Massage Envy

I joined their member ship for 6 mths as it was a good deal. What they neglected to tell me was although I could roll over monthly massages, once I cancelled the membership (they keep charging you well after your membership is over) you either use them or lose them. The staff is great there. Always helpful and nice. Things I don't like: **Even though Im always on time the therapists are usually about 10 minutes late. Not a big deal, however, YOU do not get an extra ten minutes added on your timed massage. You may get started late but YOU leave on time! By the time they talk to you and you undress and get ready for the massage, you have lost probably a good 15 minutes of your scheduled hour massage. **Seems like you can never get the same therapist. Seems like there is a big turnover there. The therapists are great. Although one time I received a massage from a young girl who was sick and sniffled and hacked the whole time. She probably should have stayed home. Bottom line: If you are looking for an inexpensive massage you will get one here and probably be satisfied with it. Just remember it won't be an actual hour of therapy. more

Worst massage I have ever had! Went to take my friend for a massage for her 30th birthday - figured it would be a nice treat for us both... boy was I wrong! The website touts robes, slippers, lockers, relaxation. We experienced none of these things. The woman giving my friends massage talked the entire time and asked her non-stop questions, not allowing her to relax for even a second. Mine on the other hand was given by a man with body odor, who had maybe never given a massage before... There was no hole in the table for my face, so he rolled up towels to put under my forehead and chin. This made it so that it was very difficult to breath, so I had to tilt my head to the side in order to get any air. Not comfortable. Especially when his stomach was pushing my head into the table while he massaged my back. The only good part was that my friend and I hysterically laughed on the way home recounting just how horrible the experience was for both of us... more

I didn't even go or get a service there and I am so turned off by this place!!! I simply called to inquire about purchasing gift certificates for my office staff (i am a physician and professionalism is a priority in my workplace)...the girl at the reception desk, Alyssa, was so rude and unprofessional that I decided to go elsewhere for the gifts. I would NEVER send anyone I know or recommend this day spa, a place that is supposed to emulate relaxation and rejuvenation. I see from reading the reviews that the snobby attitude of the staff is a common theme...and I'm so glad I didn't get someone a gift for a dirty, unpleasant experience!! I would have been so embarrassed...should have read the reviews before I even called. I thought it would be nice to get gift cards in the town where people live, but I will get them instead at my favorite day spa in Providence instead - they deserve the business much more anyway! I have been a customer of Elans for many years. What keeps me going is the quality of the work and attentiveness of the staff. They are eager to please and have tremendous talent. I have received compliments on my hair over and over, and as result, have referred many clients to Elans. They too are also quite satisfied with their results. My nails have never looked better. Lots of compliments there too. Resonably priced Pros: variation of services, staff, professionalism Cons: none more

Run, don't walk, away from this place, especially the spa area. Toilet had a ring; wastepaper basket overflowing; fruit flies on the walls; rugs filthy; Jacuzzi tub in one room was covered in stains from rusty water; ragged bath towels; hand towels faded blue with large bleach stains, overhead light sockets with bare bulbs and no coverings and on and on. I had an "orange blossom" wrap, which was nothing more than being smeared with a gritty lotion that I was told had ingredients from India and so forth. Then I was covered with an aluminum-backed blanket that I suspected had covered many others and never washed. This morning I have rashes under my armpits. I'm about to contact the RI Department of Health. Staff is okay but there are no reading materials when a customer waits. Furniture is ratty looking. All in all, this place should close. With this being my first visit, I had high expectations, especially since this "spa" has been in business for several years. Today, I am asking myself, why???? The receptionist ignored me when I walked in and took a few minutes to pick up her head and acknowledge me. Not that I expected her to be dressed appropriately, but a hoodie and jeans??...totally inappropriate. I had booked an appt. for a facial and a brow wax. Having never been there before you would think the esthetician would ask me about my skin type or any kind of question about what my skin was like and what kind of facial would be the best for me....nothing. She just started putting things on my face without speaking or telling me what she was putting on. The salon was filthy! I was the first client of the morning, the bathroom trash was overflowing, the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks and the overall salon had a strange musty odor. The hydrating mist that was applied to my face smelled like dirty water, the towels smelled and did not seem clean and the overall products that were used on me had no nice smell at all. I have had several facials in my life and this was horrendous. She didn't reccommend products to use, or anything to buy (not that I would have), but overall it seemed like they could have cared less about my business. I will not be returning. I went for a couples massage. I have had 2 previous massages at other places. To begin, the location is difficult to get to. After calling the salon 4 times for help with directions and being put on hold each time with no response, I finally reached someone to help me get to the salon. This caused the appointment to start late, leaving time for about a 30 minute massage, versus the hour I had scheduled. Seeing that the massage itself was not relaxing at all, I didn't mind only getting a half hour service. I didn't mind until they proceeded to charge me for the full hour, claiming that the masseurs were ready on time. So, it's my fault that you didn't have your phones manned with someone who could help your client who was in the vicinity on time? They were completely unhelpful and rude, including the manager who conceded to only give me a 15% discount on the full hour price. Aside from the management, the masseurs didn't ask us a single question when we arrived. They didn't have any medical forms for us to fill out or even ask if there were areas we would like them to concentrate on. At one point my masseur even used an electric machine. I could used an electric massage machine at my home for free! I felt as though the masseur just wanted to get the whole thing over with and didn't care about me or my experience at alI. I even love it when my friends give me a back rub but I actually was eager for the entire experience to end. I will never go back there. my husband gave me and my sister-in law a gift certificate to the elan in Cranston. We got pedicures, manicures and facials! Kara and Linda were our nail techs and they were the most professional nail techs and made us feel so comfortable and we had such a great time in the pedicure room! We would highly reccommend them to any of our friends! We can't wait to come back! Pros: nail techs, personalities , and services Cons: none ! more

the girl who did my eyebrow wax had no idea what i was in for, she didn't talk to me at all, and she didn't ask me about allergies, which led to her using a lotion that gave me a rash. needless to say, i shall not be returning. Pros: ample parking Cons: some unfriendly staff more

Booked a "Day of Pleasure" for my fiancee's birthday. I gave it to her slightly before her birthday so that she could be prepared, and she wanted to make a couple of substitutions. I went back to the spa, discussed the substitutions, watched while the arrangements were made, and paid the difference. Come the big day and she was so excited to be going for a day of pampering. It wasn't to be. First of all the masseur who did her "whole body massage" apparently didn't consider the lower back to be part of the whole body. Hmmmmm. Then it was time for her facial, and they denied all knowledge of the upgrade that I had paid for. Worse still nobody there that day was even qualified to do it (microdermabrasion). She was left alone in a room for 20 minutes while they discussed it, and at this point I had to take time out of work to get involved. There was no manager available for me to talk to (she left for the day at 2pm - it must be nice to work a 5 hour day then walk out leaving nobody in charge for the next 6 hours) and the girl on reception was hostile and unhelpful. Eventually my fiancee walked out in tears. Way to ruin someone's big day! I wouldn't trust these idiots with a lemonade stand, nevermind an alleged spa. There should be an option for zero stars. I've never been one of those women who's had a regular stylist, until now. Everyone who works here is really kind and helpful, never snooty. I've had so many compliments on my hair. In addition to hi-lighting and cutting, Nikki's the first person who's ever been able to blow-dry my hair "the right way"... I highly encourage you to try this salon if you're looking for something different and special! You'll be happy you did! Nikki will make you look AND feel BEAUTIFUL! I recently went to Elan Cranston for a full day of beauty. It was amazing. This place has a fun upbeat atmosphere and a staff that catered to my every need. The lunch was great too!!! My favorite part was the massage and hair cut. My hair looks amazing!!!!! Friendly Fun place to be... i cant wait to come back!!! I would reccomend this place to ANYONE!!! more

I totally agree with the others on this board about what a terrible spa this is. I went there with 2 friends and we all organized a day of beauty for ourselves (mani/pedi, facial, massage, hair). One would think that the staff would appreciate the amount of time and money we were spending at this place. In a word, awful. The manicurist and pedicurist did not even speak to me, not even polite small talk. They talked to each other and ignored us. The front desk staff never smiled and had an obvious terrible attitude. We felt completely uncomfortable for the several hours we spent there. And, they could barely accommodate our services, although we had made appropriate appointments. We spent a lot of time waiting in between services, and it was not even busy!! I am not just disappointed with this place, I am downright mad that I wasted my time and money on such an unprofessional establishment. Please, stay away. Pros: None Cons: RUDE more

Oh what a hellish day my friends and I had today. We went into the salon to get pampered and got anything but that...it was awful!! The service was rude and snobby, the owner is sooooooooooo rude and obnoxious and the service plain and simple suck....the staff member who worked on me didnt even use gloves to give me a facial, how gross is that?? EWWWWWWWWWW Email me if you want to know more about this disguusting unsanitary place. Looks are deceiving!!! more
