Hillcrest Automotive

Hillcrest Automotive prices are outrageous and I'm not sure how they stay in business. I took my car in for a noise in the steering, they tested it and said it needed a new hose. Said they could do the work for $375. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed it was the hose and did it for $250. The DEALERSHIP! which is known for much higher pricing. Paul's Automotive said the car needed a part (misdiagnosed) and was going to charge me less for the entire part than Hillcrest did for the hose alone. Hillcrest also wanted to charge me $700 to replace all brake pads and two rotors. Not happening. The people are nice, service is fine, but prices keep me away. more

I have used Hillcrest Automotive for years and they have always been honest, friendly, and good people. They have done repair and maintenance work for me, everything from fixing door handles to changing the oil and rotating the tires. I have never had a problem with the work they have done. If you want somebody you can believe when they tell you what is wrong with your vehicle and who will be honest and fair about what they charge, I recommend Hillcrest Automotive. I am very satisfied with Hillcrest Automotive. They take care of about 4 or 5 cars for my family and their service is excellent every time. They have done everything from routine maintenance requirements to minor repairs on brakes to electrical work on gauges and maintenance lights. Everything has turned out well. Approximately 6 months ago, I let Hillcrest Automotive repair the brakes on my vehicle. I paid $343.02 for the necessary work. This past weekend while driving around, I heard some loud noises coming from the rear of my vehicle. At the next traffic light, I was surprised to find that I had no brakes. Fortunately, no one was in front of me as a glided through the intersection. I got the car to the Goodyear dealership in Spanish Fort to look for the problem. They found that the brake work performed at Hillcrest Automotive was improperly performed which led to a complete failure of the brake system. They repaired the problem and charged me $256.93 to correct the issue that I thought had been repaired by Hillcrest Automotive. Earlier this week I took the original invoice, and the Goodyear invoice to Hillcrest automotive to see if they would make things right. The owner said that the brake work was performed too long ago and he also would not accept the word of the Goodyear dealer as to the cause of the problem. I have since learned that others have also been quoted high prices for routine work. One person was quoted almost $1500 for a brake problem that was corrected by another shop for less than $150. I am not trying to discourage anyone from using Hillcrest automotive, but I thought that it would be only fair to write out the facts and let you decide for yourself if you would trust them to perform work on your vehicle. more
