Very Nice, but not Secluded 6/12/2005

I recently went here with my boyfriend. There is valet service right outside the door (like many places in the area). We didn't make reservations, but only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated on a Friday night (and the place was pretty busy too). Our waiter checked in often enough but was not over-powering. We absolutely loved the sushi, we ordered about 4 different types of sushi and 2 rolls, everything was wonderful! I'm not a tea drinker but enjoyed a sip of the mango-infused tea my boyfriend was drinking. The only negative to the experience was that it was not very intimate due to noisiness and sitting very closely to the couple next to us. But, overall it was a great dining experience! Pros: Great food, Valet, Chic crowd Cons: Noisy more

Austin Sushi??? 5/10/2005

Where do you find good sushi in Austin? Not Kenichi. Over-priced and barely average. Slightly above average for Austin but the HIGH Dollar makes it not worth it. more

Bar Good - Sushi Very Bad 5/9/2005

I hope that the celebs going here are just going for the drinks and the crowd! The sushi appeared to be pre-made and the waiter never ever came back to check on us. We had to get the bus boy to run our credit card. I might go there again to have a drink at the bar as the crowd was more or less ""hip"", but I wouldn't eat anything again. We made reservations via the web and got seated very quickly, so that was good. Pros: "hip" crowd, Strong Drinks Cons: bad sushi, bad service more

THE BEST BY FAR IN AUSTIN!! 4/14/2005

I am a huge sushi fan, and Kenichi has it all. From the bar scene, the service, to the actual food and atmoshpere, it rocks!! My experience at this restaurant was one worth writing a review for. I am a frequent Austin visitor and nothing has yet compared to Kenichi in terms of overall awesome restaurants. Always a hip, fun crowd and incredible food!! Def. worth checking out! more

Best Sushi Around 4/14/2005

I am a big fan of Kenichi Aspen so last time I was in Austin I thought I would check it out. Everything about my experience was amazing. The food was excellent, I especially loved the Black Cod. The staff was friendly from the bartender (very hip bar scene) to the sushi chef that created some beautiful and delicious dishes for us. Every bit as great as the Aspen location, and I look forward to going back next time I am in Austin. Pros: Atmosphere, Food , Service more

Wrong attitude for a restaurant 1/8/2005

Very unprofessional and uncaring people work here. We were very very angry to have to wait a very very long time for our order while the chef was laughing it up and drinking at the bar. Our waiter (glasses and goatee) just avoided us. I had to get up and go to the bar to get another drink (thats when I ran into the chef). Bad vibe and bad attitude were persistent here. When I got my bill, I was overcharged and the waiter snuck in a service charge in small print. Cons: , Bad Attitude, Unprofessional more

this is not japanese food 11/9/2004

As a true Japanese, I have to warn everyone about this place. If you want to enjoy a trendy atmosphere, it is fine, but do not expect anything else. The food is not even close to authentic. The presentation of the food is horrible. (Please don't serve any sushi if you can't correctly roll a salmon roll) Everything is extremely overpriced. The waitstaff is snobby, and the employees do not seem friendly. You can't even greet a Japanese customer the right way? There is no Japanese warmth in the restaurant. The bathroom doors do not have appropriate signs. Pros: atmosphere more

Sadly, I agree... 8/29/2004

After reading many of the negative reviews, I sadly have to agree. The food and service have noticeably slipped. We didn't get the attention we usually have received in the past (too many new faces). The steak was over cooked and the eel sushi came to our table cold. Our server just dropped off the food and then took off. Its saving grace is that it still has an interesting club-like scene, (but not like it used to be). For what it cost to be there though, just pop in for a drink to check out the place, but skip eating there. One time is enough. Pros: bar scene, great spot, pretty new manager Cons: , service/attitude, new management? more

WHAT HAS HAPPENED? 7/22/2004

Oh Kenichi! What did you do? Once you were my favorite place. The crowds are gone. Your employees are griping. Your bar is near empty. You have more sushi chefs than customers at the sushi bar. Hey! These are signs that things are not right. You guys are not #1 anymore, so my advice is that you lose the attitude. Everything from the cocky bartender, the unconcerned hostess, and the total absence of service is driving away business. At least it did mine. The next night, we went to Uchi. more

It's OK 7/5/2004

Food was OK. Sushi was not as good. Service was really bad. Price is too high for what you get. The restaurant is beautiful. Overall experience wasn't worth the waiting and the cost. Better places for sushi and to be "seen," if that is what you are into. more

Not worth it. 6/30/2004

My friends and I just happened to walk by and saw the huge Kenichi projection across the street and decided to check it out. The place was kind of empty for a Friday night at 9pm. The bar section had perhaps five customers and maybe half the tables were occupied. It still took awhile to get seated though. Service was slow and unattentive too. My friend asked for salt and pepper for her salad and was rudely told that at Japanese restaurants they use soy sauce and wasabi for such purposes. Have you ever put that on a tossed green salad?! Very stupid and rude. Sushi was not good. Food was average. Teriyaki chicken was the best dish our group had. No one seemed to care how we were doing. We are all lawyers and used to expensive entertaining, but even we found the place to be too expensive. Pros: Trendy layout, Teriyaki chicken, Projection sign Cons: , Lazy servers, Dull hostess more
