Best

Reading some of the reviews, I wonder what they consider as great food? Comparing the food here to Denny's is, frankly, absurd. Marston's food is utterly superb.. great pancakes...

Worst

Be prepared to wait, not only for parking but for getting a seat. The food was just generic. OK...but not great. The place is SMALL and comfy, so don't be spilling out your gut...

Low Key, Relaxing, Great for a Girls Day out.. 11/30/2008

I have been to Marston's twice in the last 5 months. The first time was with a group of nine people on a Friday for Lunch. We had reservations, and were seated upon arrival. All of us were happy with our selections and the service was great. The Second time was on a Saturday afternoon with a friend. I had the French toast which was amazing and my friend had the an Omelet (Denver). This is a great place for a quick lunch with a few girlfriends. Not the best place for large groups. Pros: Outside seating, variety on the menu Cons: Little crowed, more

Horrible Pancakes 4/25/2008

I have never had such a terrible interpretation of pancakes?ever. Really, they were so thin that they were closer to a crepe and they were also gummy and undercooked. I could not eat them. My boyfriend had an omelet that did not impress him at all. The texture was weird for an omelet, like it had been scrambled overly much in the pan before going on to its life as an omelet. It had an identity crisis. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Alarmingly bad pancakes more

Great Breakfast Place 4/1/2008

This hole in the wall restaurant is one of my favorite breakfast places. It is a great spot for anyone who enjoys a good breakfast such as a tall glass of orange juice, eggs cooked to perfection, or ?grandma?s oatmeal? that is to die for. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. The only setback is that the restaurant is small so the earlier you get there the better. With their variety of choices and home style ambiance you will feel like you are enjoying breakfast right in your own home! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff Cons: Crowded more

Great food 12/30/2007

Reading some of the reviews, I wonder what they consider as great food? Comparing the food here to Denny's is, frankly, absurd. Marston's food is utterly superb.. great pancakes, great sausages. Their service has been spotty over the years, although it's improved recently, the wait is long, and their prices are inflated, but I can't disagree more with people who say their food is mediocre. For those with the ability to discern good food, I would highly recommend this place. I can't vouch for their service, though. Pros: Food Cons: Parking, wait for seating more

yummy pancakes! 8/10/2007

the blueberry pancakes are a must! they're thin, tasty, and they give you plenty to fill you up. we also tried the french toast which i would also recommend. it has a nice crunchy texture because it's covered in corn flakes. everything was great there, food, service, and ambience. the one thing that i wouldn't recommend are their omelletes. more

Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner 11/20/2006

When there's no wait, Marston's is a delightful place to dine at - rather it be their generously portioned breakfasts (I can never quite finish that omelet or the stack of big pancakes), their delicious lunches (my favorite is the Pasadena salad with chicken, avocado and candied pecans mixed right in with fresh greens) or their more elegant dinners. Pros: good food, good prices Cons: can have a long wait time, very limited parking more

Horrible service and overpriced food 8/22/2006

they act like they are doing you a favor. we waited and waited and waited and when I finally got the waitress attention she brought the manager over to dress me down ""is there a problem here?"" yes I said we have been waiting a long (unreasonable) time for our food and she snapped back ""well it takes awhile!!!"" 30 minutes for eggs? no silverwear? no water? no refills no coffee? Pros: used to be a good place Cons: noo parking. horrible service. bland food. very overpriced more

great restaurant 5/10/2006

I demand really good food at a restaurant and that is what I get at Marston's. The menu is so perfect it is difficult to chose--french toast, a fabulous salad, etc. Sometimes very crowded because of the great food, cute restaurant, great service. Pros: food is wonderful, good service, very attractive more

Long wait for overpriced food 10/29/2005

The wait was excessively long for a cramped table to eat mediocre food. Might as well and stay home and cook yourself. Cons: Long wait, Cramped tables, Mediocre food more

worst service ever 10/12/2005

We were the 3rd table got seated at the lunch time on 10/13/05. We couldn't get any service for about 20 minutes while everyone else who were seated much later got their food. Make matter worse, they totally forgot about our order and waited for another 30 minutes to get our food. It seems like we were the only one who got no services, food & no apology. The food is decent but will I go back to get mistreated? NEVER AGAIN! Cons: bad service, long wait more

Denny's is even better... 10/3/2005

I had their famous French Toast for breakfast, as it's overly deep fried so it's almost hard to bite on it. It's so bland that it's way over priced! I also ordered Denver omlet as I can get a much better one from Denny's as the egg was overcooked & dried. I mentioned the same thing on their survay card. This's for sure a place I won't go back for as well I'll ask all of my friends NOT to waste their time & $$$ there. more

Little known gem for dinner 9/19/2005

Although Marston's is known for breakfast, the restaurant also serves a fine dinner. The food is always thoughtfully prepared and unfussy. Ingredients are always fresh and the service is friendly. It is a wonderful antidote to loud, noisy, hyper-trendy, overpriced, dime-a-dozen restaurants found throughout the L.A. area. The bottom line is that you get good food, well-prepared, served in a comfortable space - criteria that I apply to any restaurant where I will return. Pros: Good food, Relaxing atmosphere, Friendly service Cons: Can be pricey more

$2.49 at Trader Joe's or $17 at Marston's 8/24/2005

I took my friend to Marston's for her birthday. Neither of us had ever been. She ordered their chicken linquine, which had a nice scoop of goat cheese on top. It was halfway decent. I ordered their chicken dumplings with squash and mushrooms in a soy ginger sauce. I thought, ""This sounds exciting."" However, the chicken dumplings are identical in appearance, smell, and taste to the frozen chicken sold at Trader Joe's. Not only that, but I only got six of these dumplings. The Trader Joe's serving size is nine. Luckily, my special lady friend had linguine to spare (which, as mentioned, was halfway decent). I would have starved without that linguine. The soy ginger sauce was too sweet, and nothing special. I don't plan on ever going back. There are many better choices in Pasadena at half the price. Pros: location, ample parking, not busy Cons: below-average food, slow service, disappointing more

Janelle is Friendly and the Food is Great 8/7/2005

I have often eaten at Marston's and found Janelle, the waitress who is most often there, to be delightful and friendly. She always checks on how we are doing and makes sure everything is hot and tasty. The dinner at Marston's does have a limited menu, but I find everything on it, from the Cordiera Salad to the Mac and Cheese with Smoked Chicken, to be quite good. The home made chocolate sauce for the Brownie Sundae is to die for. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, unlike a lot of the pretentious ""Hollywood"" places out west. Pros: Service, Food Cons: Limited Menu more

Never again! 6/21/2005

This restaurant is so overrated. There are very long waiting lines, few tables inside, a very limited menu, and prices less than commensurate with the quality of the meal. Our entrees arrived 35 minutes after we were seated, the waitress was extremely rude, and the restaurant itself was extremely loud. At least four customers were overhead complaining about the service and the food; in three cases, their meals were ""on the house."" Definitely not worth the time, energy, or money. more

cute and tasty! 6/1/2005

i've brought several of my friends there and they all loved it! we've tried breakfast, we're tried lunch, now i have have to go back and try their dinner =) more

It's worth trying. 5/7/2005

Food was alright, not extraordinarily good. I ordered a vegetarian omlette which was piping hot and pretty tasty. I've watied for 20 mins. to get a table, as expected. Service was fine in general. Pros: easy parking, reasonable prices, good service more

Try dinner 3/24/2005

I've only been here for dinner--it's very delicious. Dinner is served Wed-Sat only. It's comfort food--chicken, fish, pasta, mac and cheese, etc. Before the meal, fresh warm bread came with herbed butter. The menu changes seasonally; I had wild mushroom risotto with asparagus, spinach with slices of fresh buffalo mozzarella. It was absolutely amazing--perfect consistency, light (tomato based, not cream based), and the veggies were fresh and crisp. My friend had wild mushroom/ricotta ravioli which were equally as delicious. For dessert, we had a brownie with ice cream; melted chocolate came in its own little carafe. Incredibly rich and warm, and not too sweet. All portions were perfectly sized--no super-sized platters here. Pros: Easy parking, Intimate ambience, food more

Awful in every way 3/3/2005

Never again will I schlep to Pasadena for this overrated grease fest. The famous French toast is like eating petrified fish sticks with syrup. The omelet almost slid off my plate from the grease. Bacon, room, and coffee were all cold; service was mediocre. Wait staff, saying, TAHDAH! when refilling my beverage doesnt make me forget that its been sitting empty for ten minutes. Martsons, your 15 minutes are up. Pros: Far from home Cons: Overpriced, Overrated, overpraised more

yummy 2/24/2005

This place is really good. Cute little restaurant. You have to try their french toast and blueberry pancakes!! more
