moved to the area 15years ago. He has treated our English Lab for over 12 years. Dr. Handel and his staff have always been professional, caring and friendly. They know my dog by name and treat us like family. \r \r Today, sadly, is the day that we meet with Dr. Handel to discuss putting our arthritic dog to sleep. Dr Handle and his staff have helped care for an eventually helped us say good bye to our last two dogs. He has treated us and our dogs like family over the past 12 years and we would not go to another vet. He knows our dogs and their history and takes it all into account when determining the course of any treatment. I have been to other practices over the years and it is frustrating to have to wait whlie they "familiarize" themselves with your chart. That NEVER happens at Handle with Care. He treats all aminals with care and respect. Our Westie was very nervous and difficult to handle a the vets office and we were never made to feel that he was not welcome or cared about. I carry AKC pet healthcare insurance on my latest puppy so I will not be making vet care decisions based on cost, the (sometimes extraneous) comprehensive testing may save her life. Dr. Handle was polite enough but seemed to be high priced when compared to other reputable vets. He also pushed lots of diagnostics that weren't necessary. I got a quote of $350 to get my male cat neutered. Other reputable vets in the area gave me estimates of around $150. He itemizes everything even down to taking the blood pressure. As a suggestion to him if he is reading my review, you may want to consider setting your fees to be comparable to other vets in your area. And also refer to certain criteria (reported signs and symptoms) before conducting too many pricey diagnostic tests. Just like a doctor for humans is often limited by what diagnostic tests are covered by insurance companies so too vets should follow a set of guidelines before performing expensive often unnecessary procedures/diagnostic tests. Dr. Handel took care of our siberian huskies for almost eleven years. He always treated our dogs with care, us with respect, listened to our concerns, and was upfront about any situation or course of treatment that needed to be addressed.\r \r His diligence and attention to detail when routine blood work was performed on our older dog, led to the discovery of Rocky Mountain Fever, a disease transmitted by ticks. Although we check our dogs routinely for ticks, apparently one must have gotten through the radar.\r \r With no visible symptoms, we would have had no way of knowing our little guy was seriously ill until it was too late. After the prescribed course of antibiotics, our boy recovered completely. I have to say you pay for what you get in life. That is also true in Veterinary medicine. Before my children were born I was a Veterinary Technician for several years. I have worked with and for several vets in many circumstances, including with my animals as patients. Dr. Handel and company suggest what they know is best for the animal. What we as owners choose or are able to comfortably do for our animals is another story. Animals cost money to be properly cared for. Plain and simple. I have been to less expensive Vets in the past and my animals have suffered for it. I now go to Dr. Handel's office. They present a list of what they deem neccisary and the reasons why and then leave it to us. If you don't want to or can't spend $400 on your animal then don't. They are just telling what they think is best and why. I love the experience there personally and hope to bring my animals there for a long time to come. more

Dr Handel and all his staff are awesome people. Everyone at Handel with care, Handel's my boys {Baby Bar, Little Bit and Leo babes, }WITH CARE. I have anxieties, and Baby Bar had to stay in the hospital. The whole staff treated me as I were a patient. They are the most compassionate people I know. I highly recommend Dr Handel and his staff! Dr Handel treats all of my pets, and treats my family and I like family. He is a great veterinarian and always keeps my pets healthy. The Prices are reasonable and i think the other 2 ratings are incorrect I would rather pay more to keep my "kids" healthy and know they will be taken care of properly. According to the last two posts they had a negative experience or thought the prices were high with this veterinary. We have had a positive experience with our 3 iguanas and 1 Maine Coon Cat. Dr. Handel was extremely thoroughly with his examination and I thought his prices were equivalent or better than others. As an experienced iguana and a many cat owner, I feel I should be able to judge a veterinary experience. I also feel that the place we purchased the two iguanas were able to judge this veterinary appropriately. They referred us to them. In our opinion you can?t go wrong here. He may recommend things that you may deem inappropriate. (Like he did to us to determine our iguana?s sexes, but we turned him down for the tests. We were proved to be wrong.
