Disappointing 11/2/2003

I have to say that I am usually a generous reviewer, but this was far and away a huge disappointment. The waiter was unbearably rude, the atmosphere was nice but didn't make up for the freezing outdoor seating, and there were no apologies when our order was forgotten in the kitchen. When our food did finally come, it was cold and overcooked. I've been a waitress and I can overlook a lot considering the behind-the-scenes dramas of the kitchen and staff, but when paying this much for a meal I at least expect to have problems acknowledged and apologies attempted. Even something as small as an offer of free coffee would have prompted me to give them another chance, but I have to say, try someplace else! There are lots of excellent restaurants next door, and this Belden Place bistro is hugely overrated! Pros: Diverse Menu Cons: Service, Quality, Poor Management more

Very Good 8/11/2003

Appetizers: Best mussels I've ever had in my life with a spicy tomato sauce. Pasta: My wife had pappardelle with fresh porcini outstanding. Steak: I had the rib eye steak. Mouth watering huge very lean. Eccellent Dessert: Sampler plate for two very generous portion enough for 4. We still finished it all. The waiter made very good suggestions. The service attentive. The only downfall is the tight tables and it is a little noisy but truely great food. These guys know what they are doing. Pros: food, service, desser, decor, wine list, selection of food Cons: small tables more

Consider another restaurants 8/5/2003

Summary of a recent dining experience: Reservation: Seated 45 minutes late (we had made reservations 2 days earlier) Atmosphere/Seating: Nice atmosphere. People-watching environment. Not much privacy. Extremely noisy. Service: Extremely poor. Our waiter was impatient, rude and slow. Not sure if he was just having a bad night, but it was unacceptable. Food: Gnocchis were a little tough. Chilean sea bass was overcooked (it should melt in your mouth). Dessserts were good. Overall: With so many wonderful restaurant in the City, you should probably avoid this one. With lackluster service and less-than-stunning entrees, you shouldn't have to pay for the abuse. Pros: Dessert Sampler Cons: Slow Service, Questionable Entrees, Parking more

Yum! 6/2/2003

Excellent food - try the sea bass, the rib eye and/or the flourless chocolate cake. Specials can miss the mark occasionally. The place gets incredibly packed and the waiters do the best they can. Great place on a nice day. Key is avoiding the lunch rush (12:30 to 2). more

Great Northern Italian cuisine 2/19/2003

One of the best restaurants downtown. Much better than neighboring and more popular restaurants, Plouf and Bastille. Great pseudo-European environment, huge winelist, and wonderfully delicious, constantly changing menu. more
