Charming, Intimate Wine Bar Done Right 3/31/2010

On the same grounds housing Rathbun's on Krog Street, Krog Bar is a small, stand alone, shed-like baby wine bar with space for about thirty folks at a time. The sexy and intimate space's wine list is filled with several Spanish and Italian selections both by the bottle and the glass. The wine list reads well for the novice as well as the oenophile while the can't miss Mediterranean-inspired small plates are properly paired with the grape selections. Score a date and begin or end the evening at Krog Bar as a near fail-proof conversation and drinks option. Pros: Romantic, Classy, and Discerning Cons: It's tiny space only allows a small crowd more

i felt ripped off 2/27/2008

ok, i have been waiting for a place like this for a long time, and i was planning on spending some money on a nice evening for my anniversary. my wife and i chose krog bar based on an article in ""creative loafing"", but we were soo disappointed. the menu was overpriced, but i understand based on the location and atmosphere, it just makes the sting burn more because i dropped about $100 on poor service and quality. the server forgot 3 items that we ordered and gave us two items that we did not order. we spent $40 on a bottle of wine that came to the table with a screw cap and reminded me of something i picked up at a gas station for a frat party. the food was at best mediocre, the so called grilled artichokes were nothing more than some warmed over canned choke hearts. so our evening was kind of ruined and we left with a bad taste in our mouths. i emailed both of the head chefs via the krog bar website with my complaints and neither one of them ever replied. so, i will never go back nor will i ever recommend anyone to visit this establishment. these guys have too nice of a restaurant, too nice of a location, too nice of a menu, and too expensive prices to treat me like they did. avoid them like the plague! Pros: nice menu, nice ambience Cons: terrible quality and service, chefs with more passion for $ than food more

Truly Excellent 11/20/2007

Had a wonderful date here a few weeks ago. You can't help but languish over the food and wine , not to mention the conversation. This is a wonderful addition to Inman Park. It definitely feels like some of the bars and restaurants in Europe. Pros: Cozy, romantic atmosphere, amazing wine list, attentive but relaxed service, great food more

The perfect outdoor happy hour 11/14/2007

This little patio is the best thing going in Inman Park. I used to live one block away and loved sitting out on the patio and enjoy a little wine and tapas. The service is relaxed and friendly. more

Coziest Place in Town 9/20/2007

This is a chic little place tastefully docorated with a breezy patio. This the best place to have relaxed conversation with a friend. It's not loud but yet it has a good atmosphere. Small plates are delicious and the Wine list has a great European selection. If you want to have good conversation over glass wine and still get a city feeling, this is definitely the place to go. Pros: Great Service, Not Loud, Great Place for Conversation, Good Selection of Wine, Great Small Plates more

so lucky to have this gem in the neighborhood 7/18/2007

they've got a good wine list, the food is always tasty, and the atmosphere relaxing. i can't stop eating the chicken liver pate after it hits the table and there's a great selection of cured meats and cheeses. the wine list is easy to read and i think it's all european. lots of wines by the glass. this is my favorite spot to wind down and chat it up with friends. more

Kevin's Personal Wine & Tapas Bar! Cozy Neighborhood Vibe! 5/6/2007

Without a doubt, Kevin Rathbun has got to be one of the nicest, most personal chef/owners in the city. And judging by the crowds, everyone agress. A couple of years back, we went to Rathbun's early on, and Kevin came and sat with us at our table, to make sure everyone was fine. And his lovely wife was the hostess at the time. We knew this was the beginning of something great. Last night we had reservations again, but decided to go next door to his Krog Bar, have a glass of wine, and wait on our table. What a great cozy little space, with just a couple of dozen seats. We started talking with some residents of Inman Park. That led to another glass of wine, and to a seat. Before we knew it, we were hooked. We just dug into the tasty Tapas menu, and cancelled our reservations next door. Starting with the velvety Chicken Liver Pate and Crusty Bread. And we just ordered chesse plates, Grilled Artichokes w/lime and mint, White Anchovies w/Lemon, and tried several varities from a great wine list. Could we ask for more, yes! The Pistachio Gelato was better than Paolo's, if that could be possible. Kevin is the man/host, and we are looking forward to his Kevin Rathbun Steak later this month. What a guy! Pros: Great Wine List, Tapa & Host! Cons: A Little Pricy, but Worth Every Penny! more

European ambiance! 11/9/2006

Delicious, simple, yet rich tapas. Service is excellent. When I wasn't happy with my wine choice during one visit, the server asked me a few questions about my tastes, and then brought three other wines back for me to taste and select again. Not to sound snotty, but we always bring our visiting NYC friends there to show them Atlanta is not some back-woods hole. Pros: Food, servic Cons: Need more seating more

Loved the wine list and the atmosphere! 9/4/2006

The only thing they need to do is make another one to accomodate the crowd. I love the wine descriptions on list that allow a novice to pick what they will like. The food is a little expensive for what you get but I think they're improving the portions. It is a great place to stop off before a night on the town for a glass and a bite. I'll be back again and again and again. Pros: Loved the wine list Cons: The food is a little expensive more

Tasty deserts but terrible coffee to wash them down 8/27/2006

Krogbar was o.k. I arrived around 11:30 for desert & coffee. The desert (almond biscotti & pistachio ice cream) was awesome, but the service was slow and coffee was terrible. The coffee, served from a stainless caraffe, was cold. Then, after requesting another cup, the freshly brewed coffee tasted awful. Youd think such a nice restaurant could get coffee right. Oh yeah, the waiter also never offered or brought water. A big no-no in my book. Pros: Deserts Cons: Service, coffee more

Good wine & nibbles! 8/15/2006

The atmosphere is cozy. There aren't many tables and I don't think they take reservations, but we were able to get seats during the middle of the week. The outside patio looked comfy. It's a nice place to have a bottle of wine, a few nibbles and carry on a conversation. We loved it!!! We tried the following: grilled artichokes with lime & mint vinagrette; Krog St. mozzerella with chili oil and sea salt; soppressata; daily tremezzino (pork sholder, pesto goat cheese); and the pistachio gelato. The portions were small, but not in a bad way as it's ""tapas"" - they are tasty nibbles that (especially) when paired with their fresh crusty bread was more than enough. We got a wide assortment and shared. The wine list was good too. For those who aren't very familiar with wines, you'll love it - there's a note on the side that explains what type it is so choosing is simple. We'll become regulars after last nite!! Staff was great! We went on a rainy day - the complimentary valet is a nice touch. Pros: atmosphere, food, wine Cons: small area and seating might be a problem on a busy nite more

Lushious! 4/9/2006

I have been to Krog Bar twice, most recently last night. The service is amazing, intelligent and educational, the menu offers just the right tastes to complement the libations, and the crowd is interesting and pleasant. The interior is great, although we are talking about a very small place. I can only hope that Krog Bar for one reason or another isn't for everyone, so there is always a seat for me. Pros: great food, yummy wine, amazing service Cons: smallish more
