The best investment on myself 5/5/2005

When I started working out at this gym two months ago, I couldn't do one push-up. I have never been athletic in my life, and I hoped these workout sessions would help relieve me of back pains, stress and trouble in sleeping. To my shock, now I can do 30 push-ups, in addition to being able to sleep like a baby. At this pace, I think I can enlist myself in the marines in the near future! The instructors -- sifu Steve, Gillian and Ian -- are wonderfully attentive and encouraging. (They kick your butt without making you feel bad about yourself...) This is by far the best investment I have made on myself. Pros: Great instructors, Small classes, Good facilities Cons: Only one shower... more

Hey you! Looking for a Killer workout? 2/27/2004

Training at NYKK is a holistic expirience. When you leave your Body, Mind and Spirit feel a sense of accomplishment doing things that you never tought you were capable of. The selection of programs availible to gymgoers is extensive from boxing, kickboxing, kung fu, and cardio, hitting bags/focus mitts to sparing, whatever your goal is there is a program for you. The staff is top knotch always availiable and willing to assist you in reaching your objective. I've worked out at several weight lifting gyms and none of them have matched the results which I have achieved. If you are looking for an exciting and complete workout without the hassle of long lines for machines then this is the place for you. Hope to see you soon. Pros: Dedicated Staff, energetic environment, Great people more

Amazing Place 2/22/2004

I love this gym, and I have never had a better experience with working out in my life. Yes, this is run by the owners, but when is that a bad quality? They are attentive, work hard, and know everyone by name and skill level, a rarity in this world. They also provide such a range of activities and services, and work to help everyone achieve their individual goals. I feel a part of the NYKK family, and they have helped me to achieve my goals patiently, time and time again. Pros: Workouts, Attentive Staff more

NYKK 2/22/2004

This is easily the best gym I have belonged to and by far the most comprehensive exercise program I expect to undertake. After a 3 month trial, I have extended my membership for 10 months and probably have no intention of leaving as long as I live in NYC. Can't speak highly enough of the staff or the facilities. Pros: Professional, Challenging, Friendly more

Wonderful place to work out 2/22/2004

This is a small personal gym. The staff knows every member. This is as close to personal training as you can get at a gym price. Staff works closely with every member, there is always someone willing to work with you and help you. Because it is such a member focused place, it is a place for the highly fit and for those who need to get into shape. The attached health facility is a great place for traditional medicine (get your flu shot here) and has a fabulous staff of holistic and alternative practitioners. Most of the members are wonderful and supportive. Agressive members are asked to leave and their money returned. It is a small gym and the dressing rooms get crowded before and after class. Pros: attentive staff, personal attention, small class size more

one word - AWESOME!!!!!! 2/22/2004

I have had many gym memberships thoughout the years and none compare to this. A combination of Fitness, Health awareness, Self defense, and Intructors that acutally care about you and your needs. I have never felt this good about myself ever since I joined (two years ago to be exact) and it's only getting better. I would highly recommend this Gym to everyone. PS I even met the woman I am going to marry here! Pros: Personal Training, Flexable Hours, Caring Environment more

Make some contact 2/21/2004

I have trained with Sifu Ventura for about 8 years in Lama Kung Fu and Kick Boxing.I love the no frills energy of the classes. The gym is a small old school type training gym which can get sweaty and funky but this adds to the adrenalin of the work outs. Sifu trys to train everyone as if they were going to be compeating in the ring and moulds every one according to their individual strengths or weaknesses. Training here you will get a few scrapes and bruises but be prepared for any confrontation. And if you want to take it a step further you can join the team and fight in well organized tournaments around the US. Pros: Friendly class spirit, Plenty of classes, Hard work out Cons: , Sometimes crowded more

Great gym 2/21/2004

I did another martial arts for 4 years before I joined this gym and I can't tell you what a relief it is. There are no cliques and attitudes here. Only problems I've seen are when people come here with a bad attitude, arrogance, or a chip on their shoulder. Teachers make it VERY CLEAR that this is not acceptable and will ask you to leave. THANK GOD! In other gyms, rowdy students are allowed to stay, making the workout experience unpleasant. Here, I get attention, encouragement and support. And it's fun! Pros: Lots of classes, Central location, Good atmosphere Cons: , Can get crowded more
