I used to avoid this store because of the attitudes, too. But, when it comes down to wanting something you can't find elsewhere, you go, expecting a bit of an ordeal. About a year ago, I was getting ready for a long camping trip and found that I needed to replace a broken tarp pole and didn't have time to order one online.\r

In I went, looking for the owner (the guy who is always behind the register). Check. His son who I remember being even more rude than his father. Nope - not there. Going downstairs I was surprised to see the same guy I saw the last time I was there - probably 5 years before. He pointed me straight to where the poles were. The first happy surprise - they were $10 cheaper than anywhere else. Went upstairs to pay for it and (again) expecting some rudeness, I got my second surprise. The owner actually made a bit of small talk as he rung me up. Nothing major - but a far cry from being rude.\r

I've since been back a few times and haven't encountered any kind of hostility from anyone in the store. And I don't see the son anymore so maybe that was the root cause of all the problems. Who knows? To sum it up, if you remember and liked the old Sunny Surplus before they shot themselves in the head by going preppy, you should check out this place. Upstairs is mostly packaged retail stuff, downstairs is a browser's dream.
