Made 8 very particular people extremely happy! 8/21/2006

Last night I had to scramble for a place to take 8 out of towners to dinner. One person was a vegetarian and two people hated fish - not an easy crowd. I wanted to take them to Beldon Place because it's such a cute area but most of the restaurants there are mostly seafood. I called at 6:30pm to make a reservation for 8:30 and they were able to accomodate us and when we arrived we were immediately seated. The food was incredible! Beyond delicious - a few people at the table said that it was the best meal they had ever eaten - and everyone was extremely impressed with everything on the table including the wine. This is the first review I've ever written - although I always check reviews on Citysearch - I actually felt compelled to write this and would recommend this place to anyone and everyone - has to be one of the best places in the city. more

Highly recommended 7/26/2006

My husband and I have been here a couple times and love everything about it. It is small, dark and romantic. It has wonderful home-made italian food. I didn't even pay attention to the price, I liked it so much. The desserts are excellent and same with the wine and port selections. Very busy place, make a reservation. They also have outside seating in the summer. more

Risotto to die for 7/24/2006

Cafe Tiramisu was a splendid lunch choice. Instead of a boring burger or tired salad I had black ink risotto with scallops. This was listed as an appetizer but was a perfect luncheon size. I ate alone and was treated royally. The dish was absolutely delicious and the menu offered so many other wonderful choices -- must try it for dinner someday. It was very busy and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Seemed to be a large business crowd. Cafe Tiramisu is on unique Belden Place, pedestrians only, with outdoor seating. A real find. Pros: Food!, ambiance more

It gets better and better at Cafe tiramisu. 4/10/2006

Over the years I have gone to Cafe Tiramisu with reservations or just dropping in. And always I just go with the flow and the end result fines me very happy that I came and dined at Cafe Tiramisu. It is my favorite Italian restaurant. more

No experience at all!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/26/2006

We made reservations for a party of four. When we arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, the host told us we were a bit too early. We were asked if we would like to dine outside in the very chilly weather (we declined...) At 7:20pm were were told, that they were running behind and we should go have a drink at Belden Traverna a few doors down. The hostess escorted us to Traverna and said she would come get us when a table was ready. At 8:15 the manager of Traverna told us that the host of Taramisu told him we should eat at Traverna, because they were not going to ever be able to seat us at Tiramisu. We gave up our notion of having a romantic dinner at Tiramisu and had dinner at Traverna . So ""no experience"" at Tiramisu"" Pros: good menu, nice atmosphere Cons: crowded, unorganized more

Great, Romantic Experience! 2/16/2006

The food was wonderful, and the outdoor patio setting was perfect. The great weather pattern helped tremendously. I enjoyed everything about the restaurant. It was one of my favorites while visiting the city. The drinks were stiff, and the food was fresh, and of high quality. Pros: Romantic Outdoor, Location, Food and Drinks Cons: A bit pricey more

Ok 11/27/2005

this restaurant im very sorry to say was not that great the food was good but the wator treated me and my ten year old like we were just a stick in a pile of diamonds. i say 4 out of 10. Pros: cozy restaurant, food Cons: service, wators, jammed more

Late lunch not worth it......... 11/4/2005

I went for a late lunch at aroung 2 p.m. It was a major disapointment...... it took over 10 minutes for a waiter to bring a menu. The menu sounds like a great Italian selection and I picked chicken with roasted potatos and some sauted greens. Chicken was burned and dry as a bone, flavorless but definately sized to feed at least 2 people. ""Roasted"" potatoes were deep fried, cold, and hard as a rock. The greens needed salt and pepper. The food was barely warmed but the plate was hot which only means one thing- it was sitting under the warm lamp for a very long time, considering that it took over 25 minutes to bring the plate to the table. The service was totaly indiferent. I ended up paying over $30 for crappy food and lousy service. Don't waste your time on money. Find another place to eat. Pros: Good location Cons: Poorely prepared food, Indiferent wait staff more

excellent food, great atmosphere 9/18/2005

Not a fan of the dessert called tiramisu, I was reluctant to try a restaurant with the same name. Thank goodness I did! Cafe Tiramisu had the best gnocci I've had in years. The service was top notch all around and the fig creme brulee was perfect. What a great place! Pros: great location, excellent food, friendly service more

Best Steak in SF 8/1/2005

I love this place! I take all my clients to dinner there. Its by far the best rip-eye in town. Not what you'd expect from an italian restaurant, but the Borrello wine sauce is to die for! The wine list goes on and on. And the staff --I've love them. Did I mention the deserts? They are all homemade every day. You'd be crazy to pass this place up! Pros: atmosphere, entertaining, excellent food more

Great place for a pricier lunch 7/5/2005

I headed over to this cafe today and I was pleasantly surprised. We waited for about 10-15 minutes and then were sat outside. It is a little tight, but it is in an ally with a bunch of other restaurants so I thought it was understandable. I had the crab/lobster ravioli and I thought it was absolutely delicious. The seafood was so fresh and the sauce was fantastic. My fiance had the caesar with crab meat on top, delicious! I really enjoyed the meal. Pros: Fresh Seafood, Outside Seating Cons: Wait on Nice days, Cramped Outside Seati, Pricey more

Average food, bad service, high price 5/26/2005

The service was really poor for the price that you pay. The seating was really tight outside, and I'm a small person. I was rubbing elbows with the people to the left and right of me. It was crowded and very noisy. The chicken I had was dry. Save your money and go to another restaurant. more

Mixed Thoughts 5/13/2005

I first came to the Cafe nearly 2 years ago during my first ever visit to San Francisco. I started with the steamed mussel appetizer, followed by the rack of lamb entree', finished with a desert sampler for the table (I recommend as you get a little serving of each of the desserts for about $8 per person.) The food was exceptional, service hospitable, and the setting was quite entertaining. We were seated in the wine cellar, although tiny and loud, it was an experience. My next visit was dissapointing. I again had the lamb entree' which seemed as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for the veal scallopini to arrive. My girlfriend ordered the Sea Bass, cold at first, sent back, only to arrive then overcooked. Our server was rude and unattentive. We left with a disspointing feeling nearly spending $150 for dinner for three. Pros: fairly priced more

A taste of Italy 11/21/2004

Just returned from Italy and went to Tiramisu. It was better than Tuscany. The porcini salad was fantastic. The mussels--yum. Although it was very crowded we never lacked for service. Would definitely return. Pros: service, food more

My partner Byron Hancock and I,have been going to dine at Tiramisu since shortly after their intial opening(late 80's early 90's!) We are always treated with kindness and respect, the owner Pino is an extreemly gracious man, who makes everyone feel welcome! His charm, wit, and professionalism is always refreshing! The food is always consistently good(and I am a vegeterian and difficult to please!) The atmosphere is charming, at times loud, but cozy, intimate, and clean! I would highly recommend Cafe Tiramisu, for a night of Southern European dining! If you have not yet experienced Cafe Tiramisu I would urge you to do so! Pros: Reasonably priced, consistently good!, Cozy atmosphere! Cons: , sometimes crowded, wait is at times long more

Good tiramisu, pricey food. 6/25/2004

This place is packed on a Friday night. But if you don't need to sit outside (it's too cold and too many birds flying around anyways), you can get a table quite easily. The food is not really worth the price ($15-$20 per entree), for the taste is not that special and the quantity not that plenty. The taste is to my liking, however. I ordered the gnocchi with fresh porcini mushroom. The gnocchi was too filling, but the sauce and mushroom was good. And the tiramisu was really good, in my opinion. I would come back again for the tiramisu, and try the other desserts. Besides the price, the tightness of the place was also a problem. We were literally 4 inches away from our neighbors, on each side. Perhaps on a not-so-busy night, the setting will be better. Pros: good tiramisu, nice atmosphere, fast service Cons: , tight space more

Great outdoor atmosphere 5/27/2004

Great little part of town to dine. The outdoor balcony is an excellent place to dine. The food is average and expensive. Waiters stand around and chat and hardly come to your table to check. If you are looking for a place to hang out then this would be it but don't expect to get your money's worth. Pros: atmosphere Cons: , crowded more

Great Italian in Belden Lane 5/19/2004

This place is so good. Get the black in risotto for an appetizer then move on in for the mixed seafood grill and finish it all of with the namesake dessert. Also, here's an insider tip: order the fresh strawberry port. It is out of this world Pros: Terrific Food, Fantastic Service, Wonderful Location Cons: Crowded Tables, Noisey more

the best in bay area! 1/29/2004

My friend took me to Cafe Tiramsu tonight, and I was blown away by the food, the ambiance, the value..... I am speechless... C.T. offers a great selection of food, and the flavoring is just perfect... it is obvious that the ingredients they use are very fresh.... there are over 20 main entrees to choose from,... I had the chilean sea bass sardina risotto, and it was heavenly..... for dessert, we had the sampler... to die for desserts are of course tiramsu, chocolate mousse, and the passion fruit sorbert... what really tipped me over is the great value... my chilean sea bass was $22, shrimp & artichoke salad appetizer was $11, and sampler dessert was $8.... food portion was not skimpy... the ambiance is lively, yet cozy the same time... the servers enjoy their jobs, and are very accomodating.... I high recommend this restaurant... Pros: value, selection, food/flavor/taste more
