Always Good Service For Me 7/13/2011

NEW Purchases 4 stars because they are not great discounters on retail items - probably because of contractual obligations with Apple. There have been a few times I've been looking for NOS (new old stock) on Apple products that were being phased out for newer versions, and they had them, but after tax there just wasn't enough savings for me as compared with an online retailer. It's a shame because I would much prefer to keep it local. That said, MacDocs is competitive with the Apple store, and for that reason worth giving consideration for purchase if you're planning to get something at the A store. SERVICE/REPAIR - Five Stars It is here where I've experienced the best of MacDocs (that is now called ""Simply Mac""- a company that bought MacDocs). First of all, you can call in and get some feedback from the service department. For me it's an hour drive, so lugging my Mac down there can be a pain - especially in my gas guzzler truck, and when your Mac is getting older it becomes questionable as to if it's justified to put in a repair vs replace, and it's nice to use the service dept as a sounding board for a ballpark diagnosis and cost of repair. That said, taking it in is the only way to get a true diagnosis, so what you hope it might be (minor), vs what it may actually be (major), is a reality check you should keep in the back of your mind. You just don't know until you know. So, the $64k question is, are they honest and timely: my experience every time has been quite good. And, the service dept in general is more accessible, and more interactive with your questions than I found the one time I took a macbook pro to the Apple store for a warranty repair on a CD rom drive. I had other questions about some issues I was unsure of as user, or repair issues, and the A store failed to appreciate that I did not want to continually leave my machine off there, or that I wanted to make multiple 2hr round trips (min of 4 hrs for drop off/pick-up). Mac Docs on the other hand has been very responsive to a litany of inquiries - willing to give you honest feedback, without forcing a drive down there. I saw some folks on this review page who had bad experiences, like the guy with one key, or the flickering screen. and one guy said the building was a dump. As for the ladder, that's absurd: www.simplymac(DOT)com/locations/downtown-ut .They've got off-street parking, it's clean, and nice inside - a professional setting, and I feel secure leaving my Mac off down there. Don't hold them accountable for a few neighboring buildings that may be rundown. When it comes to computers there are so many things that happen to them - so many variables that can make them seem okay one moment then bad the next, it's to be expected that from time-to-time a repair may not be 100% the first go-around. It's happened to me and Macdocs handled it honorably. What else can you ask for? more

Almost didn't go to them 5/4/2011

Apple recommended I come here for my hard drive replacement but these reviews made me think twice about it. I did eventually go in and I got my computer back the same day completely repaired with all my data! I can see why people avoid it though, the building is a dump and it's a sketchy neighborhood to be taking your expensive computer. more

Fantastic Service 5/4/2011

I'm shocked at some of these reviews I'm reading. I've been coming to MacDocs for all my service for many years now, and have never had an issue. I can see that most of these reviews are bitter people who didn't get their way when they tried to bully a small business. You people are what is wrong with America! As to the employees at MacDocs, they have always been helpful, especially when I have to call them with a dumb question. They are patient and have repaired my computer on multiple occasions, even going as far as helping me get a free replacement from Apple directly when my laptop was giving me trouble. I and many others will miss them dearly. more

Avoid this place like the plague!!!! 4/12/2011

WASTE OF TIME to go here! I had a broken key on my new MBP and Apple told me to go to an authorized repair center for a new key. I called Mac Docs and asked them if they could do the replacement for me. Bryce, in the service department, assured me he had the key and to come on down. I took time off of work and drove down there for the replacement. I was met by Tyson at the counter (no other customers in the store...... now I see why) and he took the MBP back to Bryce for the repair. Two minutes later Tyson comes out and says ""all fixed"". I look at the key, type a few words, and the key FALLS off!! It was the SAME broken key!!! I told Tyson it was still broken and still the same key! Tyson tells me they don't have the key and would have to replace the entire keyboard and would have to order it from Apple Inc.! So I asked him ""WHY WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE THE KEY WHEN YOU DO NOT!!!"" He just stared at me with a dumb look and said he couldn't help me! Are you freaking kidding me???? My next call was to EXPERCOM in Sandy..... I called them right there from Mac Docs parking lot..... Eric answered and said ""sure, we have the key, come on down! I got to EXPERCOM and Eric popped the new key on and sent me on my way. EXPERCOM is awesome service and values their customers!!!! Thanks Eric for saving my day! SHAME ON YOU Mac Docs for lying to me, wasting an hour of my time and for treating your customers poorly! Next time I need service it is EXPERCOM all the way!!!!!!! more

They Know Their Stuff! 2/2/2011

I have had a lot of experience with Mac Docs over the last 6 or 7 years. They are the reason I am now a loyal Mac fan. I have both purchased and had my stuff fixed there. It's nice to go to a chill environment with personal attention. I've never had a negative experience as a Mac Docs customer and highly recommend them for all your Apple needs. more

The Best Apple Specialist! 1/31/2011

Mac Docs is the only reliable apple specialist store in the whole state of UT. Every time I have been into the store they have been kind and extremely helpful. Even when I have called on the phone with issues with my apple products or with any questions they are very knowledgeable and friendly. more

Excellent service for 4 years 1/2/2011

Stay Clear Of These Banditos 12/17/2010

I built a website for a client recently. When she went to set up her email account she had some problems with getting it to work. I checked all the settings on our hosting side and all the configuration settings and everything tested fine. That told me the problem was on her side and she needed help from someone to configure her imap email account. Well, she ended up with the guys at MacDoc who were supposed to help her configure things. Instead Alex strung her along for four weeks, told her our platform was unstable (which it isn't - no problems in the five years I have been using them and they are rated in the Top 5 hosting companies), and never tried to make her email work, even though I had provided him all the settings. Alex called me several times, always snotty and condescending, to try and get information about servers and MX records and I finally figured out that they were trying to switch her account rather than fix it. The last time they called called I challenged them on it and they immediately hung up and got the client on the phone. I pointed out to my client that they were not dealing straight and I had caught them in three lies that day alone. Too late...... the bad guys had her convinced to move her account. Man, was I pissed off! So, rather than help her with her existing account by simply calling me to check the settings, they left her hanging for weeks on end and converted her to their account which I am sure paid them a small commission. What a slimy group to work with. Untruthful, deceitful, condescending, arrogant, unethical. Do yourself a favor and stay well away from these bad boys. more

Great Service!!! 10/26/2010

I have had a number wonderful experiences at Mac Docs, I was given a gift of an I-Pad and was having trouble configuring the device to my Dell even through it wasn't an Apple computer they spent a hour trying to correct the issue. Finally we solved the problem and they were great in helping me. I call ed today to inquire about the possibility of printing from an I-Pad was was informed that there are some third party program that might work but more importantly they told me in Nov. there will be an update to the I-Pad operating system that will allow printing. They have been great!!! more

Misleading and unpleasant 9/4/2009

I called the main Apple support number seeking a warranty replacement for a clearly defective RAM chip. Apple kindly called MacDocs for me, and the tech at MacDocs said that I could bring the RAM down there and swap it for new memory on the spot. When I got there (25 minute drive), they refused to swap me RAM despite my documented call with Apple. They insisted that I leave my MacBook there for 4-5 days so they could troubleshoot and replace parts as needed. I suspect that they wanted to be able to charge Apple for service in addition to parts. Additionally, they were very smug and unapologetic about their misleading telephone info... I wasted about an hour driving to and from this place. Blah. They were blatantly dishonest and unpleasant. Pros: Thre are probably some I am unaware of Cons: Smug employees, and dishonest regarding service more
