Best

My brother really likes his helper, Chuck. I think they do really okay by my brother...they come by twice a week and they take my brother for walks and Chuck is kind of a guardian...

Worst

Charles Hines and Sons was the worst company I have ever used for services for my child. I had to have them investigated by Centerpoint, and the investigation came out in my favor...

They help my brother 5/10/2009

My brother really likes his helper, Chuck. I think they do really okay by my brother...they come by twice a week and they take my brother for walks and Chuck is kind of a guardian, a former military guy, and seems to help my brother along okay. Sometimes he doesn't come because of inconsistent funding paperwork. There have been other helpers that just come and go...it's difficult to keep someone there when they don't pay any money at all. Pros: Get's my brother out of the group home Cons: Services come off and on because of lack of funding more

The Most Inept Agency in Forsyth County! 11/16/2008

Charles Hines and Sons was the worst company I have ever used for services for my child. I had to have them investigated by Centerpoint, and the investigation came out in my favor. The worker they sent (briefly) was wonderful. But the QMRP and her superiors were unbelievably unprofessional, and totally insensitive. This agency mailed appeal paperwork to the wrong place and then lied about it. They cost my child over a year of services! They have never even bothered to apologize or admit to their wrongdoing. When they terminated my child's services because they had asked for too many hours and were denied the hours, they informed me via a school secretary on the very same day that her services were terminated- no notice whatsoever!!! I am enraged at the fact that they can still be in business, and still employ this inept QMRP. In any other responsible agency, she would have been immediately terminated. They do not care about clients at all, only about money. They also failed to place my child on the CAP list, although they said the paperwork had been completed and they had sent it. When an investigation began, they suddenly were able to produce a copy of the paperwork. I would not feel this tremendous animosity that I have for the Charles Hines Agency, if they had ever bothered to express regret or attempt to make amends for their proven wrongdoing. They need to be put out of business immediately before they do the same thing to another family. A year without any services is totally unacceptable! Pros: The actual one-on-one worker was great. Cons: The entire professional staff!!! more

Good flexibility, great for part-time job 11/5/2008

I've worked for Charles Hines and Son for 4 years, mostly while I was also attending college so I could only devote evenings and some weekends to my clients. I was glad that they provided reasonable hours of paid training and accessibility to my case manager. My case manager changed once while I was there because my first manager was promoted. Both were professional and called me back in a timely manner if I ever needed to get ahold of them. The pay was great for part time work and the flexibility of hours was exactly what my life style demanded during college. My case manager was great because she really listened to my clients' parents. So it often felt as if I was communicating directly with the parents. I had a positive relationship with the clients' parents, which also made the experience enjoyable. Pros: flexibility of hours, meaningful experience, helping others, high need more

Fantastic team to work with! 10/23/2008

Human Services work is hard! The difficulty is usually with government mandates and restrictions. I work with a great DD team here. more

Charles Hines uses it's paraprofessionals as cheap labor and the clients are the ones hurt in the end. 7/3/2008

I agree with BobWayneSmith! Pros: Clients and their on hands staff (The Paraprofessionals) create great bonds and trust. Cons: Constant changes in Case Managers, 'down sizing' of the Paraprofessional staff and hour cuts made by the office staff cause clients to suffer and staff to leave. more

Horrible Company 3/15/2008

This company has to be the worst company in NC. I couldn't keep any help in my home because all of the staff that worked for me were underpaid, cheated and shifted from fulltime to parttime every week. They couldn't keep benefits and went on to find other jobs leaving me to care for my disabled daughter alone. I can't say I blame them because I would do the same if I was under appreciated. I asked for my staff to earn more money at least a dozen times by recommending them to their superiors but nothing came of it. They wouldn't even properly compensate my staff member money for drive time and they cheated him/her all the time in their pay checks. My staff member drove all over the place for a very inexpensive compensation. Since I have experienced so much trouble with this company I have switched companies and all of my staff that works with my daughter are more happy and better trained. Pros: The staff I had working for me and my daughter deserved better Cons: They don't pay staff well enough to keep them there more
