Alex is the greatest 12/12/2006

I initially went to the James Joseph Salon, which I really liked, but when a scheduling conflict arose with my stylist I switched to the Studio. My appointment was with Alex, and I was so pleased I've been going there ever since. She does an amazing job with the color - I literally get stopped by strangers to ask if it's my natural color, and, if not, where I get my hair done. Also, I have really long, thick hair, and she is able to thin it out in a way that doesn't leave it looking choppy or stringy, but makes it much easier to manage. Since she's been styling my hair I have been able to cut at least 15 minutes off my drying time. She also is really easy to get along with and talk to - I've recommended a couple of friends go see her, and they all love her too! Pros: Great atmosphere, staff and results Cons: A little pricey, but definitely worth it more

Awesome Stylist and Salon 12/8/2006

I use to salon hop all the time, but not since I've been to James Joseph. Derek has been my stylist for a couple of months now, and I love him! I am a very picky person and if, I think he's great, then he must be really good at what he does. He's a perfectionist so you know that your hair is in good hands. He's very professional and knows what he's doing. Most of the time, I'm not sure what I want to do with my hair, but Derek always gives me wonderful suggestions, and that's what I love about him. He is able to do exactly what you want. Take my advice and go for a free consultation with Derek. Derek knows beauty. I love having a dependable salon to go to. James Joseph is such a friendly environment. Everybody is extremely nice there. No more salon and stylist hunting for me! This is it! Pros: Wonderful service more

BEWARE-Please listen to negative reviews, I didn't and wish I had 12/3/2006

Tried this salon based on positive reviews and now regret it. Very unexperienced stylists. Worst haircut ever, I asked that it be kept long and absolutley no layers. I left with layers and one side is visibly shorter than the other, very choppy. It looks like I went to Super Cuts. I can go on but I think I've made my point. Cons: Chop Shop more

Michael Joseph is the best! 12/1/2006

I moved up to Boston from NYC three years ago and was afraid I wouldn't be able to find a good stylist here given past experience. I stumbled upon JJ salon and Michael Joseph and have not gone anywhere else since then. I have stick straight hair, which is hard to mess up, but easy to leave just blah and that has never been the case there. Michael gives me what I want to perfection every time. He's taken me from super long, layered hair to full bangs and back - he's amazing. Pros: Open Sundays, great stylists Cons: Expensive parking in the garage more

Loved the haircut, unhappy with the color 11/30/2006

I had been going to JJS for about a year and had truly fantastic haircuts. Really, I never got so many compliments on my hair ever. I loved my stylist as she was funny, smart, and a magician with my hair. I decided to try her out for color. I am fairly certain I said I liked my hair ""light"" but what I ended up with was a dark brown that looked greenish in the light. I was so bummed that I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. I didn't have the heart to tell my stylist that I was totally disappointed. I would still recommend them for the best haircuts ever. Pros: Friendly and upbeat staff Cons: Parking more

painful experience 11/29/2006

i had high expectations based on all the great reviews, but was slightly disappointed. everything went well, but, it was just... painful. when she was cutting my hair, she kept pulling on it and burning my head. i asked for it to be short, which she did, but kept layering it and layering it withouth asking if i liked it that way. it turned out to be fine, but it wasn't exactly what i was expecting. i was also surprised by the lack of friendliness from my stylist. overall, my experience here was decent, but not amazing. The Best Hair Salon! 11/16/2006

I went for the first time to see Emily, what a life saver :) My previous salon on Boylston completely fried my hair and really didn't care what they were doing as long as they got my money. Emily spoke with me in her chair for 20 minutes to really see what I want... how we can give me a new style and work with the breakage without having to cut off all my hair. I am very happy, and will definately come visit her again. more

After recently moving to Ma I was super nervous to find a new stylist. After hearing all the fantastic things about JJS I made an appointment. I was unable to see Aicha or Darlene who had been recommended to me bc of my schedule so I went to who had an opening. I must say that my cut turned out amazing, he did a fabulous job. My color on the other hand was a far cry from what I wanted. I thought I had made it clear that I wanted my hair to look natural; obviously it came out way to funky for my taste. My stylist was so sweet and I am so shy that I couldn't bring myself to mention it. Overall I liked the salon and everyone who worked there was very sweet. I will probably try the salon again and just be more cautious about my color. Pros: staff, price, ambience more

I think the intentions are good here, but be careful. I suppose if your'e concerned with price, what you get here is ok. But if you want people who have valuable experience, consider some other salon. I found the stylists here average at best. Nothing impressive to speak of. Very young and severly lacking direction. more
