Cute space, but come on! $4 for bad coffee??!! The food was decent, but really overpriced. What we need in NYC is a good ole' International House of Pancakes (aka IHOP). Until...

Awesome restaurant 6/21/2006

First of all, don't believe the bad reviews! Pros: Ambience, food quality Cons: little pricey more

Overpriced and Bad Food!!!!! 5/29/2006

Ordered the Waz-za, and it was disgusting, yogurt over a waffle, and then they creme-bruleed it which translated to just burning the top. The fruit was mushy, and a glass of orange juice was $7!! Furthermore, had a 1pm reservation made weeks in advance and didnt get seated till at least 1:40. more

Great Brunch 5/16/2006

We made our second visit to Norma's and it was just as good as the first. On the first visit back in May, we both had the pancakes, which were outstanding. This time we tried the crepe's and they were also fantastic. Mine were Mango/papaya with cinnamon and the wife had Chocolate Hazelnut with fruit. YUM!!!! Once again, the wait staff were pleasant and prompt. The atmosphere is fun and exciting. And the coffee is only for those of us that appreciate it being bold! It is pricey, so if you object to laying out the cash for a great breakfast, there's a McDonald's down the street. But if you want a great meal in a good atmosphere, don't miss it. Make a reservation to insure prompt seating! Pros: Great food, good service, fun place, Ambience, Good service Cons: Expensive more

really good brunch 4/19/2006

if you ever want to pay $35 for an egg-cellent brunch (ok, im stupid), then this is the place to go. the different varieties of eggs benedict are amazing. i especially recommend the normas eggs benedict which come on fluffy buttermilk pancakes instead of the standard english muffins. the artichoke eggs benedict come in a savory porcini mushroom sauce who knew that the artichoke, besides being a perfect vehicle for butter at a lobster restaurant, would also be a perfect nest for a poached egg at a breakfast place? contrary to normas recommendations, dont try the wazaa?, a belgian waffle topped with overly sour yogurt and fruit. stick with the eggs. orange juice is roughly $7 per glass, but its !!unlimited!! service is average and about as good as it can be for such a busy restaurant. definitely make reservations (its easy to do so via opentable). Pros: eggs, variety, unltd oj Cons: price more

Uneven 3/13/2006

Breakfast at Norma's is outstanding. However, there is major room for improvement. We were seated 1/2 an hour late, without a hint of an apology. The waiting area is extremely inadequate, with 40 people standing around in a bare hotel lobby. I am also surprised by the lacking decor: white walls and tan seating. French toast (albeit very fancy) costs $18, with all entree items between $16 and $22. What bothered me most was that the bill arrived without our requesting it, and without anyone asking if our food was ok, or if we desired anything else. I expect this at a diner, however I also pay half the price. To seat patrons late, charge posh prices, and then try to rush them out is bad business. Despite excellent food, I don't know if I will go back--Norma's should take better care of their customers if they want repeat visitors. Pros: excellent brunch Cons: long wait, very expensive more

Normas is Awesome 1/14/2006

I've read complaints about the food & prices...well you can't please 'em all especially those that don't want to pay for a unique and tasty gourmet breakfast! This isn't Denny's or I-Hop so do not go expecting $6.99 specials! I consider Norma's fine dining for breakfast/brunch! Atmosphere: bustling, Food: to die for! Never had anything bad there...from lobster macaroni and cheese, to melt in your mouth salmon eggs benedict (a twist on the old ham), to pecan pancakes covered with fresh fruit toppings. The service is impeccable for such a busy place. For example...if you have any problem just be assertive enough to flag the waiter down (this is NYC) ask him nicely to fix it and he will as well as bringing something extra for your trouble. Understand that this is a VERY popular/busy place with an upscale menu and why is it so popular...do you have to ask? Pros: fab food, unique menu, beautiful presentatio Cons: long wait w/o reserva, can get loud more

not good! 12/25/2005

Finally made it to Norma's to try the ""best breakfast in NY"". It was a major disappointment. The food was below mediocre. My Waza waffle was awful, could not take more than three bites, it tasted like someone dumped salt on it. Waiter sent out a smoothie after I complained. My husband tried the Hudson duck hash, no flavor but we ate it to kill the taste of the horrendous waffle. Only good part was the French pressed coffee and getting out of there! Pros: good coffee Cons: bad food, high prices more

Best Breakfast?? 11/18/2005

Sure it was! The food was really good and the service excellent. We had reservations but we wait an extra 15 minutes. The Wasa Waffle was ""different"" but when we spoke to the manager he inmediatly changed if for another dish (He suggested the Chocolate decadence French Toast...very good) The place is very nice but noisy. There was a table with some kids near to us but other than that everything was Excellent! It was our first time and we are planning to go back soon Pros: Service, quality of food, ambiance Cons: crowded, waiting line, expensive more

Really, it's a bad place; do NOT go 11/17/2005

Why does this place have such a high rating? Who are these people are saying anything good about it? This place is terribly expensive, the wait to sit down is interminable, with or without reservations, and the prices are really expensive (and the service is horrid). Oh yeah, and the fodd? Eh...standard eggs benedict, and then ""whacky"" dishes like French toast swaddled in slices of cheddar cheese. Avoid avoid avoid. Cons: expensive, bad service, long wait more

Over rated; coasting on their reputation 11/10/2005

This place is so awful the service is bad, the wait is nearly interminable (even when you have reservations), and the price is expensive. There's NO reason to go this place in order to go though an experience like this. Bad bad bad; avoid at all costs. Do NOT believe the hype. Cons: LONG wait, EXPENSIVE, rude staff more

Disappointing 10/17/2005

Norma's is too expensive to have such shoddy service. Our group ordered three of their special waffles--the WaZaa. We'd had it before, and enjoyed it. This time, though, the sauce was off and the fruit was bad. The waffle was just terrible--virtually inedible. We talked to the waiter and the manager, trying to figure out what was wrong, but they were extraordinarily unhelpful. We ended up paying $51 for those three uneaten waffles, and the management did nothing to compensate for the terrible food. I was so disappointed. Norma's really fell down on the job this time. more

I love this place 10/2/2005

My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast, the eggs are to die for. I ordered the Country pancakes with peaches and walnuts... delicious and excellent. This compliment is coming from someone who usually only eats only her OWN pancakes. I usually hate anyone's pancakes, but these pancakes are excellent. Tha bacon and my orange juice is also good. The service is excellent, and we waited only ten minutes for our meals. Norma's ..keep up the good work. Pros: great service, great meals, fluffy eggs more

Too bad.. 7/14/2005

I ate bruch on a weekday in early July 2005. Although tables were available the maitre d' makes you wait while he runs your name through his reservation system. There is an additional 5 to 8 minute wait while he does this. After being seated the waiter was prompt with coffee and taking my order. However, my order of eggs benedict arrived with eggs hard boiled. The waiter took the order back but he the second serving came back on soggy english muffins with the eggs only slightly runny. For $19 in a place that specializes in breakfast I did expect perfect eggs benedict. This is my second disappointment at this restaurant and I will not return. more

Great food - outstanding service. 6/19/2005

Before reviewing the food, I want to briefly mention the service. Norma's has the best service I have seen in a restaurant, whether in or outside NY. Our waiter knew exactly how to make our experience perfect, without our having to ask for it. Whether it was bringing an extra plate for us to share food, or brining in an extra free sample when we really liked the first, he did everything right. The food itself is very good. I would not say it's outstanding. The portions are huge. Consider splitting one dish rather than ordering two. The duck dish could easily feed a family. I haven't had the fruit salad but I will next time because it looks amazing. The place costs too much for a breakfast place, but it was an excellent experience, and I will come back. P.S. There are no lines in the afternoon. Pros: Good food, Great Service, Pleasant Cons: Expensive, Closes early more

KIDS NOT WELCOME HERE! Great Food - Long Wait 6/12/2005

HOORAY! Norma's is now a CHILD-FREE ZONE! Children are NOT ALLOWED AT NORMA'S ANYMORE!!!! That means you can now enjoy your breakfast without hearing crying babies, screaming children. I was so delighted when the hostess informed a couple with the most poorly behaved children, that this was an ""Establishment for Adults and children over the age of 13 only"". Waited about 45 minutes without a reservation. There are no Handsome baritone Nordic waiters patroling the room, Coffee is now $5.00 per person. However, the Chocloate Banana Napoleon, Chocolate decadence French Toast, Breakfast Quesadilla and the Extra Cheesy French toast were out of this world! Pros: Great food, NO MORE CHILDREN!, Adults only Cons: Price, Long Wait more

So Disappointed! 5/18/2005

I used to love Norma's- went maybe once every month or so. I went two weeks ago and after waiting the customary wait, we had to wait another 30 minutes before someone even came to give us coffee and then another 15 minutes to place our order. I didn't leave since I was starving and I thought that the meal would be worth the wait. The food and service sucked and while I never complained before about paying a lot for a good brunch, it pained me to have to pay for the crappy service and poorly prepared good. I'd rather go to IHOP, if there was one in the city. more

Yummy Yummy Breakfast 5/15/2005

No doubt this is breakfast on a higher level with prices to match, but nobody can deny that Norma's does breakfast just about better than anybody in NYC. Rock lobster and sauteed asparagus omelette, banana macadamia nut flapjacks with whipped banana brown sugar butter or brioche styled french toast with fresh seasonal berries are just a few of the creative breakfast dishes on Norma's menu. All diners get a free shot of the day's selected smoothie. A wait is inevitable at Norma's so take a seat in the hotel lobby and relax with a cup of complimentary coffee. Pros: all dishes, smoothies more

Wow! Everything's Big! 5/7/2005

Definitely worth the wait! The food is worth every penny! When you order French toast you get ""FRENCH TOAST"" It's uasually smothered with roasted carmelized nuts, fresh fruit, and your choice of syrup. more

The Waiting Game 2/10/2005

Although we had a reservation through OpenTable, we were made to wait 30 minutes in the least comfortable hotel lobby I've experienced. When we finally were invited to sit, we waited over an hour for our food. Under any circumstances, this treatment is not acceptable, no matter how good the restaurant claims its food is. more

don't believe the hype 1/3/2005

While the food is indeed good, it's expensive, and the wait is very, very long for both your table and the meal. We went there on an average day, and it took us twice as long to get a table as they thought it would, and then the food (two orders of French toat) took over half hour to be delivered. The bill for breakfast, two long hours later, was almost $70; so so so so not worth it. Cons: , rude staff, expensive more
