I finnaly found the hairdresser of my dreams! Her name is CHRISTINA. When I first called for appointment at James Joseph Studio I was a little skeptical because I didn't know who was going to do my hair. The receptionist was a great help and she made me feel very confident about my appointment with Christina. When I arrived at the salon for my appoitment Christina was not only on time, she was ready to answer all my question and she gave me great tips in how to style my long hair. My color never looked so good!...NO MORE STRIPES. My hair cut finnally makes sense. I can't express how happy I am to find to find her!!! Overall, I was treated very well by the staff. Stylist took his time -- Best Haircut Ever! 1/3/2006

I recently transferred schools and moved to Boston. I had no clue where to look for a quality, reasonable haircut, but I heard a few good things about the James Joseph Studio and decided to try it. I saw Leo there, and he took over a full hour perfecting my hair, and actually listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions, never doing anything without telling or asking me first. Although went a little bit over, his dedication to perfection completely made up for it, and I was amazed with the result! I have been back two other times, and the staff is always the best!! Best salon for haircuts - see Emily 1/2/2006

I've been seeing Emily for a couple years now, and she's always been attentive to my desire not to have an "Asian haircut." I don't ever think I've gotten as many compliments on my hair as I did on my last haircut, which I absolutely love. In general the regular salon has a better atmosphere than the studio, which is basically a typical hair salon, but I'd follow Emily anywhere. more

A typical Newbury St. Chop Shop 12/6/2005

I went for two haircut and color treatments. I only went to the 2nd b/c I was suckered in by a discount on 1st by making the 2nd appointment, felt guilty about cancelling it. The haircut I was given was eerily similar to the stylists, which didn't suit me and wasn't at all close to what I wanted. The coloring was atrociously mousey and streaky. When I complained I was told it might be the lights. Rd.2, i asked for a trim and had to yelp out to stop her from cutting bangs. This was in between her chatting with her boyfriend. I did end up with real short layers and the worst haricut I've had since my 3rd grade bowl cut ala mom. The coloring only got worse, being super light & i got charged for a two process treatment, which I am fairly certain I did not get. Pros: Thursday night drinks, Funky atmosphere Cons: Ignore requests, expensive more

Average 12/4/2005

I went there this past weekend for the first time. I agree with other posters-its average. A single process/hghlight cost me $300.00 with no tip-thats not a haircut either. I thought I was clear on what I wanted but it didnt come out the way I wanted. I would rather not say the stylist because she was a doll but I think she just didnt get what I wanted and I was there over 4 hours. I will not be returning more

Great value on Newbury Street 11/17/2005

I just moved to Boston from Houston, and while I love the city and all it has to offer, the overall sticker shock of life here is going to take awhile to wear off. I was especially nervous when I knew I needed a haircut - it could have been a major financial setback! I was so happy after Emily at James Joseph Studio was recommended to me and I found out I would still be able to pay rent after getting my haircut! I have curly hair which has posed problems in the past - you really need to find someone who knows what they are doing, and Emily is that person. I've been a customer of James Joseph Salon for 2 years. I wasn't looking too hot before I discovered this salon. Their stylists receive intense training. They do not employ just anyone, it's very selective. In turn the customer receives the "best haircut of their life" every time. It always gets better. I challenge anyone to find a better cut from a better staff with more class and a friendlier nature then the folks at James Joseph. William is a fantastic owner, he stands behind his work and his stylists 100%. Lindsey's been my stylist since day one and she has made me feel beautiful. They're extremely honest and never pushy. They're not out to only make money, they want to make you feel beautiful and confident when you walk out the door. Like I said before, if you want the best, look no further. Finally! A Great Salon! 11/2/2005

I was looking for a great salon in Boston and a friend recommended James Joseph and Rudina. I can't thank her enough! Rudina is not only a very skilled hair stylist and colorist, but also extremely friendly, as is the rest of the staff. She listened to my hair concerns, made some suggestions of her own, and I came out completely satisfied! The price can be on the expensive side, but is well worth it for me. Rudina also made it a point to recommend a shampoo/conditioner to use and offered her services for a free deep conditioning any time I needed it. I can't recommend this salon enough! Typical Newbury St. factory 11/2/2005

I got one ok haircut there, one mediocre one, and two absolute butcher jobs. I am so sick of not being listened to. I did not want wispy, scraggly hair with the ends flipping up. That is all I ever got, with too many layers and too much texturizing and feathering. Yet, you tell them that and they don't listen. The last cut I got the top was about 2 inches long! I've been growing it out for 3 months now. Do these hairdressers really learn anything in hair school? Pros: Wella SP products Cons: everything else more

I have been a client of hers for over five years now, and she always knows exactly what I want, even when I don't! (If she ever leaves town, I'm going, too!) She gives great advice and is a great listener. She always knows the latest styles. I have recommended her to all of my family and friends, and I always overhear them raving about her...but nobody ever gives ME credit for finding her!!! New to Boston 10/20/2005

I recently moved to Boston from NYC and was in need of a great stylist, someone who is creative with short men's hair. I found James Joseph Salon on CitySearch and was able to get a same day appointment. I had George and he listened to what I wanted in a style, made some recommendations and I walked out of there with one of the best hair cuts I've ever had. George was extremely welcoming and I will absolutely be back. more
