Best

There is a reason this place has been open forever... it is really that good. Hut's is one of my favorite burger spots in austin ever. It gets a little crowded but that is to be e...

Worst

I wasn't impressed. I'm from Dallas and was hoping for an awesome burger. I got the double, one pattie was done the second was medium rare. Not how I like to eat hamburger meat...

Not impressed at all. Why an Austin favorite???? 4/13/2007

My husband and I ate here a few months ago. We were pretty new to Austin and just came upon Hut's. We eat burgers very often and were excited to try a new place. The burgers here were NOT GOOD. I am usually fair about restaurants and criticizing their food, but I could get a better burger anywhere else. Our burgers were below average, very dry. The shakes are pretty good, but that is hard to mess up. We later learned that this place won Austin's favorite burger one year, and we shocked. Granted, the place is very ""Austin-y"" and has pretty good service, I would not return here willingly. Pros: cool restaurant feel, pretty good service, fast Cons: burgers! more

Lives up to the hype for the most part 2/6/2007

Took the kids here and it was a good choice. Friendly service, nice selection of burgers. Fries were pretty good and the burgers were HUGE. No need for the double if you're an average Joe. Tasty fries but the onion rings were still raw (not fried long enough). The batter wasn't that hot either. All of our burgers were very good though. We will return for sure. Pros: Great burgers, service Cons: Canned mushrooms more

Like a Crutch-Reputation is All There Is 1/31/2007

Burgers ok at best. They get a good crowd that must not care about the food. Pros: Cheap Food Cons: Not Great Food-Crowded (not in a good a way) more

Doesn't live up to the hype 1/30/2007

My wife loves this place, but I still don't get it, even after going multiple times. The burgers aren't really anything special, and despite all of the different ""specialty"" burgers, most of the condiments are your typical burger additions...pickles, mustard, onions, mushrooms, chili, etc. As much as I love burgers, I've found myself ordering other items from the menu (like catfish), which also aren't anything special. For a better burger, try somewhere like Freddie's, or heck, your own backyard. more

The BEST Veggie Burgers 12/6/2006

You've got to try the Alan Freed burger (with a substituted veggie patty of course)!! It's a mess, just covered in bbq sauce. Plus on wed. you get 2 for the price of one. Two burgers for less than $5? Can't beat that with a stick! more

2 for 1 wednesdays!! 10/20/2006

Hut's should be number one on that poll. Crowded, noisy, big messy burgers. They put anything on a burger and make it taste great! The onion rings are large enough to fit around your arm! Pros: burgers Cons: tight space more

yummy stuff 10/2/2006

Hut's is great! If you are a person who likes the taste of meat in all it's natural glory, eat here. The burgers are thick, and the toppings are heaped on. They have 20 different combos on the menu and will alter anything to your liking. The $5 dollar shake is perfect for sharing. Pros: good food, fast and friendly service Cons: parking can be a hassle more

What is all the hype? 9/22/2006

I've lived in Austin all my life and eaten at almost every burger place and this is hands down the WORST. It tastes like a cheap, greasy burger from Dairy Queen. There is nothing about this place that is worth the wait. Cons: Everything more

Average and overrated 9/3/2006

I am new to the area from Houston, and on a whim, my husband and I decided to try Hut's. The location is cool, and the inside is very diner-like. I can see why it is so popular, but we were not impressed with the burgers. The fries were cold and soggy too. I have had many better burgers at many other places before. We were hungry, and it was a cool place to go and get a quick bite to eat, but I wouldn't ever wait in line to eat there. I don't know if Austin just has different tastes than Houston burger places, but Hut's was nothing special at all. more

Best darn Buffalo burger this side of the Mississippi! 7/11/2006

Ye- haw!!!!! Austin Texas has a legend in the heart of its metropolis - Hut's Hamburgers! I tell you what! This little place is hoppin' like a grasshopper in a field full of hefers! They have a mouth waterin' buffalo burger that will temp the bellies of any ol' hungry mouth! And with a side a fries that'll fill a waterin' trough! If you haven't tried Hut's you are missing out! Pros: Buffalo Burgers!!! more

Good Burgers, But... 1/20/2006

I don't understand the raves. True, the burgers are very good. They come hot and juicy. But anyone that says that these burgers are any better than Fuddruckers is dreaming. Take a Fuddruckers restaurant, take away 70% of the floorspace, cram people in by the elbow, put a U.T. cap on everyone, and you've got a Hut's. Also, the hot fudge used on their ice cream is kind of weird. It comes lukewarm and has a strange gummy texture. The giant honking onion rings are nothing special. Pros: hot, juicy burgers Cons: crowded, poor parking, loud more

Great Burgers 11/25/2005

Hut's has a burger for everyone. The restaurant is in a great location and is a good spot to go for lunch. You can't beat the prices for the size portions you receive. Pros: Great Food, Cheap, Cool Ambience Cons: Sometimes Crowded more

burgers 11/23/2005

Is Hut's the only hamburger joint in Austin? No. But it might as well be. Fantastic burgers, great sides, all reasonably prices. Very consistent here. PROS: flavor CONS: none more

Best burgers in town 11/11/2005

The menu here isn't extensive, but the wide variety of burgers are among the best you'll ever taste, and are also availble with chicken, vegetarian patties, and even buffalo meat. The waitstaff has always been friendly when I've visited. PROS: Best burgers around, reasonable prices. CONS: No free refills on soft drinks. more

Best Onion Rings! 8/21/2005

Hut's is so great!! The burgers are so good and filling! The onion rings are enormous! Fantastic is all I have to say! more

Excellent 6/1/2005

Hut's has the best burger in Austin. The atmosphere has a fun 50's/austin funky feel. Incredible! Try the onion rings, cherry coke, and milkshake! Pros: price, taste, quality Cons: parking more

An Austin Institution 10/27/2004

A must visit on any trip to Austin. Get a buffalo burger if they are not sold out. A longhorn beef burger is a good second choice. Rootbeer floats are yummy and the perfect accompaniment to your burger. Onion rings are exceptional (and HUGE), fries surprisingly are merely average. If your waistline can allow it, try one of Hut's ultra creamy made from real ice cream milkshakes. As good as any you will find anywhere in the entire USA, guaranteed! Pros: burgers, shakes, HUGE onion rings more

Waiter! 7/17/2004

Tried to have a Hut's burger for the first time, but the plan was foiled by bad service. The wait time was excellent, only a 2 minute wait. After noticing that parties after us were getting served first, we knew something was wrong. It got worse after our waiter asked us to refresh his memory. He went to check on the order and didn't inform us of the status. After a few minutes we decided to leave. An apology, explanation or letting us know what was wrong would of help. Avoiding the situation didn't help. more

Pretty darn good 5/27/2004

Super good onion rings. Tasty longhorn burger (they have buffalo too). Wife thought the vegi burger was so-so. Fries are not all that. Quaint little hole in the wall kinda place with very nice service. Pros: Nice greasy spoon, Onion Rings, Friendly folks Cons: , Fries, parking more

UM NOT QUITE... 5/10/2004

Dined in at Hut's a month ago and see no reason for the food to be rated this well. The meat in the burgers was bland. The service was terrible. Would not recommend this place to anyone, unless it was someone I didn't like. Pros: nostalgic 50's decor Cons: , the service more
