Don't get me wrong, I love this place. Still wish this bar the best. My girlfriend and I have been coming here for over 8 years. We have two happily married friends who met here. would still be coming here, and love hanging with the staff outside this venue, but it has forgooten what made Moondogs the destination spot. Just hate it when places sell out. It has more of a corporate feel now. Have been in the industry, and this was always a place for me and my coworkers to go and chill. Girlfriend and I were regulars, and friends with the staff and still are close with them. From the heavy smoke, to the hard core rap music (really, they play hard core rap here now), and the new poker format this place has lost its relaxed late night atmosphere. Long time favorite Turner, has moved on and been replaced as the pit boss for poker. And man has it suffered. What used to be a fun group of players is now replaced by hooligans and loiters. Had a great time with the few faces I recognized but could tell they were frustrated with the seedy element now at the tables. An elderly woman, who the table recognized as a regular bother, kept miss dealing and spilled her drink all over my lap and the cards multiple times. Huge pain to us and the table. Still hang with the old regulars, who now frequent irby ave., and they moved on from what was once a great spot to chill and play cards. What happened to a dress code here? Was once unable to enter with my hat on side ways. Now I find at my table hoods, and sun glasses. Really? It is free poker. We are here to mingle and have a good time. Love the extra poker chip idea they have installed. Miss the old regular players who no longer want to deal with the scum bags that occupy the tables now. Understand their frustration. the smoke level is intolerable here. Quit smoking 4 yrs ago but you would never know that by the odor I keep after leaving this place. My girlfriend and I are now in our late twenties and what used to be a fun spirited dance floor is now filled with gansta rap and she and her friends hate it now. Would rather deal with the crowd at Red Door, 5P then get dragged on to this meat party. Who listens to this ridiculous crap. Not college students, or the regulars. Have a bunch of wanta bs on the stage standing around eyeing all the girls. Cant even get to the bar with these loiters hanging around not even dancing. What is this Bar Atlanta? Worked out so well for that place. Prefer my girl to stay off the dance side and not get rubbed up on by these shady individuals. Miss this place and the staff, but lack of dress code, aided by the frequent riff raff leave me to continue to miss this place. It pains me to give it only three stars, but also it pains me even more with the forgotten chill factor and hangout this was. Table 3 no longer.
Pros: Memories
Cons: Smoke. Smokiest bar ever! Gangst Rap! Really?
