What i like to do once a month is to make an appointment with Roman, bring down my girls, then go shopping on Ellsworth and Walnut. It's a fun day for us all, unwinding, relaxing, and getting pampered. Roman is by far the best in the city at highlights. The only downside is that you have to book in advance to make an appointment. I've lived in Shadyside for five years and been to pretty much every salon at least once-- Roman at Capristo's is the best. No question. I have naturally curly hair that I straighten and Roman cuts it so it looks great either way, which is difficult. He's a lot of fun as well! He works very hard to make sure your cut/color is exactly what you are looking for. He'll walk through pictures of a ton of cuts and different colors to be sure you are on the same page. If you are looking for a new stylist, you havvve to try breanne. i decided to try her after 2 friends w/ amazing hair recommended her to me. i hadn't had my hair cut in over a year so it was in bad shape, and i went in knowing pretty much what it was i wanted. what i ended up w/ is exactly what i had in mind, which i feel like never happens. she wouldn't make any move unless she knew that she was interpreting what i said correctly, and anytime she knew i was thinking something, she made me tell her. she wanted to get it right. she was great. also gave good suggestions and was fun and easy to talk to. i've already told my roommate and coworkers about her. as long as i live in pittsburgh, i will never go to anyone else. I have been to many salons in the Burgh looking for the exact waxing service worth the high price. My search is over thanks to Shelly at Capristo. This girl is The Brazilian wax queen, I'm not even joking, she knows what's up down and all around. If you get waxed by Shelly be assuered your in good hands. Wow, how cool is Shelly at Capristo's. I have been waxing for years, but when my last girl moved out of town, I thought here I go again trying to find someone who can do a great Brazilian. Well I finally found her. Shelly is awesomely skilled and knowledgable when it comes to her trade, she is even better than my last girl, which I did'nt think could be possible. This wax is very pricey, a little higher than my last place, but worth paying for her skill level. Pros: skill and friendly Cons: expensive but worth it more

I just want to let everyone know that i had the best facial of my life outside of the super, super expensive LA /NYC circuit. They have the sweetest European lady that really knows what she's doing. Lydia waxes, does nails, massages and facials. I swear to god this woman has healing hands. She is very spiritual, which allows her to put you into a trance like relaxation state. I LOVE IT!!! The Salon uses the Deanne(sp?) organic line which is well worth the extra money. If you are in desperate need of relaxation, go find Lydia. I would highly recommend Capristo for any services. Roman is a genius when it comes to hair. He was able to envision what I wanted for my highlights and I am ecstatic with the outcome. I would say that of all the times I have ever gotten my hair highlighted, he has been the best. He not only highlighted my hair perfectly, but he fixed the previous highlights that hadn't turned out well. I would highly, highly, highly recommend that if you want your hair highlighted, colored, or cut that you ask for Roman. He was also very attentive, kind and a good conversationalist. Go to Capristo. I also had a Brazilian wax done with Shelly. I must say that all of the wonderful comments were true. I had never had a Brazilian done and I was frightened that it would hurt. Shelly was professional and made me feel very comfortable. It was not painful because she is skilled at what she does. She was careful and also explained clearly what I needed to do in order to prevent anything after the wax. What you read about Shelly and Roman is true. They are both very attentive, professional and most important very skilled and gifted at what they do. I also had to get my nails done and wanted tips. They only offer Gel tips and they wanted 75.00 for them, I slurged but ended up calling to complain because after just 4 days they started falling off, they re did them for free, but still only lasted a few days. Not what you want to pay for such poor procedures. I reccomend Dean of Shadyside salon instead. Pros: location Cons: PRICES for poor service more

I wanted a brazilan wax for the longest time but I was so scared to do it. Finally after looking it up on the internet I came across Capristo and Shelly. So I scheduled my waxing and went there on a Friday morning. I signed the new client forms and read my after waxing care sheet. Then out came Shelly and she was so warm and inviting from the beginning. She took me back to this nice private quiet relaxing room and she told me what was going to happen. So as she was doing it and coaching me through, we were just having a normal conversation about kids, Pittsburgh drivers, and food. lol She was the best! Getting my tounge pierced was more uncomfortable! It didn't hurt at all! I didn't even need the cooling gel. I am going to schedule a follow up in about 4 weeks! So, i went back to Capristos to get a holiday manicure. I have formerly said how muched i loved it. But, the girl i got this time didn't file my nails smooth, the polish was chipped that night and sge hardly talked to me. Not living in Pittsburgh, and having read a number of reviews of body waxing from Shelly, I decided to stop by on my way from Ohio to Baltimore and get my first ever professional waxing job. Other users could not have been more accurate! Shelly was a pleasure to have work on me-- the waxing was not painful, she gave me lots of good tips to avoid ingrowns (I didn't get a single one!) and she was so quick! Furthermore, she was a pleasure to talk to and kept me entertained the entire visit. I usually get a manicure and pedicure monthly, "You know the $30 job, Whats the difference?". Anyway I thought maybe I would try something else. So the front desk scheduled me with this guy Marc. At first a little nervous to get my service by a guy, but none the less I was already there. Marc was very skilled and educated. By the time I was done this was by far the BEST services ever. NOW I CALLED TO SCHEDLUE MY NEXT APT. WITH MARC only TO FIND HIM NOT THERE ANYMORE, THE FRONT DESK RECCOMENDED MANDY IN HIS PLACE. TO START WITH, SHE SOAKED MY FEET FOR ABOUT 15 MIN THEN STARED WITH MY PEDICURE. HOWEVER, MY SERVICE WAS OVER WITHIN THE NEXT 35 MIN. THAT SUCKED! A while back I went here- my friends took me as a birthday gift to have my haircolor lightened. Despite my repeatedly saying that my hair was fine and therefore, fragile, the stylist let the bleach sit in my hair. He was busy with other people the entire time. His assistant kept telling him that I was done and that my hair was lising elasticity, but he didn't listen. By the time he washed the bleach out, I had to have 5 inches cut of my hair, it broke when he brushed it, so he sent me out with damp, pink, short, fried hair...and charged my friends a lot of cash. I was visiting Pittsburgh for only the night and was on my way to NYC. I only had a four hour window to find a suit and fit in a color and cut. I googled hair salons and found Capristo. It just so happened that Roman, the actual owner, was able to take me. Anyway amazing cut. No wait. And I am so happy I listen to Roman and went with the Highlights and not the full color.
