Not worth it. 6/30/2004

My friends and I just happened to walk by and saw the huge Kenichi projection across the street and decided to check it out. The place was kind of empty for a Friday night at 9pm. The bar section had perhaps five customers and maybe half the tables were occupied. It still took awhile to get seated though. Service was slow and unattentive too. My friend asked for salt and pepper for her salad and was rudely told that at Japanese restaurants they use soy sauce and wasabi for such purposes. Have you ever put that on a tossed green salad?! Very stupid and rude. Sushi was not good. Food was average. Teriyaki chicken was the best dish our group had. No one seemed to care how we were doing. We are all lawyers and used to expensive entertaining, but even we found the place to be too expensive. Pros: Trendy layout, Teriyaki chicken, Projection sign Cons: , Lazy servers, Dull hostess more

Not what it used to be 5/19/2004

I have to write this comment because the citysearch review makes it up to be ""the scene."" It was. But it is no longer like it used to be. Sadly so. One must understand that the high prices ""trendy"" restaurants charge is partly due to the ""experience package"" it offers. You're not just paying for nutrition and flavor. The place used to be hip and exciting. It was truly an experience. As much as the new management tries, which is a sad sight in itself because you shouldn't have to try, it comes up lame. Sad jokers hang out here these days. Pros: had a good run more

Not What We Had Expected 5/10/2004

My friends and I were truly dissappointed. The food was good, but the attitude that came with it really brought it down. The waiter should appreciate the menu (AND his customers). He rolled his eyes and looked around when being asked questions. Heavan forbid, don't ask about the Teriyaki dish. He gets upset! (It is not as pricey as other items.) Actually, he starts off his introduction by putting it down. Order the wrong thing (don't spend enough) and you get an attitude and ignored! My boyfriend has been there a couple times before moving last December, and was excited about eating there. I doubt we will go back. Pros: Look Nice, Food is good Cons: , Attitude more

HORRIBLE 3/14/2004

Horrible! Just horrible! Snotty Hostess. Arrogant and uppity waiters. Service was third rate. The sauce on my dish was sloshed all over the place with a big fat thumb print in the plate! I was given a dirty fork. Water glass was always empty. I left very angry. Cons: , Expensive more

NOT VERY PLEASED 2/28/2004

to start with, the hostess was not very polite. i made reservations for 8:15, but we were not seated for about 20 minutes or more after that. we were told we had to wait for our entire party to arrive, and then they said that the table wasn't ready yet. whatever the reason, it was annoying. the server was not very prompt either, nor was she very friendly. the food was very expensive and there was not much of it. i had the sika deer, wich was good but ridiculously small. the sushi was not all that imperssive, although it looked pretty. the overall atmosphere was rather pretentious. Cons: , overpriced, bad service more

All Hype, No Substance 2/25/2004

""Where's the beef?"" sounds inappropriate to say in a sushi house, but if you've been there, you will understand. The food is ok. The service is nonexistent. The atmosphere is is cliche. And for this, you will pay the highest prices in town without so much as a thank you! My steak was overcooked. The sushi looked like it was tossed on the platter and the unagi was COLD. My cocktail, which was ordered prior to my meal, arrived about the time my food was served. I had to go find a waiter for help. The person who took my order, I never saw again. Unhappy, with my order, I wanted to order something else, and am told that they are closed! On the way out, I ask to see a manager, and guess what, the manager could not be found!!! Very costly learning experience. Pros: Valet service Cons: , OVERPRICED, They don't care more

Small pieces, Big prices 2/9/2004

The food is good but the place is expensive and the pieces are small. I guess they have to pay downtown rent but they charge for everything. I ordered a ""bourbon rocks"" and my bill had a $.50 charge for ice on top of the $9 bourbon. Lots of pretty people... more

I would recommend this place. 12/21/2003

Great food and service. They offer a lot of very good selections other than sushi. I had the sushi special for the night to start and then had the prime NY strip and really enjoyed it. It was sliced with some spicy butter sauce. It was probably the best steak I have ever had. My friend had the steamed salmon entree and she really liked it too. Pros: Food, Service, Place is beautiful Cons: It will cost you, Kind of a bar scene more
