I have a thing for cured meats. OK, pretty much any meats. So I have wanted to go for dinner at Laurelhurst Market for eons. Sight unseen, I convinced 3 girlfriends to meet me for dinner after work.
When I arrived, one of my girlfriends was there and had been directed to the bar. I found out later this was because (the hostess said) we could not be seated until our whole party arrived. (Where am I, Apizza Scholls?) We ordered drinks at the bar, and there were only 2 other tables full in the restaurant, not sure why she refused to seat us?
The bartender was kind enough but used a jigger to pour and since I like martinis I downed 3 of the worlds smallest cocktails, and our 4th gal pal still had not arrived.
The restaurant was still not too busy, but we were starving, so I asked the hostess if we could be seated.
She hesitantly agreed, and said we should close out our bar tab. (Yeah, I asked, it can't be transfered to the table).
Then came the absolutely amazing food. Chacutarie plate had 5-6 different meats to try, grilled romaine salad with romanesco sauce was perfection, mussels and fries were top notch, as were bites from my friend's plates, the salmon and brisket. Couldn't imagine better executed food.
But the service! They took away our appetizer plates and forks 3-4 times, even when we protested that they were still being used.
Please, Laurelhurst Market, find a front of the house that is worthy of this excellent food!!!
Pros: amazing food, nice space
Cons: bartender uses a jigger, hostess plans world domination
