Best

This is by far, the best steakhouse I have ever been to. The second I walked in the door, I was greeted by friendly staff members and a beautiful environment.\r The wine list is...

Absolutely wonderful. 8/16/2007

I was a little skeptical seeing this place amongst all of the establishments aimed at students, but this place is great. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. We tried the provoleta appetizer which is similar to an Italian Insalata Caprese. She had the churasco-an Argentinian flavored skirt steak, which I ate most of... I had the tuna which was cooked the perfect medium rare, and came with wonderful sides of buttery broccollini and a baby green salad with a nice sweet vinegrette. We happened to come on a Wed (half priced bottles of wine) which was a nice surprise. Staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was classy but relaxed. But for me its all about the food, which would keep me coming back and would cause me to recommend Metro 8 to everyone. more

Great food, friendly folks, open late. Bottles of wine 1/2 price on Wednesdays. 8/9/2007

We love this place! The interior is comfortable and classy. The owners never fail to greet diners and are gaining a loyal following for this reason. The wait staff is usally top-rate and it is rare to have to wait for a table. But I am saving the best for last, the food is incredible! I have been back several times (and plan to continue going) and absolutely love everything I have tried. The steaks are cooked to perfection, the tuna is the best I've ever had, the salmon is wonderful, and the desserts are terrific. The churrasco (Argentinian style steak) and the chocolate souffle are a few of our favorites. Another big plus about Metro 8 is that they are open late and serve food late! This is my new favorite place to eat & drink. Stop in and give it a try! Pros: Great food, friendly owners, nice atmosphere (smoke-free inside), large patio more

Great Staff - Awesome Food! 6/20/2007

I can't say enough good things about Metro 8. I am a consultant and am constantly on the road eating at restaurants all over the country. I'm in Durham for 6 months and I have been at Metro 8 every Tuesday night. The staff is outstanding and the food, in fact, the entire menu is well thought out - Incredible! more

Great food, drinks and service 6/12/2007

My boyfriend and I went Metro 8 for dinner and we loved everything! From the awesome skirt steak that was just enough, to the chocolate souffle for dessert. Cassie one of the owners greeted us and was very friendly, which made our experience even better. We sat outside which made for a lovely evening. I would highly recommend Metro 8 to any of my friends or co-workers. more

We Ate at Metro 8 - WOW! 5/31/2007

Upon consideration of a move to the Durham area, I wanted to make certain that there were quality restaurants for entertaining business clients and personal friends. I am moving from Coral Gables, a world-renowned mecca for fine dining. So as I set out on my restaurant search, I was prepared to be disappointed, but was hopeful. Well, what a delightful surprise - Metro 8! The service was superb and was only outdone by the quality and presentation of the food. Our server made suggestions, answered any and all questions, and was extraordinarily well versed when asked about wine selections. I ordered the tuna and relished every bite. It was perfectly seared to my specifications and the presentation was definitely Coral Gables quality or better. All of my very well-traveled guests - a college friend who is a food critic, a wine aficionado, a self-proclaimed ""great chef"" (although amateur in reality), and a gourmand - were equally delighted and decided to try ALL of the desserts. We were already well sated and thought that a ""taste"" would be more than enough. Not even a crumb was left on the plates! We have since recommended it to a dozen friends in the area whose tastes, professions and budgets are widely varied, and the reviews have all been the same ? a truly wonderful dining experience! We are in the process of scheduling a return trip to the area. Once a date certain is determined, my first call will be to Metro 8 for reservations. . Pros: Everything from the decor, service, food preparation, wine selection right through to the dessers Cons: None that we could find. more

AMAZING!!! 5/29/2007

We recently visited friends in NC who took us to this fabulous gem of a restaurant near the Duke U. campus. The 4 of us travel quite a bit and dine at restaurants all over the country more often than at home, and we unanimously agreed that this was among the best meals any of us could recall. The steaks, desserts and cocktails at Metro 8 were simply out of this world! We had the hefty cowboy ribeye, churrasco, tuna steak and the T-bone--all were tender, juicy and cooked to absolute perfection. For dessert we tried 2 of their homemades: the warm, melty chocolate souffle and a creamy passion fruit dessert. They were SO good! They'll make you want to forget your manners and lick the plates! The service was my ideal: perfectly attentive, though not cloying. A charming and talented husband and wife team own the place--they cook, mix drinks and make sure that their patrons are enjoying themselves. They each visited ours and surrounding tables and treated us like royal guests in their home. You have to check this place out! more

great customer service 3/13/2007

My boyrfriend and I went to Metro 8 based on a previous Citysearch review. It is a very calm, quaint restaurant in the middle of 9th St in Durham. We both had different steaks which were cooked very well, but not as seasoned as I tend to like. However, the service and the desserts were absolutely superb! The chocolate souffle should be illegal!!! It takes a few extra minutes for them to make, but it is well worth the wait. The waiter was very nice, attentive, and conversational. Pros: ambience, service Cons: it was very empty the Friday night we went, but there was no waiting more

Best Steak of the triangle 2/15/2007

My husband and I went to Metro 8 to celebrate our 8-year anniversary. It was unbelievable! The food was spectacular, the wine selection was great, the decor was very pleasant and the service was phenomenal.\r For appetizers we had empanadas (a delicious Argentine meet pastry) and provoleta which is a melted thick slice of provolone cheese with spices, crunchy and delicious. They were both excellent! The steak was out of this world, it comes with chimichurri sauce which was also excellent. However, the stake was so good that you don't need to put anything on it. For desert we had Crepes with dulce de leche (caramel) and tiramisu. When the desert plates come they look like pieces of art and they taste even better!\r I highly recommend this restaurant. I would be there every weekend if I'd live closer. more
