Fruit Fly Heaven (My Hell) 9/10/2006

My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Monday night during restaurant week, and found two seats at the bar. The weather was nice and the windows on Winthrop Street were wide open, which unfortunately spelled trouble for the open fruit tray at the bar-fruit flies were swarming and I had to swat them away. The bartender was nice enough, he had some facial piercings (lip and cheeks) which is unusual in a high end place (I work at a dive and we don't allow lip piercings on servers), but was adept at his job. I ordered one of the bourbon based cocktails ($11) and was shocked to watch him pour Jim Beam into it, add some orange juice and voila! A totally mediocre drink. The fruit fly trouble reappeared in my drink, I fished out a dead one with my straw. The food was good, but honestly, I can't stand the pretentious atmosphere and probably will never return. Pros: Service, Food Cons: Fruit Flies, Patrons, Attitude more

Hair in food, argumentative, very bad service 8/10/2006

I found a blond hair in my salad and when I complained, the waitress was argumentative - she responded that no one in the kitchen had blond hair! Clearly it wasn't mine since I have black hair! When asked for the manager, he didn't have a better way of handling a dissatisfied customer! \r \r I truly didn't expect this treatment - definitely not at a place that is supposed to be classy and this expensive! I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to ANYONE!\r more

TERRIBLE 7/12/2006

I just have to say how can restaurants like this stay open.....Spent way to much money on advertising and not enough on service or more importantly the food.....the chef I believe is from New York she/he should go back there ............ Cons: poor service, poor music more

Pompus 7/12/2006

I really hope the owners read this site. The bar guy (i think) was such a pompus idiot, walking around the inside of the place with a pair of sun glasses on. Where does he think he is? Maybe if he took them off he'd have been able to see we were trying to attract his attention. The bar maid spent more time chatting up and battering her eye lids at my boyfriend than anything anything else. I have worked in the business through all my college years and i am well aware of the good looking girl for the guys. But Please! Have a bit of class. Both he and I were uncomfortable by the whole affair and we won't be returning. On a foot note the drinks that are raved about so much. Nothing special! Belive me. more

Poor Brunch 7/12/2006

A group of us went to om for brunch a couple of weeks ago.We walked out the service was poor and the food was below par .The waitdress didnt want to be there ..... Cons: poor food more

Not geat 7/10/2006

saturday night 7/9/2006

Hung out at OM on Saturday night with friends for a birthday party. The cocktails were awesome & wicked strong, the momos were yummy & we LOVE the shrimp skewers!!! The hostess or manager was great she helped find us seats in the lounge and made the extra effort to make sure we were taken care of. The music was cool & this place is such a great addition to Harvard square. Finally a place where my friends & I can dress up and go out & not have to go to Boston. I have not been upstairs in the diningroom but heard its suppossed to be cool too. Thanks OM for making my friends Birthday a super great time!!!!! Pros: music, drinks, manager Cons: wish it was bigger more

great dinner 7/7/2006

went to OM saturday night and had a great meal. My wife had the hamachi sashimi and the lamb & I had the foie gras and scallops. The food, decor & waitstaff were excellent. I am from brookline and rarely go to cambridge for dinner but I plan on visiting this place again. One observation I made is that the ingredients were of the highest quality and you pay for that, but it is worth it. Pros: food, service, decor Cons: lounge can get a little loud late night more

poor 7/7/2006

What a let down. The food portions are small and over priced. The price of drinks are crazy.the bartenders are very unpleasant.Overall very very disappointing more

Great decor, poor service / food 5/14/2006

Went to OM on a Saturday night with friends hand I do not think that any of us will be going. The decor & layout is amazing, unfortunately the service and food are not up to the same level. Waitstaff was really slow and they did not have 50% of the items we ordered off the menu. (We only got told about items out of stock 10-15min after ordering). Eventually found a few things that they did have, one of which was a cheese platter & the waitress was not even able to name all the items on the plate! Quality of the food was definitely not worth the price or the wait. Pros: Decor Cons: Poor Service, Sub standard food, considering prices more

A Wanna Be 5/8/2006

From my many visits to NYC and South Beach, OM is a wanna be - copying the Asian influence in food and decor, and striving for the cool cocktails and hip, casual bar scene. The bar is fine, but in utter contrast to the decor and ambiance in the upstairs dining room. If the host and wait staff upstairs were not so pretentious and cool, I believe I would have enjoyed the evening more. The food is unusual with exotic ingredients and accompaniments, which deserves my rating of ""recommended."" However, the portions were too small and prices too high. When this place decides what it wants to, it may be worth reconsidering. more

Perfection! 4/18/2006

I was expecting an overpriced, overhyped, scene at OM. But when I went with my family this week I was overwealmed with the quality, presentation, and service this restaurant provides. Each of our plates was a work of art. The tuna tartare was perfectly cooked and so much fun to eat with the mini drink they give you to rinse your pallette. The Tea Time desert included a mini bubble tea, and two tea flavored pastries. It was expensive, but that is what you pay for absolute perfection. The artwork in there is like a museum - all of it was hand made for the owner. Wall of water, huge wood and stone carvings, etc. Out of this world! Pros: atmosphere, artistic food more

Amazing drinks... awkward setup and social scene 4/5/2006

My friend and I went to OM for ""fancy drinks"" on a Friday night. The interior was interesting, but kinda awkwardly set up. There were a lotta Harvard folk there (you decide whether that's a good thing or not). The drinks were pretty pricey, but by far the most beautiful drinks I have ever experienced in my life. I would probably go back on a weeknight when it is less crowded just for the drinks. TRY THE ESSENTIAL MARTINI. Pros: awesome drinks Cons: pricey more

Exquite Dinning 3/27/2006

I travel for work quite a bit so I rely on MSN city search to find places to dine and OM has rank the top on my list as one of my favorite restaurant in MA. From foie gras to Korean beef serve w/ yellow watermelon and not to mention the dumpling. It was very tasting & well put together!! The price might be on the high end but if you enjoy food as much as I am, it's worth every penny. So while in Boston, it's definitely worth a trip to Cambridge to try this restaurant. Pros: Nice Decor, Food Cons: OK Service more

trip over the river 3/21/2006

I never leave boston to dine. I am glad I made the trip to OM. The restaurant was beautiful & the view was amazing overlooking the park. We had the foie gras with pecan pie. OH MY GOD! the best foie gras dish I have ever had & we had the beef & watermelon salad which was so fresh. For entrees we had the Lamb with artichokes & we had the duck which was delicious, crispy & so adorable with a miniature skillet filled with a duck pie. For dessert we shared the carrot cake with parsnip ice cream. It was so different because it had a spicy chili caramel sauce. I travel alot internationally & all I can say is WOW!!! This place is for people who truly love & understand food & interesting ambiance. Pros: food, ambiance, price more

OM is out of this world 3/17/2006

I have been to OM 3 times. And, I have loved every single visit. The first time, I went there after work with my friends, and we sat at the lounge. It was very cool. The crowd, the martinis (try Zen Te'), the ambience...just perfect. The second time, I had dinner with my girlfriend. This food is for foodies. If you think you know good food, then go to OM. They don't overstuff you like a pig. But, by the time you have finished your dessert, you feel like you just had a perfect meal. Awesome taste, perfect size. The third time, I was at the lounge again. This time they opened the windows of the lounge. The view was amazing. I cannot wait to go back during summer. Try momos and chicken skewers. Pros: cocktails & bar food, ambience, food Cons: not for everybody, small & cozy more

pleasantly surprised 3/17/2006

from the moment i walked in i wantd to not like the place but it was amazing. the color scheme, the drinks... cliff and matt at the bar are a great combo! the momos are to die for. i dont like cilantro so i was directed towards the veggie ones. i also had the korean beef. that is literally the coolest dish i have eaten in a very long time. watermelon and the beef make a mouth watering combination. the music was very chill downtempo & i have never scene so many girls in one place. Finally- a lounge that is not a meat market. this is a great additon to boston's somewhat stagnant nightlife!!!! Pros: yummy, comfy, service Cons: valet or walking more

I wanted to like OM, but was sadly underwhelmed 3/13/2006

Our appetizers included the olive ravioli and the greens. The ravioli was plump and well conceived, and the greens were abundant and lightly coated in Thai flavors. OM seemed promising at first. With the entrees, the meal began to fall apart. The Surf and Turf was laughably portioned, barely large enough to serve as an appetizer. (Apparently, OM still holds to the tired big plate, little food craze.) The tuna was passable, though nothing special, and the beef momos were no bigger than a mans thumbnail. The well publicized Steak and Eggs was better proportioned, but also overpriced and overrated. When the desserts finally arrived (30 minutes later!), they, too, were all plate and very little substance. Cambridge has so many wonderful restaurants; you can do much better than OM for a special night out. And at prices like these, its not unreasonable to expect more bang for your buck. more

Wanna Be That Is Nothing New and Overpriced. 3/10/2006

Although the place looks cool, it isn't. The service staff is overwhelmed or too stupid to service well, having people wait in all locations and crowd places for no reason. Rude bartenders take forever to serve people, and when they do, you overpay for weak, watery drinks. Don't be fooled by the TV's or fact that this place is new. The crowd is lacking and sets a stage for a regretful night. Keep walking by this one. Cons: Very pricey, Bad Service, Hot and sticky air more

Spectacularly bad and overpriced food, great bar 3/7/2006

The food was a total joke - entrees are sized as appetizers and are mediocre and absurdly expensive. Even if they cut food prices by 50% it would still not be cheap. The bar/lounge area is great, the cocktails are excellent, just don't order any food. My friends and I are betting on when this place closes, no way are people so stupid as to keep going to eat there. The over/under is about a year, I have the under. Pros: Bar, Cocktails Cons: Food, Food, Food more
